“Star Trek 3,” Starring Saldaña, to be Released in July 2016

Zoë Saldaña is ready to trek back into theaters in July 2016…

Paramount Pictures has scheduled the latest installment of the Star Trek reboot, starring the 36-year-old half-Dominican/half-Puerto Rican American actress, for release on July 8, 2016. The film will be released ahead of the 50th anniversary of the classic show.

Zoë Saldaña

The original series of Star Trek was first broadcast in September 1966 on NBC, after an unsuccessful pilot was made a couple of years earlier. The show ran for three years and spawned several spin-offs and a series of movies.

Saldaña will reprise her role as Nyota Uhura in the third installment of this latest Star Trek film franchise. She appeared in 2009’s Star Trek and its sequel Star Trek Into Darkness (2013).

Star Trek 3 will be directed by Justin Lin.

Orci to Take the USS Enterprise Crew ‘Deep in Space’ in “Star Trek 3”

Roberto Orci is ready to go “deep in space.”

The 40-year-old Mexican film and television writer, producer and director, who will direct Star Trek 3, says the crew of the USS Enterprise will explore a new world in the next installment of the film franchise.

Roberto Orci

Orci said on the Humans from Earth podcast that the next film will take place “deep in space,” unlike J.J. AbramsStar Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness, which he co-wrote.

“In [Into Darkness] they set out finally where the original series started,” he explained. “The first two films – especially the 2009 [Star Trek] – was an origin story. It was about them coming together. So they weren’t the characters they were in the original series. They were growing into them and that continues on in the second movie. So in this movie they are closer than they are to the original series characters that you have ever seen. They have set off on their five-year mission. So their adventure is going to be in deep space.”

When asked about what alien might be seen in the upcoming third entry, Orci still played it coy as quoted by Badass Digest, “The Horta is actually the villain in the next one – no – they are in deep space now, so let’s see what’s out there.”

Of the possibility of having a gay character, he said, “It can be part of a character and not be the whole shebang…It doesn’t have to be like South Park, like ‘what have we learned today.’ It can be so normalized that it just exists. I agree it can’t be shoe-horned in. And it is not necessary for it to be the whole point of the thing. It is an ensemble and there is lots of people to represent so no one point of view should hog it.”

Star Trek 3 is slated for 2016.

Orci Reportedly In Talks to Helm the Next “Star Trek” Film

Roberto Orci may boldly go where J.J. Abrams has gone before…

The 40-year-old Mexican American film and television writer and producer is reportedly the clear frontrunner to replace J.J. Abrams as the director of the third installment of Paramount’s Star Trek series.

Roberto Orci

Following what it calls “an aggressive lobbying campaign,” Deadline.com reports that Orci and Paramount Pictures are in talks.

Orci was a co-writer and producer on 2009’s Star Trek and it’s 2013 sequel Star Trek Into Darkness.

The news comes after Orci parted company with longtime partner Alex Kurtzman on film projects; they still continue to work on television projects together, including Sleepy Hollow and El Rey Network’s upcoming series El Matador.

It would Orci’s first time in the director’s chair, although he has plenty of experience on massive projects beyond Star Trek, including The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Ender’s Game and Cowboys & Aliens.

Abrams had helmed the first two Star Trek films, but surprised Paramount officlas by agreeing to relaunch the Star Wars franchise and direct the first film at Disney.

Bejo Takes Best-Dressed Latina Title Again at the Golden Globes

Bérénice Bejo has made a red-hot return to the Golden Globe Awards red carpet…

The 37-year-old Argentine actress and former nominee, who wowed in her first appearance on the Globes red carpet last year, looked simply irresistible at this Sunday’s event, earning Best-Dressed Latina honors for the second year in a row.

Berenice Bejo

Bejo, at the awards show to support her latest film, The Past, and its Best Foreign Language Film nomination, wore a red Giambattista Valli gown complete with floral embellishments to this year’s show.

Sofia Vergara

Four-time Golden Globes nominee Sofia Vergara may not have taken home the Best Supporting Actress in a Series, Miniseries or TV Movie for the fourth straight year. But that didn’t stop the 41-year-old Colombian bombshell and Modern Family star from making her mark on the red carpet.

Vergara wore a black strapless Zac Posen gown with a sweetheart bodice and a full skirt that envelopes the carpet. She finished off her look with a turquoise necklace and soft locks.

Celebrity hairstylist Harry Josh wanted to give the star a classically simple yet chic blowout. “We wanted to keep Sofia looking modern and fresh and a chic, luxurious blowout lent her that,” he said.

Zoe Saldana

Star Trek Into Darkness star Zoë Saldaña, a presenter at this year’s show, walked down the red carpet in a black gown from Prabal Gurung‘s spring 2014 collection. The dress featured hand-embroidered Swarovski crystals and painted brush strokes.

Rocsi Diaz

Entertainment Tonight correspondent Rocsi Diaz covered the action on the red carpet in a cream and white ruffle-paneled dress.

