Laz Alonso Signs with Independent Artist Group for Representation

Independent Artist Group has signed the 49-year-old Afro-Cuban American actor for representation.

Laz AlonsoAlonso is best known for starring on the hit Amazon series The Boys, centering on vigilantes’ efforts to take down a group of corrupt superheroes, which returns for its fourth season this year.

On the show developed by Eric Kripke from the same-name comic by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, Alonso portrays the vigilante Mother’s Milk, sharing the screen with Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty and more.

He’s also currently voicing the title character on Netflix’s animated series My Dad the Bounty Hunter,.

Alonso’s past television credits include A&E’s cult hit Breakout Kings, Starz’s Power Book II: Ghost, TNT’s Southland, NBC’s Deception and The Mysteries Of Laura and Spectrum Originals’ L.A.’s Finest.

On the film side, he’s been seen portraying the villain Fenix opposite Vin Diesel in multiple Fast & Furious titles, also appearing in James Cameron’s Avatar. Other notable big screen credits include the Jason Statham action thriller Wrath of Man, Kathryn Bigelow’s Detroit, Spike Lee’s Miracle at St. AnnaStomp the YardJarhead and Constantine.

Additionally, Alonso has executive-produced titles including Alan JacobsTIFF drama Down for Life, in which he starred alongside Danny Glover, and the indie thriller Detained co-starring Abbie Cornish. He heads up the production company Abundancia Pictures as CEO and continues to be represented by Authentic Talent and Literary Management and attorney Rick Genow at Goodman, Genow, Schenkman.

Laz Alonso to Star in Amazon’s Drama Series “The Boys”

The 43-year-old Afro-Cuban American actor has landed a role in Amazon’s straight-to-series drama The Boys.

The project comes from from Supernatural creator and Timeless co-creator Eric KripkePreacher‘s Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen and Sony Pictures Television.

Written by Kripke based on the comic book by Garth Ennis & Darick Robertson and directed by Goldberg & Rogen, The Boys is set in a world where superheroes embrace the darker side of their massive celebrity and fame. It revolves around a group of vigilantes known informally as “the boys,” who set out to take down corrupt superheroes with no more than blue-collar grit and a willingness to fight dirty.

Alonso will play Mother’s Milk. Second in command of the Boys, he’s a great detective, highly intelligent and observant and an intuitive investigator.

Alonso, whose television series credits include NBC’s The Mysteries of Laura IDeception, as well as A&E’s Breakout Kings, appeared in Kathryn Bigelow’s Detroit and will next be seen opposite Paula Patton and Omar Epps in the Lionsgate feature Traffik.

Martinez Lands Recurring Role on HBO’s “True Detective”

The Cuban-Puerto Rican actress has joined the cast of the upcoming season of HBO’s True Detective, which will also feature Adria Arjona.

Martinez, who stars opposite Mark Consuelos in Amazon StudiosAlpha House, will serve as a recurring actor on the second installment of the crime franchise.

The upcoming season revolves around three police officers (Colin Farrell, Taylor Kitsch and Rachel McAdams) and a career criminal (Vince Vaughn) who must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder.

Martinez plays Andrea, a Mexican-American immigrant who runs an inn.

She’s also a recurring actress on the CW’s Jane The Virgin. Her other television credits include Necessary Roughness, Nashville, Hollywood Heights, Breakout Kings and Southland.

It’s a mysterious time for Laz Alonso

The 39-year-old Afro-Cuban American actor has signed on to co-star opposite Debra Messing in NBC’s drama pilot The Mysteries of Laura.

Directed by McG, from a script written by Jeff Rake, the project is based on the popular Spanish series Los misterios de Laura.

The telelvision project centers on the life and relationships of Laura Diamond (Messing), a female homicide detective who can handle murderous criminals — but not her hell-raising twin children.

Alonso will portray Billy, Laura’s partner in crime.

Alonso’s casting stems from a talent holding deal the network inked with him following his stint on last season’s short-lived drama Deception.

The Mysteries of Laura is being produced by Warner Bros. Television, Greg Berlanti’s Berlanti Productions and Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment.

Alonso’s previous credits include Breakout Kings and Avatar.

Orci’s Latest Project “Scorpion” Gets Pilot Order at CBS

Roberto Orci latest television could have (eight) legs at CBS…

The network has given a pilot order to Scorpion, a drama from the 40-year-old Mexican American film and television writer and producer, Nick Santora, Justin Lin and Alex Kurtzman.

The project, which had a put pilot commitment, was written by Breakout Kings co-creator Santora and will be directed by Fast & Furious’ Lin, with CBS Television Studios producing.

It centers on an eccentric genius and his international network of super-geniuses who form the last line of defense against the complex threats of the modern age.

Scorpion was inspired by the true story of Walter O’Brien (hacker name “Scorpion”), CEO of global think tank Scorpion Computer Services. A man with one of the world’s highest documented IQs (1 in 1.5B people), O’Brien became a real-life Professor X and recruited and trained other geniuses from around the world to work together to save lives and solve problems from casino security to Military Drone warfare.

This is a second pilot order this season from Orci and Kurtzman’s K/O, along with the terrorism drama Identity at the CW.

Martinez to Star in Web Drama “Cybergeddon”

Olivier Martinez is having a Yahoo moment!

The 46-year-old half Spanish actor—who rose to fame opposite Diane Lane in Unfaithful—is top-lining the long-form online thriller Cybergeddon for Yahoo alongside Rookie Blue star Missy Peregrym.

Developed by CSI creator Anthony Zuiker, the scripted web drama centers on the growing threat of cyber crime.

Bringing A-list talent to the digital space, Martinez—who recently opened a French/Italian restaurant in Miami—will star as the elusive cybercriminal Gustove Dobreff, while Peregrym will portray FBI agent Chloe Jocelyn.

The online project, which is currently shooting in Hamilton, Ontario, will launch first as a series of installments on Yahoo, before reaching other digital platforms.

Diego Velasco, director of the Venezuelan box office hit The Zero Hour, will helm the scripted drama.

The Cybergeddon cast includes Breakout Kings‘ Manny Montana and Kick Gurry.

Alonso is About to Get “Notorious”…

Laz Alonso could be headed to the Peacock Network in the near future.

The 38-year-old Afro-Cuban American actor, who picked up his first NAACP Image Award last month, has been cast as the male lead opposite Meagan Good in NBC’s drama pilot Notorious.

Notorious is described as an opulent soap in which detective Joanna Locasto (Good) returns undercover to the wealthy and troubled Lawson family she grew up in — as the housekeeper’s daughter — to solve the murder of celebutante Vivian Lawson, who was once her closest friend.

Alonzo will play NYPD detective Will Sacovitch, who recruits former flame Joanna to infiltrate the Lawson home, in hopes that she’ll find evidence that Vivian was murdered.

Alonso, who most recently starred in A&E’s Breakout Kings, has starred in the feature film Jumping the Broom and guest-starred on Southland.
