Velazquez to Star in “The Charnel House”

Nadine Velazquez has closed on a House

The 36-year-0ld Puerto Rican actress will star opposite Callum Blue, Makenzie Moss and Erik LaRay Harvey in The Charnel House, a film that reunites Miss Meadows producers Sandra Siegal and Mark B Johnson.

From Siegal Entertainment and directed by Craig Moss, the film follows an accomplished British architect (Blue) who finally achieves his dream of converting the long-abandoned Fairmont Meat Company slaughterhouse into ultramodern lofts. His family and tenants will be exposed to a decades-long mystery that cannot be covered up by the building’s high-tech makeover.

Shooting on The Charnel House is currently underway in Cleveland.

Velazquez, who appeared on TNT’s Major Crimes, starred opposite Denzel Washington in Flight.

González Iñárritu to Receive Director of the Year Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival

Alejandro González Iñárritu may have a little extra spring in his step after his latest award… 

The 51-year-old Mexican film director will receive this year’s Director of the Year Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival‘s 26th annual Awards Gala on January 3.

Inarritu, who has said that Birdman is a semi-autobiographical project, has already received Golden Globe and Critics’ Choice nominations for his co-writing and direction of the project.

He previously received PSIFF‘s Director of the Year Award in 2007 for his work on Babel (2006).

Other previous recipients of the PSIFF prize include Steve McQueen for 12 Years a Slave (2013), Robert Zemeckis for Flight (2012), Stephen Daldry for Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close (2011), David O. Russell for The Fighter (2010), Jason Reitman for Up in the Air (2009), Sean Penn for Into the Wild (2007) and Alexander Payne for Sideways (2004).

“By creating the illusion that the film was shot in one take and directing award-worthy performances by Michael Keaton, Edward Norton, Emma Stone and a star-studded cast, Inarritu,” PSIFF chairman Harold Matzner said in a statement. “Inarritu has created a brilliant and original dark comedy.”

The film festival will run January 2-12.

Velazquez Starring in the Indie Film “Sister”

Nadine Velazquez has lander her own sister act…

The 34-year-old Puerto Rican actress has joined the cast of the indie drama Sister.

Inspired by true events, the story centers on a struggling, self-centered actor (portrayed by Reid Scott) forced to take custody of an 11-year-old adopted sister that he barely knows.

Velazquez, appearing in the second season of TNT’s Major Crimes, joins a cast that includes Illeana Douglas, Serinda Swan, John Heard and Barbara Hershey.

David Lascher is directing from a script he co-wrote with producer Todd Camhe.

Velazquez’s credits include television roles on Prison Break, My Name is Earl, Hart of Dixie and The League, as well as a breakout role in the film Flight with Denzel Washington.

Sister is currently filming in Los Angeles.

Velazquez Cast as a Series Regular on TNT’s “Major Crimes”

The 34-year-old Puerto Rican actress has joined the cast of TNT’s drama series Major Crimes as a series regular.

Velazquez, who starred opposite Denzel Washington in Flight last year, will portray deputy district attorney Emma Rios on the upcoming second season.

Newly assigned to the Phillip Stroh case on the spin-off of TNT’s hit series The Closer, Velazquez’s character Emma interviews Rusty (portrayed by Graham Patrick Martin) about his involvement as a key witness in the murder case. She immediately causes a stir within the department, coming into conflict with Captain Sharon Raydor (Mary McDonnell) when she questions Raydor’s intentions as Rusty’s guardian and challenges her authority.

Velazquez’s television credits include My Name Is Earl, Hart of Dixie, Raising Hope and recent recurring role on FX’s The League.

On the big screen, Velazquez recently appeared in Dwayne Johnson’s Snitch and will next star in Aztec Warrior.

The second season of Major Crimes will premiere on Monday, June 10 on TNT.

Caballero Receives Art Directors Guild Nod for “The Impossible”

Eugene Caballero is earning praise from his peers for his work on Juan Antonio Bayona’s The Impossible, about the 2004 tsunami…

The 42-year-old Mexican production designer, who won an Academy Award for Best Achievement in Art Direction in 2007 for his work on Guillermo del Toro’s Pan’s Labyrinth, has earned a nomination from the Art Directors Guild (ADG) for Excellence in Production Design for a Feature Film.

Caballero is nominated in the Contemporary Film category. He’s up against the production designers on Flight, Skyfall, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and Zero Dark Thirty.

The ADG’s black-tie ceremony announcing the winners in all nine categories will take place Saturday, February 2, 2013, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills with Paula Poundstone serving as host for the fourth consecutive year.

Bardem Receives Satellite Award Nod

He’s being hailed as one of the greatest villains in Bond history… And, now Javier Bardem is getting some awards recognition to go with it…

The 43-year-old Spanish actor has received a Satellite Award from the International Press Academy for his inspired role in the latest installment of the James Bond franchise, Skyfall.

Bardem is nominated in the Actor in a Supporting Role category. He’s up against some stiff competition: The Master’s Philip Seymour Hoffman, Silver Linings Playbook’s Robert De Niro, Flight’s John Goodman, Lincoln’s Tommy Lee Jones and Les Miserables’ Eddie Redmayne.

Meanwhile, Searching for Sugar Man, the documentary about 70-year-old Mexican American singer/songwriter Rodriguez is one of the eight nominated films in the Motion Picture, Documentary category. Last week the critically acclaimed film was nominated for a PGA Award in the same category by the Producers Guild of America.

Other Latinos nominated for a Satellite Award include Chilean cinematographer Claudio Miranda in the Cinematography category for his visually stunning work on Ang Lee’s Life of Pi and Spanish costume designer Paco Delgado in the Costume Design category for his work on the musical Les Miserables.

The 17th annual Satellite Awards cover a total of 31 film and TV categories. Winners will be announced during a gala on December 16 at the Intercontinental Hotel in Century City, California.

Nadine Velazquez’s career is taking flight

The 33-year-old Puerto Rican actress is starring in Flight, a film that not only had her sharing steamy screen time with Denzel Washington, but allowed her to fulfill one of her professional dreams.

In Flight, the story of a heroic pilot with a devastating secret, Velazquez portrays one of the flight attendants responsible for helping passengers during a plane crash.

“I always wanted to scream and cry and plead for my life in a movie, and this is my chance!” said the Chicago-born beauty.

Velazquez, best known for her role as Catalina Aruca on My Name is Earl, has appeared on The League and Hart of Dixie.

She, who discovered her love for acting as a little girl, began her professional career in a McDonald’s commercial playing a drive-thru lady.

From there her career took flight, with roles in films like War with Jason Statham, and the made-for-TV film Husband for Hire.

In Flight, Velazquez plays Katerina Marquez, the lover of Washington’s character, who works alongside Washington on a doomed flight after a night of sex, alcohol and very little sleep.

“The series My Name Is Earl made me known, but I think this movie will change the way the industry sees me,” said Velazquez, who hopes to use this opportunity to help Latinos break into the Hollywood limelight.
