DirecTV Renames Sanchez’s MMA-Themed Drama Series to “Kingdom”

The 37-year-old half-Puerto Rican actress’ new drama series for the direct broadcast satellite service provider and broadcaster will now be called Kingdom.

The upcoming 10-episode straight-to-series project, from creator Byron Balasco and Endemol Studios, was previously titled Navy St.

Itwill debut on October 8 at 9:00 pm on Audience Network.

Kingdom takes place in Venice, California and is set against the backdrop of Mixed Martial Arts.

Along with Sanchez, the series also stars Frank Grillo, Matt Lauria, Jonathan Tucker, Nick Jonas and Joanna Going.

Dawson’s “The Captive” to His U.S. Theaters This Fall

Rosario Dawson will keep movie audiences captive this fall…

A24, in partnership with DirecTV, has acquired the rights to The Captive, which stars the 35-year-old Puerto Rican and Afro-Cuban American actress.

Directed by Atom Egoyan, the film stars Ryan Reynolds as the father of a young girl who disappears fromtheir pick-up truck in a diner parking lot. The psychological thriller examines how the kidnapping destroys the relationships among those involved.

In addition to Reynolds and Dawson, who portrays the character of Nicole, the film also stars Scott Speedman, Mireille Enos, Kevin Durand and Bruce Greenwood.

“A24 is an extremely exciting company right now with a very smart vision of the future,” says Harold van Lier, president of eOne Films International. “Despite other serious offers on the table, they demonstrated the level of passion and commitment that we were looking for. We look forward to celebrating Atom’s film in Cannes with A24 and our other distribution partners around the world.”

A24 will release the film in the U.S. this fall.

Garcia’s Australian Six-Part Mini-Series “The Code” Going Global

Adam Garcia will be code-sharing throughout the world…

The 40-year-old half-Colombian actor’s six-part thriller The Code has landed distribution deals in the United Kingdom, the United States, Latin America and Denmark.

Produced by Australia’s Playmaker, the drama will have its premiere Down Under on ABC1 later this year.

The Code will also be broadcast in the UK by DCD, DirecTV in the U.S., Sundance Channel Latin America in Latin America and Denmark’s DR.

Set in the Australian outback, The Code centers on two very different brothers — one a journalist, the other a hacker — who unearth information that those at the highest levels of political power will kill to keep secret.

DirecTV acquired the series for Audience Network.

The Code was created by Shelley Birse and written by Birse, Blake Ayshford and Justin Monjo.

Garcia, who rose to acclaim in the U.S. after his role in Coyote Ugly, most recently appeared on CBSThe Crazy Ones and NBC’s Camp. He also served as the fourth judge on the 2013 Australian version of Dancing With The Stars.

Sanchez Joins the Cast of DirecTV’s MMA-Based Drama “Navy St.”

Well, it didn’t take Kiele Sanchez long to find her next television project…

The 37-year-old half-Puerto Rican actress is following up her four-season run on A&E’s The Glades with a role on DirecTV’s gritty drama series Navy St.

Sanchez, who is starring in the horror thriller The Purge: Anarchy later this year, and Nick Jonas have been added to the 10-episode original series from Byron Balasco and Endemol Studios.

The dark family drama is set against the backdrop of Navy Street, a Venice, California-based mixed martial arts (MMA) gym owned by Alvey Henderson (portrayed by Frank Grillo), a former fighter who never made it big due to a drug addiction but is now sober.

Sanchez will play Lisa Prince, Alvey’s long-time girlfriend.

Meanwhile, Jonas will play Nate Henderson, Alvey’s youngest son and the prized fighter at the gym, joining Jonathan Tucker who plays Alvey’s eldest son.

Filming is scheduled to begin in Los Angeles on May 5 for a fall premiere.
