Jaume Collet-Serra to Direct Blumhouse’s “The Woman in the Yard”

Jaume Collet-Serra is hitting the yard…

The 49-year-old Spanish film director and producer and Black Adam filmmaker will direct Blumhouse’s The Woman in the Yard, starring and executive-produced by Danielle Deadwyler.

The project reteams Collet-Serra and Deadwyler, who recently collaborated on the Netflix thriller film, Carry On.

The film, which has a plot line under wraps, is set for theatrical release on January 10, 2025.

“I’ve been trying to find the right project to work on with Jaume, in our system, for over a decade. The Woman in the Yard is the perfect match, a film that’s ambitious in scope but modest in budget that combines Jaume’s vision with the incomparable Danielle Deadwyler. Together with my friend Stephanie Allain, this is a real dream team and I’m excited to collaborate with them on the film,” said Blumhouse boss Jason Blum.

The Woman in the Yard is written by Sam Stefanak. Blum and Allain are producers on the film. Collet-Serra, Deadwyler, Gabrielle Ebron, Scott Greenberg and James Moran are EPs. Haley Pigman and Jungyoon Kim are the executives covering the film for Blumhouse.

The Woman in the Yard is a Blumhouse production for Universal.

Collet-Serra’s other credits include House of Wax, Orphan and The Shallows, as well as the Liam Neeson-led thriller films Unknown, Non-Stop, Run All Night and The Commuter.

Jaume Collet-Serra to Direct the Action Thriller “Kate Warne”

Jaume Collet-Serra is back in action…

The 49-year-old Spanish-American film director and producer will direct the action thriller Kate Warne for Amazon, MGM and Dwayne Johnson’s Seven Bucks Productions.

Collet-Serra is directing from script by Melissa Stack. Gustin Nash penned the first draft of the film built around Warne, a real-life Sherlock Holmes. She was the first female detective at the Pinkerton Agency and paved the way for future women in law enforcement and forever changed how detective work was done.

Seven Bucks’ Johnson, Hiram and Dany Garcia are producing.

Emily Blunt is also producing for her Ledburry Productions banner, but with an eye to star in the film. There are no current acting deals in place, according to Deadline.

Stack co-wrote Godmothered for Disney with Kari Granlund. Stack also penned The Other Woman for 20th Century Fox. She also wrote and is attached to direct Family Vacation at 20th.

Collet-Serra previously directed Seven Bucks’ Black Adam and Jungle Cruise.

His other credits include The Shallows, Non-Stop, The Commuter and Orphan.

Altitude Film Sales Acquires Worldwide Sales Rights to Carolina Gaitán’s Survival Thriller “Quicksand”

Altitude Film Sales has boarded worldwide sales rights to the high-concept survival thriller Quicksand, starring the 38-year-old Colombian actress and singer, and will introduce first footage to buyers at Cannes next week.

The U.S.-Colombia co-production recently completed shooting in Bogota and is now in post-production.

The contained thriller, which is reportedly in the vein of The Shallows and 127 Hours, follows an American couple, on the brink of divorce, who travel to Colombia for a work conference. While on a hike through the rainforest, a storm causes them to become trapped in a pit of quicksand. Unable to move, it becomes a struggle for survival as they battle the elements of the jungle and a venomous snake, in order to escape.

Andrés Beltrán directed the film, which was written by Matt Pitts. The project is produced by Las Vegas-based production company Sangre Films, which is a joint venture between Colombian outfit Elemental Stories and U.S. companies 222 Pictures and Dawn’s Light Movies.

Mike Runagall of genre specialist Altitude noted: “We are thrilled to be bringing this fiendishly entertaining thrill ride to buyers and look forward to sharing the impressive first footage with them in Cannes.”

Gaitán, who voiced Pepa in Disney’s Encanto, leadsthe cast. Gaitán, whose credits also include Narcos, stars alongside Allan Hawco in the English-language movie.

Gaitán recently performed We Don’t Talk About Bruno live at the Academy Awards alongside her Encanto cast.

Jaume Collet-Serra In Talks to Direct “Black Adam”

Jaume Collet-Serra may have found the Adam’s apple of his eye…

The 45-year-old Spanish film director and producer is in negotiations to direct Black Adam, Warner Bros. and New Line’s spinoff of their DC Comics hit Shazam!.

