Written and directed by Rock, the film tells the story of New York City comedian-turned-film star Andre Allen (Rock), whose unexpected encounter with a journalist forces him to confront both the career that made him famous and the life he left behind.

Dawson stars as Chelsea Brown, the journalist assigned to interview Allen.

Along with Rock and Dawson, the film also stars J.B. Smoove, Gabrielle Union, Tracy Morgan, Cedric the Entertainer, Kevin Hart, Jerry Seinfeld, Adam Sandler, Whoopi Goldberg, Sherri Shepherd and Romany Malco.

The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September and earned critical acclaim. Days later, Paramount confirmed it had acquired the film’s worldwide distribution rights for $12.5 million.

Louis C.K. Releases His Film Directorial Debut “Tomorrow Night”

Louis C.K. is offering his fans a blast from his filmmaking past…

The 46-year-old Mexican American comedian and actor has just released his feature film directorial debut Tomorrow Night online, some sixteen years after its Sundance Film Festival premiere.

Louis C.K., Tomorrow Night

Louis C.K. wrote and directed the black and white 16mm dark comedy, about a photo shop owner obsessed with ice cream, and took it to festivals back in 1998.

But according to C.K., distributors didn’t step up to the plate and the movie sat fading into obscurity in his storage locker.

That’s all changed now though…

Louis C.K. has made Tomorrow Night available for download for $5. The film stars comedians Robert Smigel, Chuck Sklar, Rick Shapiro, Heather Morgan, Nick Diapolo, and Joseph Dolphin and features a number of future comedy stars in small roles including Amy Poehler, J.B. Smoove, Steve Carell, Wanda Sykes, and Conan O’Brien.

Louis C.K. recently hit the promo circuit and stopped by The Daily Show with friend Jon Stewart, who lent Louis C.K. money to make the movie years ago as did Chris Rock, Denis Leary, Spike Feresten and Brett Butler.

He also notably put out his 2011 comedy special Live at the Beacon Theater on his own website for $5 a pop, trusting fans not to pirate it, and took in $1M with the self-release strategy.

In the comedy, which just saw its first trailer released, David portrays a heavily bearded marketing executive at a carmaker.

An argument with his boss leaves him unemployes, so he sells his shares in the company, just before its worth soars into the billions. A decade later, with a new identity and minus numerous hair follicles, he gets the chance to get even.

David co-wrote the film, which also stars Bill Hader, Curb and Seinfeld veteran Philip Baker Hall, Jon Hamm, Kate Hudson, Michael Keaton, Danny McBride, Amy Ryan and David’s Curb foil J.B. Smoove.

Clear History is set to premiere on HBO on August 10.
