Beltrán Signs with the St. Louis Cardinals…

Carlos Beltrán will be flying high with the St. Louis Cardinals next season…

The 34-year-old Puerto Rican slugger has signed a two-year contract with the reigning World Series champions, pending the results of a physical, according to team sources.

Carlos Beltran

A formal announcement on the deal, which the Associated Press reports is worth $26 million over two years, is expected after the holidays.

The move to add Beltrán would bolster the team’s lineup following the departure of Albert Pujols, who recently signed a $254 million, 10-year contract with the Los Angeles Angels.

“Beltrán is a proven outfielder who obviously has been a tough opponent against the Cardinals for many years,” St. Louis general manager John Mozeliak said in a statement. “It is going to be nice to have his bat and competitive nature working for us instead of on the other side of the field for the next couple of years.”

Beltrán batted .300 with 22 home runs, 84 RBIs and a .385 on-base percentage for the New York Mets and San Francisco Giants this year. He likely will be the opening-day right fielder for the Cardinals next season. Lance Berkman is expected to move to first base, taking Pujols’ spot.

A six-time All-Star, Beltrán began his career with the Kansas City Royals in 1998, three years after the team drafted him in the second round. The switch-hitter has a .283 career batting average with 302 home runs and 1,146 RBIs.

Pujols Signs with the Los Angeles Angels…

It’s probably okay to call baseball star Albert Pujols “The $254 Million Dollar Man”…

The 31-year-old Dominican slugger—who has been in the middle of a massive bidding war since helping lead the St. Louis Cardinals to their second World Series title in six years—has signed a 10-year contract with the Los Angeles Angels worth at least $254 million, according to several reports.

Albert Pujols Heading to the LA Angels

Pujols, a three-time National League MVP, Is among the game’s elite players. He hit 37 home runs last season, running his 30-homer streak to 11 years, and batted .299 with 99 RBIs.

He led the Cardinals’ improbable late-season surge and became only the third player to hit three home runs in a World Series game.

Pujols had been courted heavily by the Miami Marlins, who offered him a 10-year deal reportedly worth more than $200 million.

Pujols: The Marlins’ $200 Million Dollar Man?

He’s led the St. Louis Cardinals to two World Series titles in the last six seasons, but will baseball superstar Albert Pujols be switching teams?

The 31-year-old Dominican first baseman has been reportedly offered a 10-year contract by the Miami Marlins for an undisclosed amount, according to ESPN. Sources believe the deal could be worth $200 million or more.

St. Louis Cardinals Albert Pujols

The offer comes on the heels of the Marlins offering shortstop Jose Reyes a six-year contract valued at more than $100 million.

The Marlins—who will be moving into a new ballpark next season—and Cardinals seem to be the clear frontrunners in the quest to sign the three-time National League MVP.

In January, the Cardinals offered Pujols a nine-year contract for roughly $200 million.

Pujols—who hit .299 last season with 37 homers and 99 RBIs despite battling pain in his left elbow—helped the Cardinals this year to their second World Series title since 2006.

Reyes Headed to the Marlins?

Jose Reyes is leaving New York and heading south this winter… South Beach, that is.

The 28-year-old Dominican baseball star, who most recently played with the New York Mets, has reportedly agreed to a $106 million, six-year contract with the revamped Miami Marlins, according to The Associated Press.

Jose-Reyes-New-York-Mets

Reyes’ deal reportedly includes a club option for 2018 that would make the contract worth $120 million, although the official agreement hasn’t been announced yet.

Reyes—who signed with New York at the age 16—is a four-time All-Star and three-time stolen base champion. He’s also last season’s National League batting champion.

Preparing to move into a $515 million retractable-roof ballpark, the Marlins previously hired Ozzie Guillen as their manager and have stepped
up their efforts to recruit top-notch talent for the team, including another Dominicano: former St. Louis Cardinals star Albert Pujols, who is currently a free agent.

The Marlins had initially made Pujols a nine-year offer for considerably less than the reported nine-year, $198-million offer from the Cardinals that Pujols turned down last winter, according to reports. And now sources say the Marlins plan to step up their efforts to land
the 31-year-old nine-time All-Star.

Pujols Slugs His Way Into the World Series History Books…

St. Louis Cardinals slugger Albert Pujols produced one of the greatest hitting performances in World Series history during last night’s game against the Texas Rangers.

The 31-year-old Dominican-born baseball star tied the records of Reggie Jackson and Babe Ruth in hitting three home runs in a single World Series game.

But Pujols didn’t stop there… The three-time National League MVP also drove in six runs and finished with five hits—tying a Series record with each feat. In the end, he set a Series mark with 14 total bases.

So what does Pujols think of what many are calling the defining game of his career?

“Just pretty special,” proclaims Pujols. “Hopefully, at the end of my career, I can look back and say, ‘Wow, what a game it was in Game 3 in 2011.'”

Its’ no wonder Pujols is one of the most feared sluggers in the majors. After all, he became the first player in Series history to get hits in four straight innings.

“When the opportunity presents itself to put him on the bag, I’m not going to let him swing the bat,” said Rangers manager Ron Washington.
“But tonight, we just couldn’t get the ball out of the middle of the plate and up, and he just didn’t miss.”

In the end, Pujols’ mind-blowing batting helped lift the Cardinals past the Rangers 16-7. St. Louis now leads the series 2-1.
