Cantillo to Star in “Chappie”

Following a come to Elysium moment, Jose Pablo Cantillo is heading back to the dark side…

The 34-year-old Costa Rican-American actor has joined the cast of Neill Blomkamp‘s next feature film, Chappie.

The film follows a robot with artificial intelligence who is kidnapped by gangsters planning on using him for evil.

Cantillo, best known for portraying Hector Salazar on FX‘s Sons of Anarchy and Ceasar Martinez on AMC’s The Walking Dead, will play a gangster named Yankie who hopes to use the robot for his own gain.

During the third season of The Walking Dead, Cantillo portrayed one of the Governor’s (David Morrissey) loyal henchmen.

He also appeared in Blomkamp’s most recent film, Elysium, starring Matt Damon. He portrayed a resident of Earth who operates on Damon’s character and then helps him kidnap a member of Elysium so they can hijack their way to the exclusive space station.

Cantillo will next appear in the indie film Solace opposite Anthony Hopkins and Colin Farrell.

Chappie, which will also star Sharlto Copley as the voice of the robot, is scheduled to be release on March 27, 2015.

Alonzo Receives Script Commitment from ABC for Her Sitcom “Cristela”

Cristela Alonzo is television-bound…

ABC has given the 34-year-old rising Mexican American standup comedian/actress a script commitment with a sizable penalty, reportedly in the six figures, for the half-hour multi-camera comedy she co-created as a starring vehicle.

Entitled Cristela, the project, inspired by Alonzo’s life, is the story of an American Latina (portrayed by Alonzo) straddling two cultures while not fully belonging to either.

Alonzo will co-write the script with writer-producer Kevin Hench.

20th Century Fox Television and 21 Laps/Adelstein will produce the series.

Alonzo, originally from the south Texas border town of San Juan, has appeared on Conan, Live At Gotham and Last Comic Standing.

She made her acting debut on FX’s Sons Of Anarchy. And Alonzo’s first stand-up special, The Half Hour, recently premiered on Comedy Central.

Smits’ “Sons of Anarchy” to Premiere in September

Jimmy Smits will be causing all sorts of anarchy this September…

FX has announced plans to launch the sixth season of its top-rated drama Sons of Anarchy, featuring the 58-year-old actor reprising his role as Neron “Nero” Padilla.

In February, FX confirmed reports that Smith, who earned a Critics’ Choice Awards nomination in the Best Guest Performer in a Drama Series category for his acclaimed role, would be reprising his role on the biking drama series.

Sons of Anarchy is a high-octane drama with darkly comedic undertones that centers on the lives of a close-knit outlaw motorcycle club operating in Charming, a fictional town in California’s Central Valley.

It explores the notorious outlaw motorcycle club’s quest to protect its livelihood while ensuring that their simple sheltered town remains untainted by confronting threats from drug dealers, corporate developers and overzealous law officers.

The premiere episode, running 90-minutes, will air on FX on September 10 at 10:00 pm ET/PT. The series will continue to run on Tuesdays.

Smits Earns Critics’ Choice Television Award Nomination for His “Sons of Anarchy” Role

It’s no wonder Jimmy Smits is returning for the next season of Sons of Anarchy… His role as Neron “Nero” Padilla has earned some serious praise.

The 57-year-old Puerto Rican actor has earned a Critics’ Choice Television Award nomination in the Best Guest Performer in a Drama Series category for his performance on FX’s biker drama.

Smits starred in 12 of Sons of Anarchy’s 13 episodes last season. And, he’s set to appear in all episodes next season.

It’s the first Critics’ Choice Television Award nomination for the former West Wing star and Golden Globe and Emmy-winning actor.

Meanwhile, Louis C.K. continues to earn critical love…

The 45-year-old Mexican American actor/comedian has been nominated in the Best Actor in a Comedy Series category for his role on FX’s Louie, a show he created.

In addition, his series in nominated for Best Comedy Series. The show is up against The Big Band Theory, The Middle, New Girl, Parks and Recreation and Veep.

The awards will be handed out June 10 at the Beverly Hilton.

Fernandez Lands Role on NBC’s “Revolution” Drama

Ramon Fernandez is preparing for a revolutionary role…

The Madrid-born actor of Puerto Rican descent has signed on for a potential recurring role on NBC’s post-apocalyptic drama Revolution.

Fernandez will portray Capt. Franklin, a trusted soldier in Monroe’s inner circle, in the series that co-stars Daniella Alonso and JD Pardo.

