Tonatiuh to Star in Netflix & Amblin’s Thriller “Carry-On”

The Latino actor, screenwriter and activist will star in Netflix and Amblin’s thriller Carry-On.

Tonatiuh Tonatiuh is part of a roster of new cast additions that includes Dean Norris, Logan Marshall Green and Sinqua Walls.

Additionally, Joe Williamson, Curtiss Cook, Josh Brener and Gil Perez-Abraham round out the cast, who will all join previously announced stars Taron Egerton, Jason Bateman, Sofia Carson, Danielle Deadwyler and Theo Rossi.

Details regarding the characters they’ll portray remain under wraps.

Carry-On will begin production this week with Jaume Collet-Serra serving as director.

The film centers around Ethan Kopek, a young TSA agent who gets blackmailed by a mysterious traveler to let a dangerous package slip through security and onto a Christmas Day flight.

TJ Fixman penned the screenplay’s first draft, with Michael Green doing the most recent polish. Dylan Clark will produce. The film marks the first production out of the overall deal Amblin signed with Netflix last June.

Tonatiuh’s previous projects include Vida, Promised Land and Angelyne.

Christina Milian to Star in an Alicia Keys-Produced Netflix Rom-Com

Christina Milian is returning to Netflix

The 38-year-old Afro-Cuban American singer/actress will star in the Alicia Keys-produced untitled Netflix romantic comedy that explores the bonds of love and family.

Milian, who previously starred on the Netflix film Falling Inn Love and appeared on Netflix’s series Soundtrack, will star opposite Jay Pharoah, and Sinqua Walls will star in the film, which is being directed by Steven Tsuchida.

The script was co-written by Dana Schmalenberg and Rheeqrheeq Chainey. It centers around an aspiring pop star, Erica, who ends up as the entertainment at her ex-fiancé’s wedding after reluctantly taking a gig at a luxurious island resort while in the wake of a music career meltdown. She tries to keep their past relationship a secret from his bride-to-be Beverly, but Erica rediscovers her feelings for her ex, Jason, despite his brother Caleb’s attempts to keep them from falling back in love. The question soon becomes will Erica sing at Beverly’s wedding – or her own?

Filming will take place in Mauritius.

Milian, known for her hit singles  “AM to PM,” “Dip It Low” and “Whatever U Want,” has previously starred in A Snow Globe Christmas and East Los High.

Diaz to Star in VHI’s Scripted Hip-Hop Series “The Breaks”

Melonie Diaz has landed a real Break

The 32-year-old Puerto Rican actress has joined the cast of VH1’s The Breaks, the network’s new scripted series based on its critically acclaimed hit film that aired earlier this year.

Diaz will portray a new character in the series. She’ll play Damita Alonzo, a writer for a hip New York weekly.

Diaz joins a cast that includes Sinqua WallsAli Ahn, Afton Willamson, Wood Harris, Mack Wilds, Antoine Harris, David Call and Evan Handler.

Inspired by Dan Charnas’ book The Big Payback, a narrative history of the hip-hop business, The Breaks is written, directed and executive produced by Seith Mann with a story by Mann and Charnas.

The film followed three young friends fulfilling their hip hop dreams in New York City in 1990. The series will continue to explore their triumph and heartbreak trying to make their mark in a new and complex hip hop culture.

Diaz’s previous television credits include appearances on Girls, Person of Interest and CSI: Miami.

Garcia to Guest Star on ABC’s “Once Upon a Time”

Jorge Garcia will soon be appearing in a giant role on one of last season’s biggest new series…

The 39-year-old half-Cuban/half-Chilean American actor/comedian will portray the Giant in an episode of ABC’s Once Upon a Time, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

With plans for a Jack and the Beanstalk episode, it’s believed that Garcia will appear in that hour of the ABC fairy-tale drama’s upcoming second season

The casting marks a reunion for all involved: Once Upon a Time showrunners Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis served as producers on Lost, on which Garcia played Hurley.

In the new season, Once Upon a Time will be introducing new characters Mulan (Jamie Chung), Sir Lancelot (Sinqua Walls), Sleeping Beauty (Sarah Bolger), Prince Phillip (Julian Morris) and Captain Hook (Colin O’Donoghue).

Garcia’s most recent stint was on Fox‘s sci-fi series Alcatraz as Dr. Diego Soto. He also signed on to guest star on Showtime’s Californication.

Once Upon a Time returns at 8:00 pm on Sunday, September 30 on ABC.
