Lisseth Chavez Promoted to Series Regular on ABC’s “The Rookie”

There’s more patrol time in Lisseth Chavez’s future…

The 34-year-old Salvadoran actress, who heavily recurred on Season 5 of The Rookie, has been promoted to series regular on the upcoming sixth season.

The Rookie, which recently celebrated its 100th episode, stars Nathan Fillion as John Nolan, Mekia Cox as Nyla Harper, Alyssa Diaz as Angela Lopez, Richard T. Jones as Sergeant Wade Grey, Melissa O’Neil as Lucy Chen, Eric Winter as Tim Bradford, Jenna Dewan as Bailey Nune, Shawn Ashmore as Wesley Evers and Tru Valentino as Aaron Thorsen.

The ABC series is created and executive produced by Alexi Hawley, along with executive producers Mark Gordon, Nathan Fillion, Michelle Chapman, Bill Norcross and Terence Paul Winter.

Entertainment One is the lead studio and international distributor of The Rookie, a co-production with ABC Signature, a part of Disney Television Studios.

The Rookie Season 6 premieres on Tuesday, February 20 at 9/8c on ABC.

Chavez was a series regular on The CW’s Legends of Tomorrow and NBC’s Chicago P.D. 

CBS Fast-Tracking the Roselyn Sanchez-Produced Drama “HSI: Puerto Rico”

CBS is accelerating development of HSI: Puerto Rico, a drama from the 48-year-old Puerto Rican actress, singer & producer and her actor-husband Eric Winter’s Two for the Road Entertainment and Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment, where Two for the Road is under a deal.

CBS has set up a writers room led by the project’s writer/executive producer Lisa Morales (Queen Sugar), which will be generating five scripts and a season one bible for a potential scripts-to-series order.

Like its other broadcast counterpart, CBS has been exploring other development paths and alternatives to the traditional development model, a process that was accelerated by the pandemic.

In HSI: Puerto Rico, eyed as a prospective CBS crime drama franchise, a passionate Homeland Security agent reluctantly returns home to Puerto Rico where she works with her talented but jaded training officer as part of an elite HSI team working tirelessly as the first line of defense against all manner of threats to the United States.

Sanchez and Winter executive produce via Two for the Road; Kaplan and Brian Morewitz executive produce for Kapital, which serves as the studio. Jessie Abbott is overseeing for Kapital.

Sanchez and Winter are series regulars on ongoing shows, ABC’s The Rookie and Fox’s Fantasy Islandrespectively.

Morales also served as showrunner of the CW’s Two Sentence Horror Stories anthology horror series.

Camille Guaty to Appear on ABC’s “The Rookie”

The Puerto Rican and Cuban American actress is set to appear in a multi-episode arc on ABC’s The Rookie.

Guaty will play Sandra De la Cruz, a businesswoman with nefarious connections who has been the target of a murder attempt.

Her character will be introduced in the Sunday, January 17 episode titled “La Fiera.”

Created by Alexi Hawley, The Rookie stars Nathan Fillion as John Nolan, the oldest rookie at the Los Angeles Police Department.

The series, which also stars Mekia Cox, Alyssa Diaz, Richard T. Jones, Titus Makin, Melissa O’Neil and Eric Winter, is produced by Entertainment One (eOne) and ABC Signature.

Guaty is known for her starring role on VH1’s dramedy series Daytime Divas, where she played Nina, an award-winning journalist and one of the five co-hosts on the popular talk show, “The Lunch Hour.”

She can most recently be seen guest starring on The Good Doctor, as well as in Netflix film Nappily Ever After, directed by Haiffaa Al Mansour, and A Futile and Stupid Gesture, a biopic on Doug Kennedy, the man who started National Lampoon, where Guaty plays his wife.

Foodie app Off the Menu, Beverly Center and DoorDash have announced the launch of a partnership called America’s Sweetest, a charitable bake sale to support the Epidermolysis Bullosa Medical Research Foundation (EBMRF).

The one-day initiative is scheduled for October 14 in honor of National Dessert Day, and it finds a roster of names teaming up with local eateries to create custom desserts.

Pre-order began on Oct. 9 with day-of pick up on October 14 available at Beverly Center or via DoorDash delivery throughout the Los Angeles area. Dessert boxes cost $125 each with proceeds donated directly to the EBMRF. Individual desserts will be also be made available at the eatery location the day of the event.

