Warner Bros. to Release Film Adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Musical “In The Heights” in June 2020

Lin-Manuel Miranda’s hit musical is reaching new height… on the big screen.

Warner Broshas set a release date for the feature adaptation of the 38-year-old Puerto Rican Broadway composer, lyricist, playwright and actor and Quiara Alegría HudesTony Award-winning musical In the Heights.

The film, directed by Jon M. Chu, will be released onJune 26, 2020.

No cast has been set yet, but Miranda is producing with the musical being adapted from Hudes’ script and Miranda’s music and lyrics.

A decade ago, Miranda starred in the four-Tony-winning Broadway musical in which he played a bodega owner in Washington Heights who strikes it rich and plans to leave, until the pull of the neighborhood and the people in it give him pause. Miranda followed that up by creating Hamilton.

June 26 is a prime date for In the Heights as the musical also takes place during the summer, with a positive emphasis on family and community.

The only other studio wide release scheduled on that date is an untitled Fox Marvel movie.

Chu has Warners’ upcoming Crazy Rich Asians coming out on August 15.

Guzman Appears in First Trailer for Universal Pictures’ “Jem And The Holograms”

The 27-year-old Mexican-American actor appears in the first trailer for Universal PicturesJem And The Holograms, the film adaptation of the popular animated series.

Guzman stars as Jem’s love interest Rio Pacheco in the film , which stars Aubrey Peeples as the iconic Jem character and her alter ego Jerrica Benson.

“I, Jerrica Benson, am living the most unexceptional life. … At some point we all wish we could become someone else,” states Peeples at the beginning of the clip.

Peeples stars as a kid who writes songs that no one outside of her family hears — until sister Kimber (Stefanie Scott) uploads a video that explodes on YouTube. Suddenly she and her three sisters are signed by “the biggest record company in the world” — and the hard life lessons begin.

Smarmy company honcho Erica (Juliette Lewis) first changes Jerrica’s name and then the way “Jem” and the group act, sound and look.

Jon M. Chu directs the film from a script by Ryan Landels. Aurora Perrineau and Hayley Kiyoko co-star in the pic based on Hasbro’s cult 1980s cartoon series.

Universal is set to release Jem on October 23.

Ryan Guzman’s name is Rio and he’ll be dancing on the big screen next October.

Universal Pictures has announced plans to release Jem and The Holograms, starring the 27-year-old half-Mexican American actor, on October 23, 2015.

The live-action film is based on the Hasbro animated series Jem, which ran from 1985 to 1988 in U.S. first-run syndication.

The music-driven film centers on music company owner Jerrica Benton, her singer alter-ego Jem, her band the Holograms, and their adventures.

Guzman will star as Rio Pacheco, Jerrica’s long-time childhood friend and boyfriend.

Jem and The Holograms is being directed by Jon M. Chu and also stars Aubrey Peeples, Stefanie Scott, Aurora Perrineau, Hayley Kiyoko, Juliette Lewis and Molly Ringwald.

Guzman to Star in the Baseball-Themed Film “That’s What I’m Talking About”

The 26-year-old half-Mexican American actor has signed on to star in director Richard Linklater’s baseball-themed film That’s What I’m Talking About.

Guzman will take on one of the lead roles in the 1980s-set film about a college freshman who moves into a fraternity-like baseball house with his hard-partying teammates.

Guzman, who starred in this summer’s Step Up All In, has the background for the part: He was a college pitcher before turning his attention to acting.

Additionally, offers are reportedly out for Glee’s Blake Jenner, Teen Wolf’s Tyler Hoechlin, and 22 Jump Street’s Wyatt Russell.

Guzman next stars opposite Jennifer Lopez in Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions’ thriller The Boy Next Door in early 2015. He’ll also portray Rio in the Jon M. Chu-directed Jem and The Holograms.

The 26-year-old half-Mexican American actor will star in the live-action film adaptation of the popular cartoon Jem and The Holograms.

Production is already underway in Los Angeles on the music-driven film, based on Hasbro’s 1980s animated series about a young woman who transforms into a pop star with the help of her best friends, and a pair of high-tech earrings.

Aubrey Peeples will star as Starlight Music owner/manager Jerrica Benton aka Jem, Stefanie Scott as Kimber, Aurora Perrineau as Shana and Hayley Kiyoko as Aja.

Guzman will portray Jem’s love interest Rio.

Jon M. Chu will direct the modern Jem for Universal Pictures.

The plot of the film will send online music sensation Jem and her Holograms on a musical adventure across Los Angeles.

Aside from the main Holograms band members, the supporting cast has yet to be revealed, including who will play Jem’s omnipresent AI fairy godmother/holographic computer Synergy.
