Martinez Eliminated on NBC’s “The Voice”

Melanie Martinez’s journey on The Voice has come to an end…

During Tuesday night’s double elimination on the live results show, the quirky 17-year-old Latina singer was sent packing after failing to garner enough votes to reach the final four on NBC’s hit reality singing competition.

Melanie Martinez

Martinez’s elimination, along with her fellow Team Adam member, Amanda Brown leaves only two coaches to vie for the winning title, Blake Shelton and Cee Lo Green.

“I’m just happy I got to express who I am as an artist and touch people’s hearts,” said Martinez of transforming top hits into her own while on the show. “That was the ultimate goal.”

But before bidding adieu to the show, Martinez teamed up with Team Cee Lo’s Nicholas David to perform an impressive cover of Fiona Apple‘s “Criminal” per the unsolicited song suggestions that Christina Aguilera gave Martinez after her performance on Monday night.

The contestants still left in the competition in clude:

Terry McDermott (Team Blake)
Trevin Hunte (Team Cee Lo)
Cassadee Pope (Team Blake)
Nicholas David (Team Cee Lo)

With Martinez’s exit, no Latino artists are left standing in the competition.

Bryan Keith Has His “Moment” on NBC’s “The Voice”

It’s Bryan Keith’s moment to shine on NBC’s The Voice

During Monday night’s “Top 12” performances, the 23-year-old Latino singer/songwriter and Team Adam member had his “breakout” moment while performing Amy Winehouse’s “Back to Black.”

Bryan Keith

Hernandez – the son of Latin jazz and salsa singer Ray De La Paz, who was a member of the Grammy-winning band Spanish Harlem Orchestra – received major kudos from the Voice coaches.

“Bryan, I think you just took the lead for Team Adam,” said Blake Shelton. “That was really good, congratulations. Solid!”

Christina Aguilera complimented him on his “cool, modern day raspy [Frank] Sinatra thing,” while his coach called his performance a “moment.”

“You definitely had that kind of break-out thing just happen, that really showed everybody how incredible you are,” said Adam Levine. “This was your day and this was your moment to show to kind of show America what was happening.”

But Hernandez wasn’t the only Team Adam member to impress the judges…

Melanie Martinez, who started her performance seated on the floor before bolting up to end her song with gusto, looked uniquely chic in her black and white striped dress.

The 17-year-old Latina singer performed Young the Giant’s “Cough Syrup” and earned raves from the judges for her uniqueness.

“I’ve never heard you project as much as you did on that one,” said Shelton. “And I enjoyed it ‘cause there’s a quality to your voice that I just found out that, no matter what range you’re singing in, it’s always there.”

Aguilera called it her “most emotional” performance, while Martinez’s coach said she has something that’s all her own.

“There’s only one Melanie in this competition,” said Levine. “You’re spectacular and you’re the only one like you in this competition.”

Meanwhile, Aguilera’s two Latino contestants still left in the competition did not disappoint…

Dez Duron performed a jazz-induced version of Frankie Valli’s Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You,” a la Lauryn Hill.

“I thought that performance was impeccable; I thought that it was wonderful through and through,” declared Cee Lo Green of the 22-year-old Latino singer. “[Christina’s] absolutely right in saying that you are the total package. You’ve got so much charisma, so much control and you’ve got such natural appeal, sexual appeal.

Levine complimented Duron on finding his voice with a song that was “decisively you,” while his coach asked the audience and America one simple question about her “old soul crooner with a modern twist”:

“How can you guys not love this guy?” asked Aguilera, adding, “When you get on there stage, I really notice there’s a certain… there’s no other way to describe it other than just a true star quality feel that you do have. ” “Old soul crooner voice with a modern twist”

But Duron wasn’t the only Team Xtina member to bring their A-game.

Adriana Louise, shining bright like a star in her gold sequined dress, performance a sassy and raspy rendition of Carrie Underwood’s “Good Girl.”

“You looked beautiful tonight. I thought you sounded as great as ever and just continuing to improve,” said Green, adding, “Regardless of tempo, song or styling, you always seem very committed and convicted to what you’re singing. And I can appreciate that.”

Shelton and Levine both applauded Adriana for adeptly taking on Underwood’s song.

“ I am so happy that you did a country song, and Carrie Underwood song,” said sole country coach Shelton. “And I think you made it your own and I appreciate that.”

Aguilera called Adriana’s performance “so playful and so cute” and talked about how easy she made performing that song looked.

“You don’t get it on the radio how hard that is to execute live, but it’s really hard,” said Aguilera. “Even this, like all those runs in between, to execute that so perfectly is really hard you guys… “The best is yet to come from you. And, if you make it through to the next round, America I won’t disappoint you with Adriana, she is a firecracker!”

“The Voice” Contestant Duron Breezes Into the Top 12

Dez Duron is feelin’ America’s love on NBC’s The Voice

Dez Duron

Following his impressive rendition of Hunter Hayes‘ No. 1 country song “Wanted” in the second installment of the show’s Playoff Rounds on Wednesday night, the 22-year-old Latino heartthrob was declared safe after receiving enough votes from the public to advance to the Top 12.

Duron and Sylvia Yacoub got the most public votes on Christina Aguilera’s team.

And when it came down to picking who else to send on to the Top 12, Aguilera had to choose between Latina singer Adriana Louise, Devyn Deloera and De’borah.

“Don’t let anyone or anyone’s opinion define who you are,” said Aguilera before revealing deciding to keep Adriana Louise.

