Texas Rangers Pitcher Nathan Eovaldi to Start World Series Game 1

Nathan Eovaldi will kick off the World Series for the Texas Rangers.

The 33-year-old part-Mexican American professional baseball pitcher will start Game 1 of the 2023 World Series for the Rangers, the team has announced.

Nathan EovaldiEovaldi has made four starts for the Rangers this postseason, including Games 2 and 6 in the American League Championship Series against the Houston Astros.

Eovaldi allowed seven runs in 26 innings in those four games, all of which the Rangers won. He has a career 2.87 ERA in 69 postseason innings.

Jordan Montgomery pitched Games 1 and 5 in the ALCS, but because he pitched in relief in Game 7, using him in Game 1 of the World Series would have meant bringing him back on short rest. He’ll most likely pitch Game 2 for Texas.

Eovaldi put up a 3.63 ERA in 25 starts for the Rangers in the regular season.

This season, he was named to the MLB All-Star team for a second time and was in the Cy Young Award discussion before a sore elbow sidelined him for about six weeks.

Eovaldi was not good when he returned from the injured list for the final month of the season, but has put those struggles behind him in the postseason.

He is a World Series champion, having won with the Boston Red Sox in 2018.

Luis Garcia Helps Lead Houston Astros to American League Championship Title

Luis Garcia is celebrating an Astros-nomical feat…

The 24-year-old Venezuelan professional baseball pitcher helped shut out the Boston Red Sox to help lead the Houston Astros to 5-0 victory in Game 6 of the American League Championship Series on Friday night.

As a result, the Astros win the 2021 American League pennant and will advance to their third World Series in five years. The Red Sox, conversely, will head home for the winter, having lost the best-of-seven series by a 4-2 margin.

The Astros received a stellar start from Garcia, a rookie right-hander, who atoned for his poor performance in Game 2.

Garcia threw 5 2/3 scoreless innings, holding the Red Sox to a single hit (an Enrique Hernández triple in the sixth) and a walk. He struck out seven batters and showed no ill effects from the knee injury that plagued him earlier in the series.

The Astros were paced offensively by Yordan Alvarez, the ALCS MVP. He delivered a pair of doubles as well as a triple. He drove in one run and scored the other.

Nathan Eovaldi, pitching just two days after his Game 5 relief appearance, permitted five hits and a walk across 4 1/3 innings. He gave up a run and struck out four batters.

The Astros will await the winner of the National League Championship Series between the Atlanta Braves and the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Braves lead that series by a 3-2 margin heading into Saturday’s Game 6 at Truist Park in Atlanta.

Eovaldi Agrees to One-Year Deal with the Tampa Bay Rays

Nathan Eovaldi is headed to the Sunshine State…

The 27-year-old Latino free-agent pitcher and the Tampa Bay Rays have reached a one-year, $2 million deal that features a club option for the 2018 season, according to ESPN.

Eovaldi is currently recovering from Tommy John surgery and is not expected to pitch in 2017.

Eovaldi had spent the past two seasons with the New York Yankees, before elbow injuries ended his 2016 season in August.

The hard-throwing right-hander needed surgery on his pitching elbow to repair a torn flexor tendon and partially torn ulnar collateral ligament.

Eovaldi isn’t the first player the Rays have signed this offseason undergoing a long recovery from injury.

Tampa Bay also signed free-agent catcher Wilson Ramos, who is recovering from tearing the ACL in his right knee for a second time. Ramos is not expected to play until June.

Eovaldi went 9-8 with a 4.76 ERA in 24 appearances (21 starts) for the Yankees last season.