The lineup includes: Cox with Little Pine; Haylie Duff with Lou, the French on the Block; Longoria with Porto’s Bakery; Moynahan with Joan’s on Third; Olsen with Just What I Kneaded; Roselyn Sánchez and Eric Winter with Baked by ShaSha; John and Caitlin Stamos with Valerie Confections; and Sam and Aaron Taylor Johnson with Gjusta.

“We’re thrilled to have Off the Menu support EBMRF and create a program in America’s Sweetest we think can continue to grow over the years while sharing our mission of raising funds for this disorder,” said Andrea Joseph, who launched the foundation with husband Paul Joseph to help support research and finding a cure for the condition which their son Brandon has battled his entire life.

Added Off the Menu founder Lawrence Longo: “We know that food can act as a way to connect and educate people. We’re thrilled to be able to create an event like America’s Sweetest that will allow us to raise money for EBMRF while putting together a ‘care package’ that any food lover and especially those with a sweet tooth will obsess over.”

Imagined by Off The Menu, the initiative follows its Burger Showdown and Wing Showdown competitions held over the summer. As part of America’s Sweetest, Off the Menu will host videos from each celebrity participant on its website and platform.

Alyssa Diaz’s “The Rookie” to Address Police Brutality in Season 3

It looks like Alyssa Diaz’s art will imitate life in the near future. 

ABC’s police drama The Rookie, starring the 34-year-old part Colombian and Mexican actress, will address the issue of police brutality during its upcoming third season.

Show creator Alexi Hawley has brought in a number of experts to discuss the issues around policing in America in 2020, according to ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke.

“Alexi Hawley is a really thoughtful ally and partner and has been in the writers’ room for some time, already planning to address the current conversation going on around police work,” she tells Deadline.com. “I’m impressed with his thoughtfulness and leadership about hearing and adapting the current conversations to the storylines. It’s a diverse writers room and I’m hearing that the conversations going on in that room are inspired and give me hope that that show will address and not ignore the conversations around policing.”

In addition to Diaz, who portrays Angela Lopez, The Rookiealso stars Nathan Fillion as John Nolan, the oldest rookie in the LAPDMekia CoxRichard T. JonesTitus MakinMelissa O’Neil and Eric Winter.

The series is produced by Entertainment One (eOne) and ABC Studios.

Sanchez to Executive Produce English-Language Version of Her Hit Series “Familia En Venta”

Roselyn Sanchez is looking to bring her familia to English-speaking audiences.

The 42-year-old Puerto Rican actress/singer and Devious Maids star and her actor-husband Eric Winter have teamed to executive produce Familia En Venta, a single-camera half-hour comedy for Fox based on Fox International Channel’s 2014 Colombian series, which starred Sanchez.

Familia En Venta explores conscious uncoupling and marriage through the lens of the divorce of an affluent Hispanic family.

Aaron Serna (Cristela) will write the adaptation, with Ian Gurvitz (The Exes) supervising and serving as showrunner.

The original series, toplined by  Sanchez and Mexican actor-comedian Carlos Espejel, recently was nominated for an International Emmy Award for best comedy series. It aired on MundoFox in the U.S.

Familia En Venta

Following the show’s successful run in South America, Sanchez and Winter approached Fox International Channels about mounting an English-language version in the U.S.

The duo teamed with Brillstein Entertainment Partners, whose head of television Robyn Schwartz will executive produce Familia En Venta with them.

There are no plans for Sanchez to reprise her role as she stars in Lifetime’s Devious Maids, recently renewed for a fourth season.

Lifetime to Debut “Witches of East End,” Featuring Gonzalez, in October

Lifetime has announced plans to premiere its newest drama Witches of East End, which features the 37-year-old Mexican American actor, on October 6.

Gonzalez portrays Anthony Torcoletti on the series, which is based on Melissa de la Cruz’s highly popular novel of same name.

The series centers on the adventures of a mother (portrayed by Julia Ormond) and her two adult daughters, both of whom unknowingly are their family’s next generation of witches, who lead seemingly quiet, uneventful modern day lives in Long Island’s secluded seaside town of North Hampton. When one of the daughters becomes engaged to a young, wealthy newcomer, a series of events forces her mother to admit to her daughters they are, in fact, powerful and immortal witches.

Along with Gonzalez and Ormond, the series stars Jenna Dewan-Tatum, Eric Winter and Rachel Boston.
