Antonio Banderas to Receive International Star Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival

Antonio Banderas is a shining star… 

The 59-year-old Spanish actor will receive the 31st annual Palm Springs International Film Festival’s International Star Award, Actor for his performance in Pedro Almodovar’s Pain and Glory

“Throughout his career Antonio Banderas has garnered international acclaim and world recognition from his memorable performances,” said Festival Chairman Harold Matzner. “In his latest film Pain and Glory, Antonio Banderas gives another deeply moving performance as aging film director Salvador Mallo going through a creative crisis as he reflects on the choice’s he’s made throughout his life.”

Banderas, who recently earned a Goya Award nomination for his performance in Pain and Glory, will join the previously announced honorees Jennifer Lopez (Spotlight Award), Joaquin Phoenix (Chairman’s Award), Martin Scorsese Sonny Bono Visionary Award), Charlize Theron( International Star Award, Actress) and Renée Zellweger(Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actress).

From Sony Picture Classicsand presented by El DeseoPain and Glory tells of a series of reencounters experienced by Salvador Mallo, a film director in his physical decline. Some of them in the flesh, others remembered.

The award will be presented at the festival’s Film Awards Galaon Thursday, January 2 at the Palm Springs Convention Center.

The festival runs January 2-13, 2020.

Ismael Cruz Córdova to Star in the Period Drama “Mary, Queen of Scots”

Great Scots! Ismael Cruz Córdova has landed a new role…

The 30-year-old Puerto Rican actor has joined the cast of Working Title and Focus Features’ period drama Mary, Queen of Scots.

Josie Rourke is directing the film from a script by Beau Willimon, with Saoirse Ronan and Margot Robbie starring.

The story explores the turbulent life of the charismatic Mary Stuart (Ronan), Queen of France at 16 and widow at 18 who defies pressure to remarry. Instead, she returns to her native Scotland to reclaim her rightful throne, but Scotland and England fall under the rule of the compelling Elizabeth I.

Cordova will play the role of Rizzio, Mary’s confidant.

Production is underway in England and Scotland.

Cordova recently had a standout performance as the troubled boxer Hector Campos on Season 4 of Showtime’s Ray Donovan. He recently wrapped his role as the male lead opposite Gina Rodriguez in the Catherine Hardwicke-helmed remake Miss Bala and also appeared in Ang Lee’s Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk.

Cinedigm has released the trailer for the action-comedy-drama Violet & Daisy, which stars the 31-year-old half-Argentinean American actress and Saoirse Ronan.

Bledel, who recently announced her engagement to her former Mad Men co-star Vincent Kartheiser, and Ronan star as a pair of hit girls swept up in intrigue surrounding their latest target (portrayed by James Gandolfini).

Violet & Daisy

Bledel portrays the volatile character of Violet in the film.

Precious writer Geoffrey Fletcher penned and directed the 2011 Toronto Film Fest entry.

Cinedigm is planning on a June release, but has yet to lock down a specific date.

Pinto Appears on “The Host” Soundtrack

Antonio Pinto is sharing his soul outside with the world…

The 46-year-old Brazilian film score composer appears on the soundtrack to the film adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s novel The Host.

Pinto opens the film’s 10-track soundtrack, which has been titled The Host: Choose to Listen, with his instrumental theme “Soul Outside.”

Pinto’s previous film credits include Journey to the End of the Night, Central Station, Snitch and Love in the Time of Cholera.

Interscope RecordsKIDinaKORNER imprint will release the soundtrack on March 26.

The Host, starring Saoirse Ronan, Max Irons and Jake Abel, will open nationwide on March 29.
