Rivera to Perform at “Concert for America: Stand Up, Sing Out!” on Inauguration Day

Chita Rivera is standing up and singing out…

The 83-year-old half-Puerto Rican actress, dancer, singer and Broadway star will be spending inauguration day at a concert in New York City raising money for human-rights organizations.

Chita Rivera

Rivera, the first Hispanic woman and the first Latino American to receive a Kennedy Center Honors award, will perform at the Concert for America: Stand Up, Sing Out!

The event will be held at The Town Hall in Manhattan on January 20. It’s intended to be the first in a series of monthly benefit concerts and will be streamed live on Facebook.

In addition to Rivera, a two-time Tony Award winner, the lineup includes Kelli O’Hara, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Betty Buckley, Jessie Mueller and Billy Porter.

Others slated to perform include Sharon Gless, Andrea Martin, Bebe Neuwirth, Rosie O’Donnell, Rosie Perez, Caroline Rhea, Stephanie Mills and Charles Busch.

The concert is the brainchild of Seth Rudetsky and James Wesley, who also organized the Broadway for Orlando fundraising concert.

Mueller, currently starring in Waitress, will reach back to her Tony Award-winning role as Carole King to sing “Beautiful.” She hopes its message of love and tolerance resonates.

“Hate comes from a lack of love, so we can’t fight it with more of its own toxicity; we have to fill it with love,” she said. “There are really big things at stake. Things we can’t save or solidify or safeguard alone. We have to think bigger, we have to ask for help, we have to reach out to one another and band together. I hope this concert can be an example of that.”

Proceeds will benefit groups that protect civil rights, women’s health and environmental protection, including Planned Parenthood, Southern Poverty Law Center, National Immigration Law Center and The Sierra Club Foundation. Tickets range from $25 to $50.

Miranda Takes Final “Hamilton” Bow

It’s the final curtain call for Lin Manuel-Miranda

The 36-year-old Puerto Rican actor, composer, rapper and writer took his final bows last night with the original cast of Hamilton, along with fellow departing stars Leslie Odom Jr. and Phillipa Soo in an emotional night at the Richard Rodgers Theatre.

Lin-Manuel Miranda's final Hamilton curtain call

After a few minutes, with no words spoken, the cast left the stage to the theme from The West Wing television series.

Javier Muñoz, Miranda’s alternate since the beginning of the journey Hamilton has taken from workshop to off-Broadway to its recent 11 Tony Award wins including Best Musical, takes over the title role beginning on Monday.

Among those in attendance for Miranda’s final performance, in which tickets ran upwards of $12,000 a seat, were Aaron Paul, Rosie O’Donnell, Secretary of State John Kerry, Mariska Hargitay, Edward Norton and Jennifer Lopez, who recorded a charity single with Miranda to benefit the victims of the Orlando Shooting.

A video of the final curtain call was posted on the Hamilton: An American Musical Facebook page.

Perez Makes Her Debut on a High-Rated Premiere Episode of ABC’s “The View”

Rosie Perez has taken her seat at the table and her place in television history…

The 49-year-old Puerto Rican actress, dancer and community activist, who was announced as the newest member of ABC’s The View, made her debut on the daytime talker on Monday as the show’s first-ever Latina co-host.

Rosie Perez on The ViewPerez is considered the panel’s most under-the-radar addition despite being an Oscar, Emmy and Golden Globe nominee. She served as a guest host on The View in February. And she’s been a guest on Rachel Maddow’s MSNBC program, formerly executive-produced by Bill Wolff, the ABC talker’s new executive producer.

Monday’s premiere, which also saw the return of the polarizing Rosie O’Donnell registered 3.902 million viewers — the show’s biggest opening audience in eight years — which is also the time when O’Donnell joined the show the first time back in 2006.

Monday’s opening was the long-running show’s second-biggest opening on record and hit a three-year high in target demos of women 18-49 and 25-54 with year-to-year opening leaps of 15% and 20%, respectively. In the younger demo, Monday’s debut logged 683,000 viewers and in the older it posted 911,000.

In addition to the two Rosies, former Republican political operative Nicolle Wallace also joins the The View. Whoopi Goldberg, meantime, is the only returning host from last season.

Wallace and Perez replaced Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy.

Perez to Serve as the First-Ever Latina Co-Host on ABC’s Long-Running “The View”

Rosie Perez is changing the view on television… And, she’s making history in the process.

The 49-year-old Puerto Rican actress, dancer and community activist will join ABC’s The View when it returns for its eighteenth season on September 15.

rosie-perez-red

Perez, who is set to appear on Broadway early next year in Larry David’s Fish in the Dark, becomes the first-ever Latina host in the daytime talk show’s history.

“Excited to be a part of an amazing show and a great team of women,” tweeted the Oscar-nominated actress after the announcement was made.

In addition to Perez, political commentator Nicolle Wallace will also join The View next season. A former communications director for George W. Bush, she appeared on the daytime talker last month as a guest co-host.

The women join a show with a very different makeup following the recent exits of Barbara Walters, Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy. Whoopi Goldberg is the only member from the previous season returning, while Rosie O’Donnell is coming back to the show after having held a seat in the 2006-2007 season.

The View has generally had five women in the mix, though Walters was not featured in every episode during her final years on the show.