Adam Sztykielwrote the latest draft of the film, which will star Dwayne Johnson.

Collet-Serra and Johnson just finished collaborating on Disney’s Jungle Cruise, so they look to be sailing off together again on another tentpole project.

Collet-Serra’s past credits include the Liam Neesonthrillers Non-Stop, Run All Nightand The Commuter.

He also helmed the Blake Livelyfilm The Shallows.

Black Adam is Shazam’s arch-nemesis and a complex antihero with a rich history of his own. Johnson was to play the character in the first movie before in the parties decided he warranted his own pic, and he came aboard in January 2017.

Shazam! was a hit when it bowed in April, grossing $362.7 million worldwide, with a sequel already in the works.

Manuel Garcia-Rulfo to Star in the Supernatural Thriller “Mary”

It’s a Hail Mary for Manuel Garcia-Rulfo…

The 36-year-old Mexican actor has joined the cast of the supernatural thriller Mary opposite Emily Mortimer and Gary Oldman, which is currently in production in Alabama with Michael Goi at the helm.

Written by The Shallows’ Anthony Jaswinski, the story follows a couple facing financial struggles who buy an old ship at auction with the hope of starting a charter business, only to discover her horrifying secrets on the isolated open waters.

Garcia-Rulfo is best known for his roles in films such as Bless Me, Ultima and Cake, as well as From Dusk till Dawn: The Series.

Garcia-Rulfo is also headlined as one of the titular characters in the 2016 remake The Magnificent Seven.

The actor will next be seen in the remake of Murder on the Orient Express.

Tooley Entertainment and eOne are co-financing and producing Mary under their first-look co-financing and international distribution deal.

Jaenada to Star Opposite Amy Schumer & Goldie Hawn in Mother-Daughter Adventure Comedy

Oscar Jaenada has a little blonde ambition…

The 41-year-old Spanish actor will star opposite Amy Schumer and Goldie Hawn in the still untitled mother-daughter adventure comedy in a yet-to-be-revealed role.

The 20th Century Fox pic is directed by Jonathan Levine and written by Katie Dippold, who drew inspiration from her relationship with her mother.

Jaenada won a Goya Award for his portrayal of legendary flamenco dancer Camaron de la Isla in Camaron: When Flamenco Became Legend, and will next be seen opposite Blake Lively this summer in the Cannes Film Festival thriller The Shallows, directed by Jaume Collet-Serra.

His other credits include the lead role in Cantinflas, Mexico’s 2015 foreign language Oscar submission, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, and Steven Soderbergh’s Che.

Jaenada to Star Opposite Blake Lively in “The Shallows”

Oscar Jaenada is heading to the shallows…

The 40-year-old Spanish actor has joined the cast of Jaume Collet-Serra’s The Shallows opposite Blake Lively.

Jaenada, a Goya Award winner, is crossing over into the mainstream after bringing beloved Mexican comedic icon Cantinflas to the screen in the 2014 movie of the same name.

He has a small, but book-ended role in The Shallows.

Written by Anthony Jaswinski, the story centers on a young woman (Lively) who is grieving the loss her mother and surfing in an isolated area when she gets stranded on a buoy. Things take a turn for the worse when a gigantic great white shark comes between her and the shore.

The film was known as In The Deep when Sony Pictures won a bidding war for the spec script in September 2014, and brought Collet-Serra aboard in June.

Jaenada, who appears in The Weinstein Company’s 2016 offering Hands Of Stone opposite Robert De Niro, will play Carlos in the film, described as a workman who drives Lively’s character to the beach and then shows up again at the end of the film to check on her.

The film is casting now and has three other small supporting roles that are earmarked for Hispanic actors.

Jaenada won the coveted Goya (Spain’s equivalent of the Academy Award) for his portrayal of Camaron de la Isla, the legendary Spanish flamenco dancer, in 2005’s Camaron: When Flamenco Became Legend.

Cantinflas was Mexico’s 2015 foreign-language Oscar submission.

In addition, the actor had a starring role in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, and a critically praised appearance in Steven Soderbergh’s Che.
