Rivera Graces Cover of Rolling Stone’s “Latin Hot List” Issue

Rolling Stone’s male readers may experience serious heart palpitations, thanks to Naya Rivera.

The 26-year-old half-Puerto Rican singer/actress and Glee star – this year’s best-costumed Latina during the Halloween party period – bares plenty of skin all on the cover of Rolling Stone’s Latin Hot List issue.

Heralded as “Glee’s Bad Girl,” Rivera stripped down to a bodysuit for the cover, showing off her lengthy legs and an eyeful of cleavage.

Rivera, who’s featured on the flip cover of the issue, dished about her role on Fox’s hit musical dramedy and her ambitions of a music career.

“It took a long time to figure out where I wanted to go musically,” she said of her upcoming album, explaining that she insisted her label release “Sorry” as a single this summer. “This is what I’m doing,” she told the label, “Get on or get off. I think this is a summer song, and I want it on the radio by the end of the summer.”

Rolling Stone’s special Latino-themed issue also includes profiles on DJs the Martinez Brothers, novelist Daniel Alarcon, pop star Becky G, chef Danny Mena, rock star Draco Rosa, and Brooklyn-based band Williamsburg Salsa Orchestra.

Billboard Launches First Spanish-Language Title, Billboard Argentina

Billboard is now en español…

The international music magazine has debuted its first-ever Spanish-language edition with Billboard Argentina, which launched this week.

Billboard Argentina

The monthly, glossy publication will be Billboard’s 5th international property joining Brazil, Russia, South Korea and Japan.

Billboard Argentina, published by Sociedad de Editores ABC 1, will feature original content from Argentina as well as select Billboard charts and content from Billboard Magazine.

Jorge Arias and Hernán Simó, partners in Sociedad de Editores, will preside over the publication as CEO and Editor In Chief, respectively.

Unlike other music titles in Argentina like Rolling Stone, Billboard Argentina is dedicated 100% to music and geared toward the music fan, but it will also feature industry-leaning news.

The cover of the inaugural, 82-page edition is iconic Argentine rocker Charly Garcia, who sat down for an in-depth interview for the cover story, and the pages of the first issue include other artist features and reviews as well as industry analysis, including stories on Quincy Jones and Leo Fender and an interview with the president of Sony Argentina. The Billboard charts that run in the magazine include the Billboard 200, the Billboard Hot 100 and the Social 50.

Billboard Argentina printed 20,000 copies of its first issue, but Simó said plans call for double that number within the year.

Cannavale to Rock HBO’s Latest Project?

Bobby Cannavale may soon be rockin’ and rollin’ on HBO

The 43-year-old half-Cuban American actor is being recruited by Boardwalk Empire’s executive producers Martin Scorsese and Terence Winter to star in their next project at the premium cable network.

Bobby Cannavale

Cannavale, who served as a series regular on Boardwalk Empire in season three, is in talks to star in an untitled rock ‘n’ roll series, which Scorsese and Winter created with the Rolling StonesMick Jagger.

The project, which has been in the works at HBO since 2010, hasn’t been green-lighted yet but HBO is gearing up for an early 2014 shoot with Scorsese directing the pilot that was written by Winter.

The untitled rock ‘n’ roll project follows the exploits of Richie (Cannavale), a cocaine-fueled record exec in NYC circa 1977, when punk, disco and a new form of music called hip-hop collided.

Pitbull to Headline Rolling Stone’s Live Super Bowl Party

Pitbull is heading to the Super Bowl

The 32-year-old Cuban-American rap superstar is set to headline the Rolling Stone Live Super Bowl party next month in New Orleans, along with hip-hop artist Flo Rida.

Pitbull

It’s Rolling Stone magazine’s second time staging the Super Bowl party, which debuted successfully last year and featured LMFAO, Lupe Fiasco, the Gym Class Heroes and Cobra Starship.

This year’s party will be staged at the Wyndham Riverfront Hotel, which will be branded as the Bud Light Hotel over Super Bowl weekend.

“Rolling Stone Live” is a by-invitation-only party. But a limited number of general admission tickets will be made available, as well as a limited number of VIP tickets, that will give partygoers access to the Rolling Stone rock lounge where they can order from a special New Orleans-inspired menu and get complimentary drinks.