Gonzalez Among the Frontrunners to Join ABC’s “The View”

It looks like October Gonzalez may be sharing her view(s) with the world…

Gonzalez, the wife of retiring football star Tony Gonzalez is reportedly one of the frontrunners to join Whoopi Goldberg and Rosie O’Donnell on ABC’s The View when the daytime talk show returns in September.

Tony & October Gonzalez

Gonzalez, who famously posed naked with her husband for PETA to discourage fur wearing, was among the prospects that ABC chemistry-tested Thursday on the set of The Chew before a test audience.

If selected to serve on the panel, the self-described “Mommy, Wife, Sister, blogger and love of life” would become the show’s first Latina to co-host the daytime talker.

“It’s all speculation at this point — we don’t have any announcement; no decisions have been made,” a rep for The View told Deadline.com.

Gonzalez and the other semi-finalists have done practice rounds with Goldberg and O’Donnell for the express purpose of chem-testing them to reach some conclusions as to how to best cast a new panel that includes the two hosts who are set to return — O’Donnell after a several-season break.

Other contenders include MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace, CNN Crossfire’s S.E. Cupp, CNN contributing legal analyst Sunny Hostin, CNN political contributor Ana Navarro, Bloomberg TV managing editor Stephanie Ruhle; ESPN anchor Sage Steele, ESPN.com columnist Jemele Hill, and Good Day LA co-host Lauren Sanchez.

Show producers are reportedly searching for their first Latina as well as a more conservative voice to join the panel – a seat once filled by Fox and Friends co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck.

Hilton Announces Birth of His First Child…

He may be the self-proclaimed “Queen of All Media”… But Perez Hilton will be just “Dad” to his newborn child…

The 34-year-old Cuban American blogger and television personality announced on Wednesday  the birth of his son, whose name has yet to be revealed.

Perez Hilton & Newborn Son

Hilton wrote on his website, “Dear Friends, I want you to hear this directly from me, right here. I am ready to announce that earlier this month I was blessed with the birth of my first child, a beautiful and healthy baby boy – with lots of hair on his tiny head!”

The surprise revelation came with a photo of him holding his son, who was wrapped in white blanket and wearing a striped hat.

Hilton expressed his happiness, saying, “I am so humbled to welcome this little man into my life. And I am honored and ready for the challenge of guiding him through his. My family is overjoyed at this newest and most cherished addition.” He also thanked fans for the well wishes.

Some celebrities who congratulated the new father via Twitter were Ricky Martin, Rosie O’Donnell and Paris Hilton, who wrote: “Congratulations on your new son. Such exciting news. So happy for you!”

Hilton didn’t reveal whether the baby was adopted or was born via surrogate mother. The blogger who openly declared that he was gay was spotted shopping for baby products in January.

Meet Caesar Rivera: Rosie’s PA-Turned-Show-Stealer

Rosie O’Donnell better watch out! She’s facing some stiff competition in the talk show department at the OWN network… And, it’s coming from inside the elevator.

Meet Caesar Rivera, a production assistant on O’Donnell’s The Rosie Show.

The Rosie Show Caesar Rivera

Rivera, who studied film & video production at Columbia College Chicago, has transformed an elevator at Harpo Studios into the set of his very own talk show.

He’s even created his own logo, interview cards and mug for his cleverly titled show, Up & Down with Caesar. And he’s already scored some big name guests, including Andy Dick, Tracy Morgan and Leisha Hailey.

So what’s Rivera’s method of preparing for his next elevator confessional? “Doing nothing and expecting something!”

It looks like Rivera’s career is headed up, up and away… to the top floor.

Carey Reveals Her Post-Baby Body…

It’s hard to believe Mariah Carey gave birth just six months ago, especially after seeing her on the cover of Us Weekly

The 41-year-old part-Venezuelan songstress—who gave birth to twins Moroccan and Monroe in late April, who now have a dedicated website—shows off her slim physique and oh-so-toned stomach on the cover of  this week’s issue of the celebrity news and gossip magazine.

Mariah Carey Us Weekly Cover

“I gained an enormous amount of weight,” the Grammy-winning superstar tells Us of giving birth to her son and daughter on April 30—on her third anniversary of her wedding to Nick Cannon.

So how did Carey lose the baby weight? Starting in July, she began working with a nutritionist to create a 1,500-calorie-a-day menu. And, she partnered with Jenny (formerly Jenny Craig) to create a three-times-per-week workout plan.

“I feel incredible,” says Carey, just three months after beginning her body transformation. “It was a huge blessing to be able to have the babies, but I felt trapped in my body because I couldn’t move.”

Mariah-Carey-and-Rosie

During a recent appearance on The Rosie Show, Carey—looking fierce in a black mini and leather jacket—opened up about her first week on the Jenny diet plan.

“It was just water, initially,” Carey told show host Rosie O’Donnell. “When I started with the program, I lost at least 30 lbs. of weight that needed to be lost.”

Carey says she never weighed herself while shedding the pounds.

“I would tend to go, ‘Does this size dress fit me that I wore three years ago? I’m good, let’s go,’” recalled Carey. “I would go by what it looked like, how I felt.”

And by the grin on her face on that Us cover, it’s easy to see she’s pleased with the results!
