Ice Spice is making an impact

The 23-year-old half-Dominican American rap sensation has been awarded the BMI Impact Award from Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI), during its 2023 R&B/Hip-Hop Awards held at LIV Nightclub Miami Beach.Ice SpiceIce Spice’s is the first time the Impact Award was given in the ceremony’s 23-year history.

The Bronx-based rapper/songwriter was recognized for her groundbreaking artistry, creative vision and impact on the future of music.

As one of the year’s biggest breakout stars, Ice Spice first exploded onto social media with her viral single “Munch.”

In just two years, she has had four Hot 100 Top 10 hits, and collaborated with the likes of Pink Pantheress, Nicki Minaj & Aqua and Taylor Swift, to name a few.

Ice Spice also has the most top-five singles on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart so far in 2023 and already collected numerous industry accolades.

The private event was hosted by BMI President & CEO Mike O’Neill and BMI Vice President, Creative, Atlanta, Catherine Brewton.

Trevi Signs with Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI)

Gloria Trevi has new representation when it comes to her music…

The 46-year-old Mexican singer has signed with Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) for representation of the public performances of her music catalog, according to Billboard.

Moving forward, BMI will represent Trevi’s complete catalog, according to her management. Trevi was formerly signed to Mexico’s Society of Authors and Composers (SACM), through a license with ASCAP.

Hailed as the  “Supreme Diva of Mexican Pop” by  VH1, Trevi is one of the most celebrated figures in Latin pop, both as a musical artist and as a personality with a career that spans 25 years. She has  sold more than 20 million records.

“She’s an amazing performer who exudes so much magic on stage. As a songwriter, she evokes raw emotion and transparency, which has connected her with her myriad of fans,” said Delia Orjuela, BMI’s vice president of Latin Music. “I’ve been a fan of Gloria’s for years and foresee her flourishing even more as her brand expands.”

Trevi’s brand includes A Toda Gloria, a reality television series on mun2, and an upcoming biopic titled simply Gloria.

A prolific touring artist, Trevi became famous in the 1990s thanks to her rebellious songs and attitude, earning her the nickname “Mexican Madonna.”

Pitbull Named Pop Songwriter of the Year

Call him a “songwriting sensation”… After all, he’s the most recent recipient of the BMI President’s Award… And, now Pitbull has picked up another prize for penning his inescapable hits.

The 31-year-old Cuban American rapper has been named one of three pop songwriters of the year at the BMI Pop Music Awards, handed out each year by the U.S. performing rights organization Broadcast Music Inc.

Pitbull shares the honor with American songwriter and producer Benny Blanco and American singer-songwriter Ester Dean.

Pitbull was singled out for writing five of the songs on the most-performed list: “DJ Got Us Fallin’ In Love,” “Give Me Everything,” “Hey Baby (Drop It to the Floor),” “I Like It” and “On the Floor.”

Meanwhile, Katy Perry’s “Firework” (co-written by Dean and Sandy Vee) was named the pop song of the year.

The 60th edition of the BMI Pop Awards took place this week at the Beverly Wilshire in Beverly Hills.
