Amazon to Debut Martinez’s Comedy Pilot “The Tick” This August

Amazon has picked its lineup for the online retailer’s 2016 comedy pilot season, with the 36-year-old Puerto Rican actress and Jane the Virgin star’s project The Tick slated to debut in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Austria and Japan on August 19.

In a world where superheroes have been real for decades, The Tick centers on an underdog accountant with zero powers who comes to realize his city is owned by a global super villain long-thought dead. As he struggles to uncover this conspiracy, he falls in league with a strange blue superhero.

In addition to Martinez, who stars on Hollywood Heights, The Tick also stars Peter Serafinowicz, Griffin Newman, Jackie Earle Haley, Valorie Curry and Brendan Hines.

The Tick is directed by Wally Pfister. The project is a co-production with Sony Pictures Television.

Amazon customers can stream and review the pilot to help the online retailer choose the next Amazon Original Series that’ll be available for Amazon Prime members.

The pilot will be available via the Amazon Video app for TVs, connected devices including Fire TV, and mobile devices, or online.

Martinez’s credits include appearances on True Detective, Necessary Roughness, Alpha House, The Lying Game and Nashville.

Acosta Lands Recurring Role on CBS’ Drama Series “Madam Secretary”

The Puerto Rican actor has signed on for a recurring role on CBS’ political drama series Madam Secretary.

Acosta will play Craig Sterling, President Dalton’s (Keith Carradine) confidant and ambitious new National Security Advisor, who threatens to undermine Secretary Elizabeth McCord’s (Tea Leoni) professional relationship with the President and her work in the State Department.

Acosta has recurred on Hand of God, Being Mary Jane, Secret Life of The American Teenager, Lauren and Hollywood Heights among others.

Martinez Lands Recurring Role on HBO’s “True Detective”

The Cuban-Puerto Rican actress has joined the cast of the upcoming season of HBO’s True Detective, which will also feature Adria Arjona.

Martinez, who stars opposite Mark Consuelos in Amazon StudiosAlpha House, will serve as a recurring actor on the second installment of the crime franchise.

The upcoming season revolves around three police officers (Colin Farrell, Taylor Kitsch and Rachel McAdams) and a career criminal (Vince Vaughn) who must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder.

Martinez plays Andrea, a Mexican-American immigrant who runs an inn.

She’s also a recurring actress on the CW’s Jane The Virgin. Her other television credits include Necessary Roughness, Nashville, Hollywood Heights, Breakout Kings and Southland.

Ponce Added to the Main Cast of ABC’s “Cristela”

The 41-year-old Puerto Rican singer/actor and telenovela star has joined the cast of ABC’s semi-autobiographical comedy project Cristela.

Co-created by rising stand-up comedian Cristela Alonzo, the series centers on Cristela (Alonzo), an American Latina straddling two cultures while not fully belonging to either.

No word yet on Ponce’s character in Cristela, which received a green light last month on what the network described as a “proof of concept” for the project.

In addition to Alonzo and Ponce, the main cast will also include Terri Hoyos, Roxana Ortega and Andrew Leeds. Meanwhile, newcomer Sarah Halford has landed a recurring role in the project.

Ponce’s English-language television credits include Hollywood Heights, Lipstick Jungle and 7th Heaven.

Ponce to Star in Nick at Nite’s “Hollywood Heights”

The 39-year-old Puerto Rican actor/singer has signed on to star in Nick at Nite’s Hollywood Heights—an adaptation of the 1990 Mexican telenovela Alcanzar una estrella, which starred Eduardo Capetillo and Mariana Garza.

Hollywood Heights centers on an adolescent girl named Loren who falls in love with a young rock star Eddie. Loren, played by Brittany Underwood, achieves her dream of becoming a singer-songwriter after winning a contest promoted by Eddie and, of course, romance ensues.

Ponce will play Eddie’s father in Hollywood Heights, which will be broadcast daily.

It’s the latest English-language role for Ponce, who most recently starred in Univision’s telenovela Dos hogares. He previously appeared in the film Couples Retreat and the television series 7th Heaven.
