Ryan Guzman to Star in the Family Comedy “The Present”

Ryan Guzman is living in the present…

The 34-year-old half-Mexican American actor has replaced Ross Butler in the family comedy The Present.

Ryan GuzmanFrom director Christian Ditter, the film will now star Guzman alongside Isla Fisher, Greg Kinnear, Easton Rocket Sweda, Shay Rudolph and Mason Shea Joyce.

The reasons for Butler’s departure haven’t been disclosed.

In the film from Stuart Ford’s independent content studio AGC Studios, a brilliant boy discovers he can manipulate time using an enchanted family heirloom, then teaming up with his siblings to go back to the eve of their parents’ separation in hopes of changing the outcome. As their schemes become more elaborate, the siblings will learn about family bonds and what they can and can’t control.

Fisher and Kinnear are playing the parents in search of reconciliation, with Sweda, Rudolph and Joyce portraying the siblings who just might be the only people who can make that happen.

The Present was written by Emmy winner Jay Martel (Key and Peele).

Ford, who serves as Chairman and CEO of AGC Studios, is producing alongside Linda McDonough for the company, with Marcei Brown and Jessica Malanaphy for CatchLightStudios.

Martel, CatchLight’s Jason Clark, and AGC’s Zach Garrett and Miguel Palos are serving as executive producers

Guzman is best known for his role as firefighter Eddie Diaz on Fox’s 9-1-1 and has also been seen on such series as Notorious, Heroes Reborn and Pretty Little Liars.

His big-screen credits include Step Up Revolution and Step Up All In, as well Everybody Wants Some!! and Jem and the Holograms.

Ryan Guzman has more emergencies in his future…

Fox has renewed its sophomore drama 9-1-1, starring the 31-year-old half-Mexican American actor, for a third season.

Following its launch last midseason, 9-1-1 has delivered +24% year-over-year growth for Fox Monday this past fall.

9-1-1, from Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear, was a breakout hit when it premiered last season. It quickly emerged as Fox’s highest-rated and most watched TV series.

The network’s unscripted phenom The Masked Singer recently took the crown as Fox’s top primetime series but 9-1-1 remains the net’s most watched and highest-rated scripted series. 

Season-to-date, the drama about first responders has averaged a 2.6 adults 18-49 rating and 10.2 million viewers (in most current Nielsen ratings); 15.4 million total multi-platform viewers. It is a Top 10 entertainment program among Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34 across all broadcast and cable networks.

“9-1-1 redefined what a procedural series can be, consistently delivering edge-of-your-seat emergencies, mixed with emotional story arcs and incredible performances from one of the most powerful teams of actors on television,” said Fox Entertainment President Michael Thorn. “Kudos to Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, Tim Minear and their entire crew, as well as the amazing cast anchored by Angela Bassett, Peter Krauseand Jennifer Love Hewittfor raising the bar week after week.”

9-1-1 explores the high-pressure experiences of police officers, firefighters and emergency operators who are thrust into the most frightening, shocking and heart-stopping situations. 9-1-1 is produced by 20th Century Fox Televisionin association with Ryan Murphy Television and Brad Falchuk Teley-Vision. 

Guzman joined the cast as a series regular in Season 2 LAFDfirefighter Eddie Diaz.

His previous television credits include Heroes Reborn, Pretty Little Liarsand Notorious. His film credits include appearing in the Step Upfranchiseand opposite Jennifer Lopezin The Boy Next Door.

De Leon to Star in Family Drama “One Nation Under God”

Patricia De Leon has found her faith…

The 41-year-old Panamanian actress has been cast in Suretone Pictures/Film Incito’s family drama One Nation Under God.

De Leon joins a cast that includes Kevin Sorbo, Casper Van Dien and Antonio Sabato Jr.

Written and directed by Lisa Arnold, the film centers on a high school where “one nation under God” is not part of the pledge of allegiance, prompting a student to question the decision.

The simple questioning of faith, government, and free speech prompts a national conversation in a presidential race.

De Leon plays a widowed, single parent who finds herself in the crossroads as she questions her faith during the national debate.

De Leon’s recent credits include guest stints on ABC’s Notorious and Scorpion on CBS.

There’s a notorious role in Ryan Guzman’s future…

The 28-year-old half-Mexican American actor has landed a series regular role opposite Piper Perabo and Daniel Sunjata in ABC’s drama pilot Notorious.

Hailing from Sony Pictures Television and Jeff Kwatinetz’s The Firm, the project was inspired by the relationship between famed criminal defense attorney Mark Geragos and longtime Larry King Live executive producer Wendy Walker.

Written by Drop Dead Diva creator Josh Berman and blogger Allie Hagan, Notorious is described as a provocative look at the interplay of criminal law and the media. It follows the professional and personal relationship between charismatic attorney Jake Gregorian (Sunjata) and powerhouse television producer Julia George (Perabo) as they attempt to control the media, the justice system, and ultimately each other.

Guzman will play Ryan Mills, Julia’s eager-to-please intern, son of the network president. Despite his youth and innocent facade, he’s ambitious and conniving, desperate to prove himself to his overbearing father.

Guzman, who rose to acclaim after starring in Step Up Revolution, most recently starred as Carlos Gutierrez on NBC’s Heroes Reborn and in the cartoon-based film Jem and The Holograms. His other credits include The Boy Next Door.

He can next be seen in Richard Linklater’s Everybody Wants Some.

del Toro to Teach Master Classes on Hitchcock

Guillermo del Toro is about to get his Hitchcock on…

The 47-year-old Mexican filmmaker who directed the Hellboy films is partnering with the Toronto International Film Festival to lead four master classes on classic Alfred Hitchcock films this May. The TIFF Bell Lightbox lectures come as del Toro continues shooting the alien invasion film Still Seas, a.k.a. Pacific Rim, in Toronto.

Beginning Monday, May 7, del Toro will offer master classes for Frenzy, Shadow of a Doubt, North by Northwest and Notorious with a one-hour introduction and a one-hour post-screening discussion for each film.

Previously, del Toro—who has signed on to  produce an animated Day of the Dead film—was at Bell Lightbox to lecture genre film fans on the Italian vampire tale L’Arcano Incantatore, which del Toro programmed himself.

del Toro’s Still Seas is slated to open in theaters in May 2013.

Alonso is About to Get “Notorious”…

Laz Alonso could be headed to the Peacock Network in the near future.

The 38-year-old Afro-Cuban American actor, who picked up his first NAACP Image Award last month, has been cast as the male lead opposite Meagan Good in NBC’s drama pilot Notorious.

Notorious is described as an opulent soap in which detective Joanna Locasto (Good) returns undercover to the wealthy and troubled Lawson family she grew up in — as the housekeeper’s daughter — to solve the murder of celebutante Vivian Lawson, who was once her closest friend.

Alonzo will play NYPD detective Will Sacovitch, who recruits former flame Joanna to infiltrate the Lawson home, in hopes that she’ll find evidence that Vivian was murdered.

Alonso, who most recently starred in A&E’s Breakout Kings, has starred in the feature film Jumping the Broom and guest-starred on Southland.
