The 61-year-old Puerto Rican actor has been cast as a series regular in CBSNASA-themed drama pilot Mission Control, from The Martian author Andy Weir, The Martian producer Simon Kinberg and veteran showrunner Charles Eglee (Dexter).

Written by Weir, Mission Control revolves around the next generation of NASA astronauts and scientists who juggle their personal and professional lives during a critical mission with no margin for error.

Serrano will play Diaz, director of the Johnson Space Center.

Torres Lands Recurring Role on ABC’s “The Catch”

Gina Torres has landed The Catch of the day…

The 47-year-old Cuban American actress has landed a recurring role on the second season of the ABC drama series The Catch, from Shonda RhimesShondaLand and ABC Studios.

As usual with ShondaLand shows, no details about Torres’ character have been revealed.

Executive produced by Rhimes, The Catch centers on Alice Vaughan (Mireille Enos), a private investigator for high-end clients. Torres joins T.R. Knight, who also was recently cast in a recurring role.

Torres just wrapped her starring role as Jessica Pearson on USA Network’s Suits in this week’s Season 6 summer finale, having been with the legal drama series since its launch.

At ABC and ABC Studios, Torres toplined the drama pilot The Death of Eva Sofia Valdez this past season and previously recurred on Revenge

Her other notable television roles include the shotgun-toting mercenary Zoe Washburne on Joss Whedon’s Firefly, (she also played the character in Whedon’s feature Serenity), the soul-eating Jasmine on Whedon’s Angel and a recurring gig on NBC’s Hannibal

Torres film work includes The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions and I Think I Love My Wife opposite Chris Rock.

Zovatto to Star in Fullscreen Media’s Original Drama “The Deleted”

The 25-year-old Costa Rican actor has joined the cast of Fullscreen Media’s original drama The Deleted.

Written and directed by Bret Easton EllisThe Deleted follows members of a cult in Northern Washington who escaped to Los Angeles and go off the grid. When escapees begin disappearing, they’re driven to find one another for protection as nefarious cult leaders hunt them down.

Zovatto, who was recently cast on AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead, will portray Logan.

Other cast members include Orange Is the New Black’s Madeline Brewer, The Hunger GamesIan Nelson, Nash Grier (The Outfield), Will Peltz (Unfriended), Spencer Neville (Amerigeddon) and Todd Maurer (Scream Queens).

The Deleted, slated to premiere later this year, will be available exclusively on the Fullscreen SVOD platform, and via iPhone, iPad, select Android phones and Chromecast for $4.99 per month.

Zovatto’s credits include Hulu’s Dimension 404, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Revenge.

Don’t despair! Torress’ casting shouldn’t impact her status on the popular USA drama series, which just ended its fifth season and has been renewed for Season 6. Torres is expected to remain a regular through season 6, fulfilling her six-year contract, with her character likely getting phased out.

Zovatto to Star in USA Network’s Pilot “Brooklyn Animal Control”

The 24-year-old Costa Rican actor has signed on to appear in the USA Network pilot Brooklyn Animal Control, based on the IDW Publishing comic created by JT Petty.

It follows the inner workings of a secret subdivision of the New York Police Department that functions as social services for some of the city’s most unique citizens: werewolves.

Zovatto will portray Donovan Crean, an unemployed drunk and car thief in debt to all the wrong people whose world turns upside down with the startling revelation that his father, Brooklyn Animal Control officer John Crean (Stephen Graham), manages werewolves for a living. Accustomed to threats of jail time and broken knees, Donovan suddenly has to deal with the bewildering prospect of ending up gristle in a pile of werewolf scat.

Zovatto’s credits include appearances on Revenge and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., as well as roles in the films Laggies and It Follows.

Fox Gives Early Renewal to Smollett’s Hip-Hop Musical Drama “Empire”

Fox has given an early sophomore season renewal for the 31-year-old Brazilian actor/singer’s new drama series Empire.

The order for Empire was a no-brainer, as the show has performed extremely well for the network and made plenty of noise in social media.

The Imagine Television/20th Century Fox Television drama was created by Lee Daniels and Danny Strong. Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson lead the ensemble cast in the primetime sudser about a hip-hop music mogul.

Smollet portrays Jamal Lyon on Empire, which also features Rafael de la Fuente in a recurring role as Smollet’s love interest.

Smollet’s previous credits include appearances on Revenge, On Our Own and The Mindy Project.

Martinez Signs with Paradigm Talent Agency

The 49-year-old half-Spanish actor has signed on as a client with Paradigm Talent Agency.

Martinez, who has a César Award under his belt for 1993’s Un, deux, trois, soleil, most recently appeared last season on ABC’s Revenge as French billionaire media mogul Pascal LeMarchal.

He’ll next appear in History Channel’s upcoming miniseries Texas Rising playing Antonio López de Santa Anna, the 19th century Mexican general known as the Napoleon of the West, in a cast that includes Bill Paxton, Ray Liotta, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Brendan Fraser and Chad Michael Murray.

Martinez rose to acclaim in the United States after starring in Unfaithful with Diane Lane and Richard Gere. His other credits include Before Night Falls opposite Javier Bardem, S.W.A.T. with Samuel L. Jackson, D.J. Caruso’s Taking Lives, and Dark Tide with wife Halle Berry.

Casciani to Star in the Vinnie Pazienza Biopic “Bleed For This”

The cast also includes Katey Sagal, Aaron Eckhart and Ciaran Hands.

She has a recurring role on the CW’s Jane The Virgin, starring Gina Rodriguez.

Her credits include television appearances on Reckless, Murder In The First, CSI and Revenge.

Ortiz to Guest Star on ABC’s “Black-ish”

The 43-year-old half-Puerto Rican actress and Devious Maids star has booked a a pivotal guest-starring role on ABC’s Black-ish, starring Anthony Anderson.

Appearing in the 11th show’s episode airing this coming December, Ortiz will play Angelica Rodriguez, one of Dre’s (Anderson) co-workers who becomes an adversary at their company’s office Christmas party.

Jenifer Lewis is also set to appear in the episode as Dre’s mother, Ruby.

Ortiz, who co-starred in ABC dramedy Ugly Betty from 2006-10, has dropped by several of the network’s dramas since then — Revenge (2013) and more recently, How to Get Away With Murder.

Ortiz’s Devious Maids, which Lifetime renewed in September, returns for its third season in 2015.

Black-ish airs 9:30 pm ET on Wednesdays on ABC.

Stowe to Star Opposite Nicolas Cage in the Political Drama “The Runner”

The 55-year-old half-Costa Rican American actress and Revenge star has signed on to star in Austin Stark‘s political drama The Runner alongside Nicolas Cage.

Stowe will portray Deborah Price, the steely spouse to Cage’s congressman character.

Bound together by ambition, the two are stuck in a virtually dead marriage that sees Stowe’s character turning the other way when it comes to her husband’s publicly revealed infidelities.

Stark also wrote and produces The Runner, which takes place in the shadow of the 2010 BP oil spill that ravaged the Gulf Coast.

Filming is set to start in New Orleans in June.
