Kevin Alves Upped to Series Regular on Showtime’s “Yellowjackets”

Kevin Alves will be seeing more yellow(jackets) next season…

The 30-year-old Brazilian Canadian actor and figure skater, who portrays Travis Martinez on Showtime’s Yellowjackets, has been upped to series regular.

Kevin AlvesTravis is the son of Bill Martinez, the head coach of the Yellowjackets girls soccer team. The players were bound for the nationals when their plane crashed in the wilderness of Canada and the coach was killed.

Travis, who’s a guarded and insecure teen, ended up starting a romance with Natalie Scatorccio, played by Sophie Thatcher as a teen and Juliette Lewis as an adult.

Travis was played as an adult in season one by Andres Soto.

Before Yellowjackets, Alves recurred for two seasons on Shadowhunters as Bat Belasquez and Locke & Key as Javi Gonzalez.

He previously appeared on Warehouse 13 and as Fabio on Degrassi: The Next Generation.

New cast members set for the second season of Yellowjackets include Elijah WoodLauren Ambrose and Simone Kessell.

The drama is from Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson and is produced for Showtime by studio Entertainment One (eOne).

Quibi to Stream All-Star Remake of “The Princess Bride” Featuring Jenna Ortega

Starting Monday, Quibi will stream an all-star remake of The Princess Bride filmed by actors at home while in quarantine, including the 17-year-old Puerto Rican and Mexican American actress.

In addition to Ortega, the re-creation will feature an A-list cast that includes couples Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner,Common and Tiffany HaddishNeil Patrick Harris and David Burtka and Chris Pine and Annabelle Wallis, along with Hugh JackmanJennifer GarnerElijah Wood, Jon HammBeanie FeldsteinLucas HedgesJack BlackDavid OyelowoKeegan-Michael KeyPatton OswaltJosh GadAndy SerkisDiego LunaTaika Waititi and Zazie Beetz and more.

Directed by Jason Reitman, the project will see Common playing the heroic Westley (originated by Cary Elwes), Haddish as Princess Buttercup (first played by Robin Wright), and Jackman as the villainous Humperdinck, to name a few.

The Princess Bride’s director, Rob Reiner, will also appear in the remake, along with Fred Savage, who reprises his role as the grandson in the film.

Beginning June 29, Quibi will release chapters of the made-at-home movie daily for two weeks.

The remake also is aiding a good cause. As part of the project, Quibi has donated $1 million to chef José Andrés’ charity World Central Kitchen, which provides meals to those who have been most affected by the coronaviruspandemic.

Reyes Wins First-Ever Emmy at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards

The 54-year-old Spanish composer won his first-ever Emmy during the first night of the Television Academy’s the Creative Arts Emmy Awards.

Reyes picked up the award in the Outstanding Music Composition For A Limited Series, Movie or Special (Original Dramatic Score) category for his work on AMC’s The Night Manager.

In recent years, Reyes has enjoyed international success with scores for Buried, Red Lights and Grand Piano. The latter, a taut thriller starring Elijah Wood and John Cusack includes an original piano concerto written by the composer, which is integral to the plot of the film and received high praise from music critics.

Reyes also earned the 2002 Cinema Writers Circle Award (CEC) for The City With No Limits.

But Reyes isn’t the only Latino winner…

Dana Gonzales won his first Emmy in the Outstanding Cinematography For A Limited Series or Movie category. The Latino cinematographer earned the award for his work on the “Waiting for Dutch” episode of FX Network’s series Fargo

Meanwhile, Eddie Perez picked up his first-ever Emmy award in the Outstanding Stunt Coordination For A Comedy Series or Variety Program category. The Latino stunt performer and actor won the award for his work on Showtime’s Shameless.

The first night of the two-night Creative Emmy Awards show was held at the Microsoft Theatre L.A. Live.

Ferreira is Moving From CAA to William Morris Endeavor (WME)

The 23-year-old part-Brazilian singer-songwriter, model and actress has moved from Creative Artists Agency (CAA) to William Morris Endeavor (WME).

She already was represented by IMG Models, which was part of the WME | IMG acquisition last year.

Ferreira is currently the face of the Jimmy Choo fragrance Illicit and will soon be featured in Paco Rabanne’s next fragrance campaign with Gabriel Day-Lewis.

She starred in Eli Roth’s cannibal horror film The Green Inferno, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2013 and will be released in the U.S. later this month.

Ferreira will also be seen in the true-life drama Elvis & Nixon, starring Michael Shannon and Kevin Spacey as the titular title characters, and in crime thriller The Trust, starring Nicolas Cage and Elijah Wood.

