Garcia in Talks to Star in the Sci-Fi Adventure Film “Geostorm”

It may be the calm before the (geo)storm for Andy García.

The 58-year-old Cuban actor is in talks to join Gerard Butler in the sci-fi adventure feature Geostorm, which will be directed by Dean Devlin.

The film centers on a stubborn but charming satellite designer (portrayed by Butler) who, when the world’s climate-controlling satellites malfunction, has to work together with his estranged brother to save the world from a man-made storm of epic proportions. As the designer heads into space, the brother discovers a plot to assassinate the president.

Garcia is in negotiations to take the Oval Office as the president in Geostorm.

Other actors in talks to join the film include Jim Sturgess, Abbie Cornish and Ed Harris.

Warner Bros. and Skydance are behind the film, which is eyeing an October shoot in New Orleans.

The script was originally written by Devlin and was also worked on by Kieran and Michele Mulroney.

Garcia is currently appearing in theaters in 20th Century Fox’s Let’s Be Cops.

Garcia Signs with Creative Artists Agency (CAA)

Andy García has new representation.

The 58-year-old Cuban actor has signed on with one of Hollywood’s top talent agencies, Creative Artists Agency (CAA).

García had previously been repped for a long time by Paradigm, dating back to the days of The Untouchables, Godfather III, Black Rain, Internal Affairs and the Ocean’s Eleven films.

He’ll next be seen in Let’s Be Cops, and Kill The Messenger opposite Jeremy Renner.

He’s also percolating some projects that include Hemingway & Fuentes. He intends to direct the script he wrote with Hilary Hemingway, about her uncle Ernest Hemingway. The film is about how the writer befriended a boat captain, Gregorio Fuentes, who inspires him to write The Old Man and The Sea. Garcia intends to play Fuentes.

The 58-year-old Cuban actor has joined the cast of Max Steel, Dolphin Films’ live-action film based on the Mattel toy line.

The story centers on teenager Max McGrath (portrayed Ben Winchell) and his alien companion Steel, who combine special turbo-energy powers to become the superhero Max Steel.

Garcia will portray Dr. Miles Edwards, a brilliant and mysterious scientist, in the film, which will also star Latina actress Ana Villafané.

Garcia, who earned an Academy Award nomination for his performance in The Godfather Part III, most recently appeared in Rob The Mob and has a voice role in Rio 2.

He’ll next appear on the big screen in Let’s Be Cops and Kill the Messenger.

The 57-year-old Cuban actor has been cast in 20th Century Fox’s Let’s Be Cops, an action comedy starring Damon Wayans Jr. and Jake Johnson.

The Luke Greenfield-directed picture will also star The Vampire DiariesNina Dobrev and James D’Arcy.

Let’s Be Cops centers on two friends (Wayans and Johnson) who impersonate police officers using rented uniforms, giving their lives a boost and some fun. However, they run into trouble when they cross a dangerous Russian mobster.

Garcia will play a seasoned detective who inadvertently becomes the boss of the two wannabes.

The film is scheduled to begin shooting in Atlanta this summer.

It’s Garcia’s first studio movie since 2007’s Ocean’s Thirteen. He’s been acting and producing more character-driven projects like his starrer Middleton, which also stars Vera Farmiga.
