Penelope Cruz has raced her way to recognition Down Under.

The Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts has released the nominations for its 13th annual AACTA International Awards, with the 49-year-old Spanish Oscar-winning actress earning a nod.

Penelope Cruz, FerrariCruz is nominated for her acclaimed performance as Laura Ferrari, the wife of Adam Driver’s Enzo Ferrari, in Ferrari.

Cruz’s performance as a scorned wife has earned her Oscar buzz.

But Cruz isn’t the only Hispanic artist to earn a nod…

Jacob Elordi is nominated in the Best Supporting Actor category.

The 26-year-old half-Spanish Australian actor earned the nod for his performance in Saltburn.

The 48-year-old Chilean actor is nominated for his acclaimed performance in HBO’s The Last of Us.

“The 13th AACTA International Awards nominations reflect the pinnacle of global film and television excellence, celebrating the incredible achievements and exceptional talent that have captivated audiences worldwide,” AACTA CEO Damian Trewhella said. “We look forward to further honoring these nominees at our ceremony on the Gold Coast, Australia as we celebrate the best in entertainment on a global stage.”

The awards will be handed out in February 10 at AACTA Awards in Queensland.

Penelope Cruz Earns AACTA International Awards Nomination for “Parallel Mothers”

It’s an AACTA of appreciation for Penelope Cruz

The Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) has announced the nominees for its 11th AACTA International Awards, with the 47-year-old Spanish Oscar-winning actress earning a nod.

Cruz is nominated in the Best Lead Actress category for her starring turn in Pedro Almodovar’s Parallel Mothers. It’s her first-ever AACTA nomination.

Kenneth Branagh’s Belfast and Jane Campion’s The Power Of The Dog leading the pack, at seven and six mentions, respectively.

The 2021 AACTA International Awards will be presented virtually at 7am January 27 Australia time, which is 12pm PT January 26.

Celebrating the most outstanding film and television productions made this year, the awards are determined by many of Australia’s leading filmmakers and content creators.

This is the second year AACTA has extended the awards to include global TV across four categories.

The Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Artshas unveiled its nominees for the 9th AACTA International Awards, with the 59-year-old Spanish actor picking up a nod.

Banderas is up for Best Lead Actor for his highly acclaimed performance in Pedro Almodovar’s Pain and Glory.

It’s his first-ever AACTA International Award nomination.

The AACTA International Awards will be handed out on January 3 in Los Angeles.

The AACTA International Awards recognize film excellence regardless of geography and are determined by the Oz Academy’s International Chapter, which is made up of 150 Australian screen professionals, many of whom overlap with AMPASand BAFTA.

The Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts has revealed its nominations for its fourth annual AACTA International Awards for film in seven categories, with the 51-year-old’s dark comedy Birdman leading the field with seven nods.

Cuarón’s “Gravity” Earns Two International Awards from the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts

Alfonso Cuarón’s latest project is officially an award-winning hit Down Under…

The 52-year-old Mexican filmmaker, who earned an NAACP Image Award nomination and several BAFTA Award nods this week, took home Best Direction trophy at the AACTA International Awards.

Cuarón picked up the award from the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) for helming the 3D sci-fi thriller Gravity, starring Sandra Bullock.

In addition, Cuarón’s blockbuster hit film received the AACTA International Award for Best Film.

The space odyssey, based on a story written by Cuarón and his son Jonás Cuarón, pushed the known boundaries of cinematography and technologies to illustrate a tense story of skill and survival set in zero gravity. A team of world renowned VFX artists worked with Cuarón to realize his extraordinary vision including visual effects supervisor Tim Webber and Australian VFX House Rising Sun Pictures.

Winners were announced at an intimate awards ceremony in Los Angeles hosted by multi-award winner and AACTA president Geoffrey Rush.

Cuarón’s “Gravity” Nominated for Three Australian Academy Arts Awards

Alfonso Cuarón’s gravity-defying awards season continues with some big-time recognition Down Under

The 52-year-old Mexican director’s latest film, the Sandra Bullock-starrer Gravity, has received three AACTA Award nominations from the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts.

Cuarón is nominated in the AACTA International Award for Best Direction category for helming the blockbuster-hit 3D sci-fi thriller.

He’s up against Steve McQueen (12 Years a Slave), David O. Russell (American Hustle), Paul Greengrass (Captain Phillips) and Baz Luhrmann (The Great Gatsby).

Gravity is also nominated in the AACTA International Award for Best Film category, where it faces-off against 12 Years a Slave, American Hustle, Captain Phillips and Ron Howard’s Formula One drama Rush.

The AACTA International Awards will be held in Los Angeles on January 10th, 2014.