As a recording artist, Ferreira’s 2013 Capitol Records debut Night Time, My Time opened at No. 45 on the Billboard 200 before finding its way onto Rolling Stones list of that year’s top albums and Pitchfork‘s list of the decade’s top 100 albums.

She currently is recording her sophomore album, Masochism, due out next year.

New Trailer Released for Vigalondo’s Suspense Thriller “Open Windows”

It’s open (window) season for Nacho Vigalondo

A new trailer for the 37-year-old Spanish filmmaker’s latest project Open Windows has been released.

Starring Elijah Wood and Sasha Grey, the film is being called a high tech Hitchcock project. It’s an internet age suspense thriller presented through the lens of a computer desktop.

Wood stars as Nick, a superfan who’s won a dinner with his favorite actress, Jill Goddard (Grey). When she refuses the date a mysterious third party offers Nick a chance to watch Jill secretly through her webcam, sparking a terrifying cat and mouse game.

The real-time thriller premiered in March at SXSW and was partially filmed at Austin’s annual Fantastic Fest where Vigalondo and Wood are frequent guests.

Fantastic Fest’s 2014 edition kicks off September 18 and will host the U.S. premiere of anthology threequel V/H/S Viral, for which Vigalondo directed a segment.

Cinedigm will peel back the curtain on Open Windows first on video on demand on October 2, before it hits theaters on November 7.

Vigalondo’s previous credits include Timecrimes, Extraterrestrial and The ABCs of Death.

Cinedigm Acquires U.S Distribution Rights to Vigalondo’s “Open Window”

Nacho Vigalondo’s first English-language feature film will officially hit U.S. theaters later this year…

Cinedigm has landed the U.S. distribution rights to the 36-year-old Spanish writer/director’s latest film Open Window, which stars Elijah Wood and Sasha Grey.

The film, which premiered recently at SXSW in the Visions section of the film festival, features Wood portraying Nick, who wins an online contest to have dinner with the hottest actress on earth Jill (Grey).

When she cancels, he gets a call from a guy named Chord who offers to make it up to Nick by giving him the tools to spy on Jill from his computer for the rest of the night.

Then the truth begins to reveal itself, with Nick playing a part in a much bigger plan.

“Nacho is one of the most innovative and visionary filmmakers working today. And his talents are once again on full display in this high-tech, action-packed suspense film,” said Vincent Scordino, SVP Theatrical Releasing at Cinedigm.

Vigalondo received an Academy Award nomination and a Best Short Film Award nomination at the European Film Awards for his 2003 short film 7:35 de la Mañana.

He also directed the 2011 film Extraterrestial, a Spanish-language alien invasion horror film that he also wrote.

Cinedigm plans to release Open Window in late summer or early fall 2014.

Trailer Released for Mira’s Elijah Wood-Starrer “Grand Piano”

Eugenio Mira’s English-language debut is nothing short of grand

A new trailer has been released for the 36-year-old Spanish filmmaker’s Grand Piano, a thriller starring Elijah Wood as a concert pianist coerced into giving the performance of his life by an unseen sniper.

The film, which was written by Damien Chazelle (The Last Exorcism Part II, Guy and Madeline on a Park Bench), also stars John Cusack and Kerry Bishé.

Mira is an accomplished composer himself, having scored his own films Agnosia and The Birthday as well as 2007′s Timecrimes from fellow Spaniard Nacho Vigalondo.

Magnet Releasing acquired the rights to Grand Piano in September when it premiered at Austin’s Fantastic Fest.

The film will be released in theaters on March 7 release following its video on demand (VOD) debut in late January.

Garcia to Star in the Zombie-Themed Horror Comedy “Cooties”

It appears Jorge Garcia has a serious case of the cooties

The 40-year-old half-Cuban/half-Chilean American actor has signed on to star in the prepubescent horror comedy Cooties.

Garcia, who last starred in Fox’s short-lived drama Alcatraz, will portray a teacher in the film, which follows a zombie-like epidemic that originates from an infected chicken nugget and turns elementary school students into rampaging savages.

Written by InsidiousLeigh Whannell and Glee co-creator Ian Brennan, the film also stars Elijah Wood, Alison Pill, Rainn Wilson, Jack McBrayer and Nasim Pedrad.

Filming is expected to begin on July 15 in LA with Jonathan Milott and Cary Murnion directing.

Garcia, who rose to acclaim on ABC’s Lost, most recently guest-starred on the fairy tale drama Once Upon a Time.