Meanwhile, Team Adam member Bryan Keith Hernandez advanced to the next round after being one of the top two vote-getters, while  Melanie Martinez had to rely on her mentor to advance to the Top 12.

“No one is better than the other, I don’t believe that,” said Adam Levine before choosing Martinez over fellow Latina Joselyn Rivera and Loren Allred.

But Diego Val wouldn’t be so lucky… Cee-Lo Green opted to send Cody Belew on to the next round and send home Val and Mackenzie Berg.

And it was the end of the road for mariachi singer Julio Cesar Castillo. The member of Blake Shelton‘s was among the three at the bottom of the pack, but Blake Shelton decided to send Michaela Page forward instead of Castillo and Liz Davis.

Val Heading to the Live Shows on “The Voice”

Things are definitely going Diego Val’s way on The Voice

The 25-year-old Peruvian singer battled against his fellow Team Cee Lo member Caitlin Michele in his Knockout Round during Monday’s episode of NBC’s hit singing competition.

Diego Val

Val, who advanced after defeating JR Aquino in the Battle Round, performed a high octane rendition of Lenny Kravitz’s “Are You Gonna Go My Way” while Michele took on Evanescence’s moody “Bring Me to Life.”

Coach Cee Lo Green didn’t seem impressed with Val or Michele, saying neither game their best performance. But he did have positive words for Val.

“I like you a lot,” declared Green, “and I think you’ve got a lot of personality.”

And that’s all it took for Green to keep Val and take his all-male team to the live shows.

“For a second I thought I was out,” said Val. “Cee Lo put a lot a faith in me and the next round I’m just gonna kill it.

But the news wasn’t so positive for another Latino contestant on Team Cee Lo…

Daniel Rosa battled against Mackenzie Bourg in his Knockout Round clash, performing Taylor Swift’s “Back to December.”

But Bourg’s visionary take on Carly Rae Jepsen’s inescapable hit “Call Me Maybe” seemed to impress the coaches more.

“Daniel, you are a wonderful, wonderful, wonderful singer,” said Green of Rosa, who had thoroughly impressed the coaches in the previous round. “You are better than your performance today.”

And with that, Rosa’s The Voice dreams are dashed this season.

Rivera Advances to the Live Shows on “The Voice”

It looks like Joselyn Rivera won’t be heading back to Miami anytime soon…

During Monday night’s episode of The Voice, the 17-year-old pop diva faced off against another Latina singer, Kayla Nevarez, in what proved to be a heated Knockout Round clash.

Joselyn Rivera vs. Kayla Nevarez

In the brand new addition to NBC’s singing competition, the coaches –Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green – pit two of their team members against each other. The artists sing songs that they chose themselves, while their opponent watches on from the corner.

The former Team Christina member, who advanced after Adam Levine used one of his steals to keep her alive in the competition in the previous round, picked Beyonce’s “Love On Top” as her song to show her “high range and personality,” while the 17-year-old Nevarez chose V.V. Brown’s “Shark in the Water” for it’s “vibey” sound.

Following their inspired performances, Shelton believed Nevarez played it safe while Rivera took more risks with the song, including some ambitious runs.

Aguilera, Rivera’s former coach, seemed to have the biggest kudos for her former protégé.

“’Love On Top’ is a challenging glass of difficulty to swallow,” declared Aguilera. “It’s unbelievable… the range in that song, and you were hitting it.”

Green added that Rivera “did it with such grace and such confidence.”

In the end, it was up to Levine to decide which Latweena singing sensation to advance…

“I can’t think of a more ambitious song to choose,” Levine told Rivera. “You didn’t have to choose this song, so that says a lot to me. And you’re 17! So it’s just crazy. It’s a testament to your ability.”

And with that declaration, Levine chose Rivera to advance to the next round on The Voice.

“I’m super excited to move on to the live shows,” exclaimed Rivera. “And I’m just so grateful for this opportunity and to keep going. It’s just an honor to be here.

Adriana Louise Takes Down Pruitt to Advance on NBC’s “The Voice”

Adriana Louise will be putting up her dukes in the next round on The Voice.

During Tuesday night’s episode of NBC’s hit singing competition, Christina Aguilera pitted the 22-year-old Latina singer and New York City waitress against former Hollywood Records recording artist Jordan Pruitt in one the most competitive Battle Round matchups of the season.

Adriana Louise vs. Jordan Pruitt

From the first note, it was obvious the Team Xtina members were both in fierce fighting form while performing Katy Perry’s dancetasticHot n Cold.” Despite Pruitt’s experience as a Disney recording artist, the contestants were quite evenly matched.

“I don’t think we’ve ever had a battle that’s so even,” declared Voice coach Adam Levine, who picked Pruitt as the victor of the battle.

Blake Shelton complimented Adriana Louise being “a strong singer,” but also chose Pruitt as the victor.

Meanwhile, Cee Lo Green cast his vote for Adriana Louise.

“You really took the opportunity to take that high note,” said Green. “Oh, you’ve got that feist[iness] about you!”

But it was ultimately Aguilera’s decision to make. And the Grammy-winning songstress was quite impressed with Adriana Louise’s performance.

“You were able to hit some crazy notes,” said Aguilera. “That’s something that you naturally do have, and that’s what I connected with.”

When it came down to the final call, Aguilera picked Adriana.

“She’s a force to be reckoned with as far as a vocalist,” said Aguilera after making her decision. “It’s beautiful to see people like Adriana step it up like true stars.”

Adriana Louise now advances to the Knockout Round on season three of The Voice.
