Nostromo Pictures Partners with Beta Fiction Spain to Launch Documentary About Santi Serra, “Hermano Caballo”

Santi Serra’s horse training techniques will soon be hitting global theaters…

Spanish producer Nostromo Pictures is partnering with Beta Fiction Spain to launch Hermano Caballo, a documentary about the renowned Catalan wrangler, the developer of a natural training technique based on creating bonds with horses and learning through play.

Nostromo Pictures, Beta Fiction Spain, Hermano Caballo, Santi Serra,The film is from Marcel Barrena, director of  Mediterraneo: The Law of the Sea and 100 Meters.

Barrena shows how Serra develops his own language with animals, especially with his horses, managing to communicate with them and establish strong relationships of trust and friendship.

Hermano Caballo marks the first documentary produced by Nostromo Pictures and also the first handled by Beta Fiction Spain, the Spanish arm of Jan Mojto’s European studio Beta Film, which launched last year.

Hermano Caballo is scheduled for a Spanish release before the summer and, to be announced soon, a festival that will serve as the doc-feature’s launch pad.

“This is a very cinematographic, family documentary, full of values and where we see how a unique bond of friendship develops between a dying horse and Santi,” said Adrián Guerra, Nostromo co-founder alongside Núria Valls.

“If it were a fictional feature film, it would be a great family event and we thought that the documentary, as for example My Octopus Teacher achieved, could stand as a documentary on its own,” Guerra added.

Daniel Brühl to Star in Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia’s Thriller “Rich Flu”

Daniel Brühl’s acting riches continue…

The 43-year-old half-Spanish actor has joined the cast of the Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia directed thriller, Rich Flu, alongside Macaulay Culkin.

In the film, a strange disease is killing off some of the richest and most influential people on the planet. First it was the billionaires, then the multi-millionaires and so on progressively. Now it threatens to strike anyone with any sort of fortune, and no one knows where it might end. With the whole world panicking and our very way of life headed for collapse, people are trying to flood the market with assets the world no longer wants.

Pedro Rivero, Gaztelu-Urrutia and David Desola wrote the screenplay with revisions by Sam Steiner.

Sierra/Affinity is handling foreign sales and has the project available to buyers at this year’s Cannes Film Market. CAA Media Finance is representing the film domestically.

Producers on Rich Flu include Pablo Larraín and Juan de Dios Larraín via their Fabula banner, which produced the movies Spencer, Jackie, and No; Adrián Guerra and Núria Valls via the Nostromo Pictures label; Carlos Juárez; as well as Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia and Albert Soler.

Brühl, who will next star in Stefano Mordini’s racing film 2 Win, was nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the BAFTAs for Ron Howard’s Rush. 

His previous feature credits include The King’s Man, Captain America: Civil War, Inglourious Basterds and the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. 

Rodrigo Cortés Directing the Warsaw Ghetto-Set Romantic Musical Drama “Love Gets a Room”

Rodrigo Cortés is preparing for some love and music…

The 48-year-old Spanish film director, producer, screenwriter, editor and writer will helm Love Gets a Room, a Warsaw Ghetto-set romantic musical drama.

The film will star Clara Rugaard and Ferdia Walsh-Peelo.

Shot under the radar in order to magnify impact nearer to release when theaters return, said its producer Adrián Guerra, Love Gets a Room is produced and financed by Guerra’s Nostromo Pictures, with Lionsgate International handling international rights and CAA representing U.S. rights.

Top Spanish independent A Contracorriente Films will release the film in Spain theatrically at the end of the year.

Written by German bestseller writer David Safier and Cortés, the film captures a group of actors as they perform in the heart of the Warsaw Ghetto, in a life or death context on a run-down stage, Love Gets a Room, a real-life musical comedy that was written by playwright Jerzy Jurandot, a Polish Jew, and performed by a group of actors in the winter of 1942 at the Femina Theater in Warsaw.

“Safier discovered the existence of the original work and wanted to honor that beautiful achievement made by a group of actors now forgotten in the middle of the blackness,” Guerra told Variety.

The text of the play that is represented in the film is the original, as it was performed in 1942. The lyrics of the songs have survived, with the music for the film being composed in the tradition of the musical theater of that time. All the songs have been shot live and the sound of the original takes has been used, without playback.

Told in real time —as Cortés’ acclaimed Buried – Love Gets a Room “engulfs the audience in an emotional adventure to discover a side of history never before told on film,” Guerra said.

This pictures “all kinds of artists (actors, musicians, writers) still performing, under the most unlikable circumstances, only to save their sanity, to stoke the art they deeply love, to engage in a civilizing, humanity-affirming exchange,” he added.

Love Gets a Room captures Cortés on a roll, after the publication of his second novel, The Extraordinary Years, written in the great Spanish tradition of the absurd which became one of the unexpected literary hits this summer in Spain.
