Prince Royce is taking a stand

The 31-year-old Dominican American singer shared a message of unity while performing his bachata anthem “Stand By Me” during the third night of the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday, August 19.

“We felt that ‘Stand By Me’ would go perfectly with the convention’s message of unity and singing in both Spanish and English was important,” said Prince Royce.

Prince Royce sang his 2010 bilingual hit from Miami, near the colorful Tito Puente St. filled with picturesque murals.

Mi gente, let’s stand by each other and don’t forget to vote this November,” he said at the end of his performance. “Together we can make a change.”

As the only Latin artist to perform during the four-day virtual event where Joe Biden was officially nominated as the Democratic candidate for the upcoming 2020 presidential election, Prince Royce says he was motivated to be part of convention and represent Latinos.

“All eyes are on the convention which for the first time is virtual and I was happy to be a part of it and represent the Latino community,” said Prince Royce.

At the end of his performance, Royce sent out a message of unity and issued a call to action. “Mi gente, let’s stand by each other and don’t forget to vote this November,” he said. “Together we can make a change.”

A record 32 million Latinos are projected to be eligible to vote in the 2020 presidential elections, according to the Pew Research Center, making Latinos now the largest minority group in the electorate.

“There is no excuse for not voting,” Royce says. “The future is in our hands.”

Prince Royce Appears in Major League Soccer’s New “Our Soccer” Campaign

Prince Royce is ready for some futbol…

Major League Soccer has revealed its newest campaign titled Our Soccer, featuring the 29-year-old Dominican American bachat asinger.

Prince Royce MLS Campaign

The campaign — produced by The FADER and Cornerstone, MLS’ creative agency of record, and directed by Clayton Vomero— expresses the unique experience of being an MLS fan and the growth of the soccer movement in North America.

“The ‘Our Soccer’ campaign captures the unique spirit, confident attitude and diverse environment that embodies MLS,” said David Bruce, MLS vp/brand and integrated marketing in a statement.

The spot, voiced by Prince Royce in Spanish and English, features him wearing Inter Miami CF gear, the MLS expansion club co-owned by cultural icon David Beckham, while at a party watching a soccer game alongside producer and DJ TOKiMONSTA, who wears a Los Angeles Football Clubjersey.

Prince Royce said, “I think it’s one of the sports that has the most passion. You see so many cultures, languages — that’s the great thing about music and the great thing about soccer.”

“MLS truly marries culture and sport and unites players and people from diverse backgrounds like no other sport in North America,” added Jon Cohen, co-ceo of Cornerstone and co-founder and co-ceo of The FADER.

The track they’re working on is called “Adicto,” according to Billboard.

Prince Royce shared the news with Billboard during an interview in Los Angeles and revealed details about the collaboration.

“We were hanging out at Marc’s boat. A lot of friends come over, songwriters, and I played the song on his boat and originally, I had him in mind,” Royce said.

About the song, he added: “It’s a different type of record in general. It has a story, it has a lot of interaction between Marc and I, and it’s almost like a dialogue.”

No release date has been announced yet for Prince Royce and Marc Anthony’s song.

It’s Anthony’s first foray into bachata.

He’ll be running both the Tropical 5k, which takes place Saturday, and Sunday’s Miami Marathon.

Additionally, Prince Royce will be honored with the title of Grand Marshal of the race.

But this isn’t Royce’s first major race.

He ran the New York City Marathon in November. The Bronx native picked up running in 2017 after a cousin challenged him to get in more cardio. Six months later, he did his first marathon.

“My experience last year with the New York Marathon impressed and inspired me to participate once again in these types of challenges,” Royce said in a statement.

Santos Breaks His Own Record on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs Chart

Romeo Santos is breaking his own records…

The 33-year-old Puerto Rican and Dominican American singer, Bachata’s reigning star, debuts two Formula, Vol. 2 album cuts on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart, growing his number of simultaneous tracks on the list to eight — breaking his own record.

Romeo Santos

No other act has earned more than five concurrent songs on the list. It’s a four-way tie for those who have: Jenni Rivera, Pitbull, Wisin & Yandel and Daddy Yankee all claimed that feat. Santos’ “Amigo” and “Inocente” debut (at No. 49 and 48, respectively), while “7 Dias” re-enters at No. 42.

Meanwhile “Hilito” leaps 49-37 in its fifth week, and recently announced single “Yo Tambien,” featuring Marc Anthony, comes back at No. 11.

The remaining three tracks continue their runs in the top 10: “Propuesta Indecente” (No. 3), “Eres Mia” (No. 4), and “Odio” featuring Drake (No. 7) have all remained in the top 10 together since June 2014.

All eight tracks saw gains, mostly with streaming, specifically on Spotify and YouTube. The largest streaming increase goes to “Inocente,” which rises 77 percent to 295,000 weekly U.S. streams. “Propuesta Indecente” logs the most clicks, rising four percent to 1.5 million.

Santos’ First Solo Album Records Strong Sales Numbers…

It seems Romeo Santos has found the formula for success in his new aventura as a solo artist…

The former Aventura frontman’s debut album has posted the biggest first sales week of any Latin album in four years.

The 30-year-old Dominican-American singer’s “Formula, Vol. 1” bowed at No. 9 on the Billboard 200 chart, with Nielsen SoundScan reporting the album sold 62,000 copies.

It’s the largest first-week sales posting for a Latin album since June 23, 2007, when Daddy Yankee’s “El Cartel: the Big Boss” sold 82,000.

In addition to a landing in the Top 10 on the Billboard 200, “Formula” is the new No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Albums chart.

“Formula Vol. 1” features 15 songs in English and Spanish, including the hit “Promise,” Santos’ bilingual duet with Usher that reached No. 1 on the Latin Songs chart well before before they performed the song at last week’s Latin Grammys.

It seems Santos—who recently signed on to star in an ABC sitcom—is successfully transitioning to a solo career after a decade with his multiplatinum-selling bachata group.

“In a lot of ways, it’s a continuation of what I was doing in the group, where I was spending 20 hours in the studio on a song,” Santos told the New York Daily News. “I am still making the same decisions, but I get very nostalgic when I’m on stage without them, and I have to remind myself, okay, it’s Romeo, not Aventura.”

Santos is currently on the road promoting the album throughout the country.
