Krysta Rodriguez to Star in Broadway Production of Anthony McCarten’s “The Collaboration”

The 38-year-old Latina actress/singer and Broadway star and Erik Jensen will complete the cast of the upcoming Broadway production of Anthony McCarten’s The Collaboration starring the previously announced actors Paul Bettany and Jeremy Pope.

Krysta Rodriguez,The play, a hit in London, depicts the artistic collaboration of painters Andy Warhol (Bettany) and Jean-Michel Basquiat (Pope), will make its American premiere in a Manhattan Theatre Club production beginning previews on Tuesday, November 29 ahead of a Tuesday, December 20 opening at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre.

Rodriguez will play Basquiat’s girlfriend “Maya” and Jensen will portray “Bruno Bischofberger,” the art dealer and gallery owner who brings Warhol and Basquiat together. Kwame Kwei-Armah directs.

The casting announcement was made today by Manhattan Theatre Club, Lynne Meadow (Artistic Director) and Barry Grove (Executive Producer) and the Young Vic Theatre, Kwame Kwei-Armah (Artistic Director) and Lucy Davies (Executive Director) by special arrangement with Eleanor Lloyd Productions, Anthology Theatre, Stanley Buchthal, and Denis O’Sullivan.

Rodriguez’s previous Broadway credits include Spring Awakening, Into The Woods, Hercules, A Chorus Line and The Addams Family.

Miguel to Perform “Coco” Hit on ABC’s “The Disney Family Singalong: Volume II” Special

The 34-year-old half-Mexican American singer will take part in ABC’s The Disney Family Singalong: Volume II.

Miguel will perform “Remember Me,” the song he recorded for the soundtrack to the Dia de los Muertos-themed animated feature Coco.

Miguel’s version of the song appeared at the end of the film. He also performed a Spanish-English duet of the track with Natalia Lafourcade entitled “Recuérdame.”

“Remember Me” earned a Grammy nomination for Best Song Written for Visual Media.

Shakira, meantime, is set to perform “Try Everything” during the sing-along special. She recorded the Grammy-nominated song for Disney’s Zootopia.

The 43-year-old Colombian superstar voiced the character of Gazellein the film, and her character performed the track in the end credits.

Other artists recruited by Disney for the special, to be broadcast during the Mother’s Day, include Donald Glover, Halsey, Ben Platt and Chloe x Halle.

Audiences will be able to stream The Disney Family Singalong: Volume II on Disney+at a later, unconfirmed date.

The musical special plans to not just celebrate families, but nourish them too by raising awareness for Feeding America’s COVID-19 Response Fund, which supports people across the U.S. facing hunger amid the pandemic.

The first edition of the musical special saw big-time prime-time ratings, with 10.3 million viewers tuning in to Ariana Grande‘s spellbound “I Won’t Say I’m in Love” coverfrom Hercules, Beyoncé‘s surprise heartwarming rendition of “When You Wish Upon a Star“and more.

Ryan Seacrest returns as the host for The Disney Family Singalong: Volume II, which will air on Sunday, May 10, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. ET on ABC.

Jesse & Joy Honored at the ASCAP Film & Television Music Awards

Jesse & Joy have a new premio to add to their trophy case…

The Mexican pop group, comprised of the brother-sister tandem of Jesse Huerta and Joy Huerta, was honored by its peers Monday at ASCAP‘s 30th annual Film & Television Music Awards, which honor the composers behind the top films at the box office, the most-performed television music and the top video game music of 2014.

Jesse & Joy were honored for penning their single “Mi Tesoro,” which served as the theme song for the Mexican telenovela Qué Pobres Tan Ricos, starring Jaime Camil and Zuria Vega. The duo previously earned a Best Theme Novelero at the 2014 Premios Juventud.

But Jesse & Joy weren’t the only Latino honorees…

Enrique Iglesias and Descemer Bueno were also honored at the ASCAP Film & Television Music Awards.

The Spanish superstar and the Cuban singer were honored for Iglesias’ duet with Marco Antonio Solis, “El Perdedor,” which served as the opening theme to Mexican telenovela Lo que la vida me robó. It’s the fifth time that an Iglesias song was chosen as an opening theme of a telenovela after “Cosas del Amor“, “Nunca Te Olvidaré“, “Cuando Me Enamoro” and “Marisol.” The song was composed by Iglesias and Bueno.

Meanwhile, Gustavo Santaolalla was honored in the Top Box Office Films category. The legendary Argentine musician and film composer was honored for his work on the animated film The Book of Life.

Other Latino honorees in the film category include Brazilian composer Pedro Bromfman for his work on RoboCop, Brazilian composer Heitor Pereira for If I Stay, and Spanish composer Fernando Velázquez  for Hercules.

Diaz’s “Sex Tape” Hitting Theaters One Week Earlier

The 41-year-old half-Cuban American actress’ latest comedy Sex Tape had been slated to hit U.S. theaters on July 25, but Sony Pictures has moved up its release to July 18.

Sex Tape, co-starring Jason Segel, now avoids facing off against Paramount’s Hercules, Universal PicturesLucy and Lionsgate/Summit Entertainment’s Step Up All In.

Instead the film will go up against Universal’s The Purge: Anarchyand Warner Bros sci-fi film Jupiter Ascending.

Diaz and Segel star as young parents whose homemade sex video is accidentally synched to a handful of other devices (including her mother’s and the mailman’s), and they embark on a wild quest to retrieve them.

Rob Corddry, Ellie Kemper and Rob Lowe also star in Sex Tape, which was directed by Jake Kasdan.

Kate Angelo, Jason Segel and Nicholas Stoller penned the screenplay from a story by Angelo.