Saldaña to Star in Miles Davis Biopic from Don Cheadle

There’s no doubt Zoë Saldaña is pretty jazzed about her next project…

The 35-year-old half-Dominican/half-Puerto Rican American actress has joined the cast of Kill the Trumpet Player, Don Cheadle‘s project about legendary jazz pioneer Miles Davis.

Zoe Saldana

Cheadle will play the late musician and work behind the lens in his directorial debut. The long-delayed biopic will follow “the virtuoso, fighter and genius as he bursts out of his silent period and conspires with a Rolling Stone writer to steal his music back.”

Saldaña will portray Frances Davis, the former wife of the trumpet player in the film, which has received financing from BiFrost Pictures.

Meanwhile, Ewan McGregor will play a Rolling Stone reporter in the film.

Cheadle also co-wrote the script with Steven Baigelman to explore the story of a few dangerous days in Davis’ life. The late star’s collaborator Herbie Hancock is confirmed to be involved in the project as well.

Cheadle said at the American Film Market that the movie wouldn’t be a traditional biopic.

“Let’s kill that term, OK? I hope with this film we can kill the biopic. This film won’t try to give a broad overview of Davis’ life and give short shrift to this man’s story,” he said. “For us as creative people, the time of his life that was most interesting was the five years when he wasn’t playing, when he was silent. What was going on in his mind? And how did he come out of it and return to music?”

Production is expected to begin next summer.

No release date has been set in stone.

It’s the latest movie-themed project for Saldaña…

Last year, the Star Trek Into Darkness was cast to portray songstress Nina Simone in a biopic about the legendary singer.

Orci In Talks to Write the Next Star Trek Film…

Roberto Orci will be trekking into familiar territory…

The Mexican-American film and television writer and producer and his business partner Alex Kurtzman are in talks to pen the next Star Trek outing for Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions.

Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci

Orci and Kurtzman co-wrote the previous two installments for director J.J. Abrams, who is in negotiations to produce Star Trek 3 through his Bad Robot production company. Damon Lindelof also shared writing credit on this summer’s Star Trek Into Darkness. Sources say Lindelof will not be back for the third chapter of the rebooted franchise.

Though the project is shrouded in secrecy, much like Star Trek Into Darkness was, reports have surfaced in recent weeks that the studio would tap new writers. Rumors swirled that other young writing teams were being courted for their takes. But Paramount shifted gears recently and is returning to the duo that breathed new life into the moribund franchise. The tricky part was getting Kurtzman and Orci to find a gap in their schedules to write. In addition to their growing TV empire, they have been busy on the film front as part of their two-year first-look deal with Universal Pictures that has them rebooting The Mummy and Van Helsing.

The next Star Trek film is untitled and unscheduled, but Paramount and Skydance are eager to continue the franchise, which will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2016. Stars Chris PineZachary Quinto and Zoe Saldana are expected to return.

The 31-year-old part-Mexican American television personality, fashionista and Fashion Star celebrity mentor has officially joined Style.com as a contributor.

The feature uses the “tastemaker-curated, city-guide” style of content popular on websites like Forbes.com and upscale mom’s guide ElizabethStreet.com. Each of its 60 Style Map contributors will have complete control over their own blog posts.

One of Richie’s first posts: a 186-word homage to Pressed Juicery, the growing natural beverage chain that was launched by her “close friends” in 2010.

In addition to Richie, other Style Map contributors include New York Knicks center Tyson Chandler, Courtney Love, actress Rose Byrne and Star Trek Into Darkness actor Zachary Quinto.

“We’re providing the framework,” Style.com editor-in-chief Dirk Standen tells The Hollywood Reporter. “We’ve provided guidelines and obviously we will give people feedback and sort of advise them on what we think works. But we’re not going to be editing their words. This is meant to be about them. We have to give up a little bit of control, in a way.”

del Toro Eyeing Benedict Cumberbatch for “Frankenstein” Role

Guillermo del Toro has set his sites on a Star Trek-sized leading man for his next big project…

In an interview with The Daily Telegraph, the 48-year-old Mexican filmmaker divulged that he’d like to direct British actor Benedict Cumberbatch in his reimaging of Frankenstein, which is currently slated for release in 2015.

Guillermo del Toro

Cumberbatch recently garnered rave reviews for his portrayal of Khan in Star Trek Into Darkness, in which he starred opposite Zoë Saldaña.

del Toro’s Frankenstein project has been in the works since 2009, and he hasn’t attached any cast yet. Considering that he’s wanted Hellboy actor Doug Jones to play the monster for years, Cumberbatch would most likely portray Dr. Victor Frankenstein, the role he already played in the 2011 stage production of Frankenstein directed by Danny Boyle.

del Toro will work with Cumberbatch in Crimson Peak, the upcoming horror thriller from Universal Pictures. Set for release in April 2015, the film will also star Charlie Hunnam, Jessica Chastain and Mia Wasikowska.

del Toro is currently busy promoting Pacific Rim, which opened this Friday, on July 12.