Fernandez’s television credits include appearances on Sons of Anarchy, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, CSI: Miami, Southland and Cold Case. He also lent his voice to the Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City video game.

Smits Returning to FX’s “Sons of Anarchy” Next Season

It looks like Jimmy Smits’ biker days aren’t over yet…

The 57-year-old Puerto Rican actor will reprise his role as Neron “Nero” Padilla on the upcoming sixth season of FX’s Sons of Anarchy.

Smits, appeared as the former gangbanger in 12 of Anarchy’s 13 episodes last season, has signed on to appear in all of the episodes next season.

The Emmy-winning actor most recently wrapped up a successful run in Motherf**ker With The Hat at Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theatre.

Sons of Anarchy is the highest-rated series ever on FX, and its recent fifth season ranks as the series’ highest-rated yet with first-run episodes averaging 6.37 million total viewers.

The sixth season of Sons of Anarchy is shaping to be even more intense and volatile than the last.

Production is set to begin in late spring for the show’s September premiere.

Navarro to Guest Star on “Sons of Anarchy”

Dave Navarro will soon be carving his way onto FX’s most-watched drama…

The 45-year-old Mexican American guitarist will guest star in the last two episodes of Sons of Anarchy this season.

Navarro, who plays in Jane’s Addiction and cover band Camp Freddy, will portray a member of the Biz Lats gang with close ties to Jimmy Smit’s character Nero.

In addition to joining the motorcycle club, Navarro and his band Jane’s Addiction will perform a cover of “Sympathy for the Devil” for this season’s finale.

Rodriguez to Star in the Punk-Rock Indie Film “CBGB”

Freddy Rodriguez will soon be helping shine a spotlight on New York City’s punk-rock scene.

The 37-year-old Puerto Rican actor has joined the growing cast of CBGB, a film that will take a look at the Big Apple’s venerable nightclub of the same name.

The former Six Feet Under and Ugly Betty star will appear as Idaho, an addict who hung around Hily Kristal’s infamous New York City club in the 1970s.

Rodriguez—who will be starring in the upcoming John Stockwell-directed drama Code Name Geronimo, which centers on the hunt for Osama bin Laden—is scheduled to start work on CBGB next week.

Randall Miller is writing and directing the indie film about the club that saw the birth of American punk rock with bands like The Ramones, Blondie, Television and the Dead Boys on its tiny stage.

Sons of Anarchy’s Ryan Hurst has also joined the cast as a biker named Mad Mountain who is a regular at the club and provides Hily Kristal with some much need help when the CBGB owner. Alan Rickman will play CBGB proprietor Kristal.

Malin Akerman is set to play Blondie’s lead singer Debbie Harry. Twilight Saga’s Ashley Greene will play Kristal’s daughter. The Hangover’s Justin Bartha will play Stiv Bators, lead singer of the Dead Boys. The Big Bang Theory’s Johnny Galecki is playing band manager Terry Ork. Foo Fighters’ drummer Taylor Hawkins is playing Iggy Pop. And Harry Potter’s Rupert Grint will play Dead Boys guitarist Cheetah Chrome.

The film is shooting in Savannah, Ga., before moving to NYC.

de Jesus to Guest Star on “Sons of Anarchy”

Wanda de Jesus is about to raise a little anarchy…

The 53-year-old Puerto Rican-American has been cast in a multiple-episode arc on the upcoming season of Sons Of Anarchy.

de Jesus will play Carla, a smart and sexy associate of Nero, who will be played by her longtime off-screen love interest Jimmy Smits. As previously announced, Smits will appear on the fifth season of FX’s hit biker drama as Neron “Nero” Padilla, a Latino gangbanger with an exit strategy who becomes a dangerous mentor for Jax (Charlie Hunnam).

de Jesus has previously appeared as a guest star on CSI: Miami, as well as the mayor of Pine Valley on All My Children. She’s most recognized for her role as Santana Andrade on NBC’s soap opera Santa Barbara.

He may have played a detective on NYPD Blue… But Jimmy Smits’ next role will take him to the dark side.

The 56-year-old half-Puerto Rican actor has signed on for a season-long arc on Sons of Anarchy, FX’s dark biker drama.

Smits will play Neron “Nero” Padilla, a Latino gangbanger with an exit strategy who becomes a dangerous mentor for Charlie Hunnam’s character Jax. The character of Nero is envisioned to be heavily tattooed and extremely dark.

Previously, Smits has previously starred in LA Law, for which he won an Emmy, He’s also stated in The West Wing and Outlaw.