Rolling Stone‘s Super Bowl party is one of many events during Super Bowl weekend that feature A-list celebrities. Grammy Award-winning singer Fantasia Barrino is set to perform in the upcoming Super Bowl Gospel Celebration at the UNO Lakefront Arena on February 1, while Beyonce Knowles, Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland of Destiny’s Child will perform at the Super Bowl halftime show at the New Orleans Superdome on February 3.

The Rolling Stone Live Super Bowl party will be held on February 1.

Pitbull appears on a secondary cover, complete with the Rolling Stone nameplate and cover lines entirely en español on the back page of the magazine’s November 22 issue.

Pitbull’s cover opens to a 15-page special section, Latin Hot List, which features Hispanic artists,  musicians and luminaries like Puerto Rican rap group Calle 13, Pulitzer Prize-winning author Junot Díaz, Emmy-nominated actress Sofia Vergara and more.

“This section was an incredible opportunity for us to dive deep into Latin music and culture, from Pitbull to Café Tacuba,” said Nathan Brackett, Rolling Stone Deputy Managing Editor in a press release. “We are thrilled with the results.

The November 22 issue has articles written in English with interview sidebars in Spanish — and no translations.

Santana Planning to Release New Solo Instrumental Album

Carlos Santana isn’t just planning a two-year residency at Las Vegas’ House of Blues… He’ll soon be releasing a new solo instrumental album just two weeks after commencing his Vegas gig.

It’s the first of three albums the 64-year-old Mexican rock guitarist has planned for the near future.

Carlos Santana

Shape Shifter is the personal album,” he says of the disc that’ll be released on May 15. “One album will be a Santana band album. The other one is for my family, my new wife (Cindy Blackman) my brother Jorge. I’ll bring together my whole family, my new family, to do music in honor of the sacredness of the family. We can start in March, April and since we’re only working at night we can do sessions during the day (at Odds On Studio). It’s just a balance — recording and being onstage. We can do three, four, seven albums.”

House of Blues, which has never before presented a residency, will put about 45 shows in 2012 on sale on March 3. And, the venue is being reconfigured with seating and tables to replace the open space, taking capacity down to 1,200 from about 1,600.

“I like to do at least 50 percent” of the new album during the shows, he says before rattling off song titles from the new album — “Shape Shifter,” “Nomad,” “Dom,” “Never the Same Again.” “It’s for people who love ‘Caravanseri,’ ‘Europa,’ ‘Samba Pa Ti‘ — the instrumentals. A lot of people miss hearing the Mexican just playing his guitar. That’s a language that’s better than Swahili or English or Spanish. I haven’t done one in a long time.”

“Shape Shifter” is being billed as Santana’s 36th album in his career that began in the San Francisco Bay Area and erupted with a performance at Woodstock in 1969. Santana and the Rolling Stones are the only acts to have landed an album in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 in every decade since the 1960s.

Santana’s first Las Vegas residency ran from May 2009 to May 2011 at the Hard Rock‘s the Joint. He played 72 shows during that stint, which was billed as “Supernatural Santana: A Trip Through the Hits.” Santana is leaving the concept for his House of Blues run more fluid — he expects to welcome special guests and alter the middle of the show nightly. He has only prepared the opening and closing of the show, but he won’t give out song titles.

“I like to assault the senses so I have created three different kinds of intros — there’s a lot of power,” Santana said.  “There’s a lot to hit the ear. I call (the opening and closing segments) the doors — there’s the front door and the back door and the middle are the rooms. We can take it to rooms that we haven’t been in, we can discover spiritual romance inside the sheets so to speak.”

Santana’s opening night is May 2 with shows planned for May, June and September.

Saporta to Perform at Super Bowl Party…

It looks like Gabe Saporta will be getting a taste of Super Bowl XLVI next month…

The 32-year-old Uruguayan singer/songwriter, the lead singer of Cobra Starship, will be taking the stage at the Rolling Stone Super Bowl party in Indianapolis. Along with Saporta’s band, LMFAO, Gym Class Heroes and Lupe Fiasco will also perform during the star-studded event.

Gabe Saporta

“To have LMFAO and Cobra Starship on a bill for something like this, it’s genius because they are two bands who embrace the whole party thing,” Gym Class Heroes’ Travie McCoy tells Rolling Stone. “It’s definitely a party that if we weren’t playing, I’d hate to miss.”

Cobra Starship’s latest single “You Make Me Feel…” has sold more than a million downloads in the U.S. alone.

The Rolling Stone Super Bowl party will take place Saturday, February 4, at the Crane Bay in Indianapolis, one day before the big game.
