Al Madrigal Joins Cast of HBO Max’s “Clone High”

Al Madrigal’s career is hitting a (clone) high note…

The 51-year-old half-Mexican American actor has joined the cast of Clone HighHBO Max’s upcoming revival of the classic MTV series from Phil Lord, Chris Miller and Bill Lawrence.

Returning voice cast includes Will Forte reprising his role as Abe; Nicole Sullivan as Joan; Lord as Scudworth; Chris Miller as JFK and Mr. B; Christa Miller voicing a new character, Candide Sampson; Donald Faison back as George Washington Carver; and Judah Miller as Scangrade.

Dubbed a “modern refresh” of the 2002 animated series, the follow-up is set at a high school for clones of historical figures. After a high school that was secretly being run as an elaborate military experiment to clone the greatest minds in history was put on ice, the clones have been thawed out 20 years later to resume the experiment with new clone classmates – all while navigating a new set of cultural norms and overly dramatic teen relationships.

Of the core characters in the original series, Abe, Joan (of Arc), JFK, Mr. B and Scudworth are back voiced by the same actors; Gandhi, who was voiced by Michael McDonald, is not featured in the reboot, and Cleo, who was originally voiced by Christa Miller, will now be voiced by Iranian-American actor Mitra Jouhari.

In addition to Madrigal, who will portray Federico, the series’ new voice cast also includes Ayo Edebiri as Harriet; Vicci Martinez as Frida; Kelvin Yu as Confucius; Neil Casey as Topher Bus; Jana Schmieding as Sacagawea; Sam Richardson as Wesley; Mo Gaffney as Ms. Grumbles; Danny Pudi as Dr. Neelankavil; Emily Maya Mills as Ethel Merman; Michael Bolton as Michael Bolton, Mandy Moore as Mandy Moore, Ian Ziering as Ian Ziering; Steve Kerr as Steve Kerr; and Jeffrey Muller, Kyle Lau, Dannah Phirman, and Danielle Schneider.

From MTV Entertainment Studios, Clone High, which has a two-season order, is executive produced by Phil Lord, Chris Miller, Bill Lawrence, Erica Rivinoja, and Erik Durbin.

The 45-year-old Cuban American television writer and One Day at a Time co-showrunner will be taking part in ATX Television Festival’s virtual edition, which has been appropriately titled “ATX TV…From The Couch!”

Calderón Kellett will take part in a conversation about Latinx representation on the small screen, alongside Vida creator Tanya SarachoPose’s co-creator Steven Canals and Diary of a Future President’s Ilana Peña.

Calderón Kellett, Saracho, Canals and Peña, some of today’s hottest Latinx content creators, will be “Celebrating Authentic Stories,” the title of their panel. 

They’ll talk about celebrating and continuing the push for positive Latinx representation, as well as how decision-makers within the industry can amplify Latinx voices.

 “ATX TV… from the Couch!” marks the first virtual event for the fest and will include industry-forward panels with showrunners and executives, sneak previews of upcoming series, and virtual events such as television trivia and a music showcase. 

The virtual event will take place June 5-7. It will be free to access via ATX’s official YouTube channe l, with the option for viewers to donate to select organizations providing COVID-19 relief regionally and nationally.

In addition to the Latinx panel, the festival’s virtual line-up will include conversations with cast and creatives from Freeform’s The Bold TypeNBC’s hit drama New Amsterdam, and The CW’s mystery-drama Nancy Drew.

The ATX Television Festival will also include a Scrubs reunion with the show’s creator Bill Lawrence, as well as cast members Zach BraffDonald FaisonSarah Chalke, John C. McGinley, and Judy Reyes. The cast was previously confirmed for ATX Season 9 in Austin, and rescheduled their in-person reunion for the 2021 festival.

With Amy Heckerling’s iconic ’90s romantic comedy Cluelessstarring the 53-year-old part-Mexican actress, celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, the minds behind immersive experiences like Saved by the MaxGood BurgerThe Peach Pitand the Breaking Badexperience are opening “As If!” a new pop up that will leave fans of the popular film singing “Rollin’ with the homies” as they are immersed in the world of the film’s fashion-savvy heroine and way existential Cher Horowitz (played by Alicia Silverstone), her BFF Dionne Davenport(Dash) and the gang.

With the help of Paramount Pictures, the new pop up experience will celebrate the movie that made Baldwins and Bettys out of all of us. 

The limited-run pop up is set to open on March 31 and continue through May 8 at 7100 Santa Monica Blvd. in Los Angeles. 

While sporadically soaking in all of the insta-worthy set recreations, guests can enjoy libations, dine on “Cher-able” bar snacks created by Chef Royce Burkeand shop for merch to avoid being a fashion victim. No word yet on whether there will be time to play “suck and blow” but just make sure you aren’t caught dead in the same outfit as Ambular.

“We are like ‘totally butt crazy in love’ with the chance to bring the world of Cluelessto life,” said Derek Berry, one of the concept’s partners. “It’s truly one of those films that has stood the test of time and cult fandom. With the anniversary quickly approaching there was no better team than ours to honor this beloved teen classic and bring Cher’s world to life. To miss out would have just been way harsh.”

Zabryna Guevara to Star in NBC’s Mystery Drama Pilot “Emergence”

The project hails from Kevin (Probably) Saves the World creators/executive producers Michele Fazekasand Tara Butters, director Paul McGuiganand ABC Studios.

Written by Fazekas and Butters and directed by McGuigan, Emergence is a character-driven genre thriller that centers on Jo (Tolman), a police chief who takes in a young child, Piper (Alexa Skye Swinton), she finds near the site of a mysterious accident who has no memory of what has happened. The investigation draws her into a conspiracy larger than she ever imagined, and the child’s identity is at the center of it all.

Guevara will play Abby, a pediatrician who is a longtime friend of Jo.

Guevara stars as Dora in NBC’s breakout drama series New Amsterdamand in CBS All Access’ Tell Me A Story. She will be seen next month opposite Ginnifer Goodwinand James Frainin CBS All Access’ The Twilight Zonereboot. She also co-stars in indie film Swallow, which will premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival

Disney Channel Releases Trailer for Myrna Velasco’s Animated Series “Star Wars Resistance”

Disney Channel has released a new trailer for its upcoming animated show Star Wars Resistance, featuring the Mexican American actress.

“Can you imagine what it’s like to be an ace pilot?” Kazuda Xiono (“Kaz”) asks in the new trailer. Audiences will follow Kaz and some familiar Star Wars faces as he does just that — become a top pilot, not to mention spying on the rising threat of the First Order for the Resistance.

In the hour-long premiere, Poe and BB-8 assign Kaz to go undercover on the Colossus, a massive aircraft home to new aliens, droids, and other creatures. He makes new friends, like Poe’s old buddy Yeager, as well as a battered astromech droid called Bucket. With challenges like dangerous sky races and keeping his mission a secret from his newfound crew, Kaz is in over his head as he tries to avoid the danger of the First Order.

Star Wars Rebels showrunner Dave Filoni created the series, which will see Oscar Isaac reprising his big screen role as pilot Poe Dameron, while Christopher Sean voices Kaz. Gwendoline Christie will return to voice the villainous Captain Phasma, and Rachel Butera plays General Leia Organa.

In addition to Velasco, other supporting voice actors include Suzie McGrath, Scott Lawrence, Josh Brener, Donald Faison, Jim Rash and Bobby Moynihan.

The adventure series will have a one-hour premiere on Sunday, October 7 at 10:00 pm ET/PT on Disney Channel, DisneyNOW, and Disney Channel VOD, with further airings on Disney XD.
