Karol G Continues Breaking Records with Mañana Será Bonito Tour

Karol G continues breaking records…

The 33-year-old Colombian Grammy-winning singer has broken records in Costa Rica while on the Latin American leg of her Mañana Será Bonito Tour.

Karol GKarol G sold nearly 105,000 tickets between her two sold-out shows in San José (March 9-10), becoming the highest ticket sales ever for a concert in the Central American country.

The record was previously held by Coldplay in 2022.

Additionally, as the trek moves to Europe, the “Bichota” singer also achieved a groundbreaking feat by becoming the first artist to sell out four shows at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in Madrid, where she’ll perform from July 20 to 23.

Mariah Carey Among Inaugural BRIT Billion Award Honorees

It’s a BRIT-ish invasion for Mariah Carey. 

The 52-year-old half-Venezuelan American Grammy-winning singer is among the first recipients of the new BRIT Billion Award, denoting 1 billion career UK streams.

Mariah CareyCarey is among a list of honorees that includes Lewis Capaldi, Whitney Houston, Coldplay and Sam Smith.

The BRIT Billion award, which, like the existing BRIT Certified program and its platinum, silver and gold tiers, is verified using Official Charts data.

Other artists in the inaugural class of recipients are ABBA, AJ Tracey, Anne-Marie, Ellie Goulding, George Ezra, Headie One, RAYE and Rita Ora. More artists who have surpassed the threshold will be announced in due course.

“I’m really honored to be one of the recipients of the BRIT Billion Award,” Carey said in a statement. “I’m so grateful to my fans for their endless and enduring support. I love you UK lambily and cannot wait to come back to your side of the pond and create more magical moments together.”

This is the first time in its five-decade history that the BPI’s certifications program has recognized an artist’s combined success across multiple projects. The One Billion career total will include tracks an artist has appeared on either as the principal performer or as a featured artist, as credited by the Official Charts.

The introduction of BRIT Billion reflects the extent to which streaming has transformed the music landscape for artists and fans alike over the past decade. More than 85% of the UK’s recorded music consumption now takes place through streaming.

Sophie Jones, BPI chief strategy officer and interim chief executive, said in a statement: “For a recording artist, there can be few greater sources of pride than having a Platinum or Gold disc on their wall, but in an era when success in measured in the hundreds of millions and indeed billions of streams, it was clear that we needed a new and additional way to recognize and celebrate outstanding achievement in recorded music, and I feel certain that having a BRIT Billion Award will become equally prized.”

The BRIT Billion award represents the first significant upgrade to the certifications program since April 2018, when it was rebranded from the BPI Awards to the BRIT Certified Awards.

Daddy Yankee has ended his touring career with a bang…

The 45-year-old Puerto Rican reggaeton superstar has played the final shows of his farewell tour, ending at Miami’s FTX Arena on Thursday, December 22.

Daddy YankeeAccording to figures reported to Billboard Boxscore, La Ultima Vuelta World Tour wrapped with $197.8 million and 1.9 million tickets sold over 83 shows in 2022. That makes it the biggest tour of his career, by a long shot.

The tour kicked off at Denver’s Ball Arena on July 25, and played 33 shows until finishing its first leg at Madison Square Garden. The U.S. and Canada run earned $61.6 million and sold 376,000 tickets before venturing to Latin America.

There, Daddy Yankee hit 22 Spanish-speaking markets and earned $112.7 million and sold 1.383 million tickets.

He then closed the tour with 12 additional American shows, adding $23.4 million and 143,000 tickets to the final count.

With something of a home-field (or language) advantage, Latin American shows averaged $3 million and 36,000 tickets in mostly stadiums, compared to $1.9 million and 12,000 tickets in mostly domestic arenas.

Daddy Yankee’s geographical divide is in contrast with that of the year’s other major Latin tour from Bad Bunny. With more significant crossover success in recent years, Bad Bunny paced a similar 40,000-plus attendance in both territories but earned nearly three times more per show in the U.S. and Canada because of more elastic ticket scaling.

Bad Bunny and Daddy Yankee played a major role in lifting promoter Cardenas Marketing Network to No. 3 on the year-end Top Promoters ranking. After the final show in Miami, Henry Cardenas reflected to Billboard via email on the impact of Daddy Yankee’s final tour and touring career that started on day one.

“It was an unforgettable tour for me and for the entire CMN team. Having produced the farewell tour of the icon and influencer of an entire generation is one of the greatest accomplishments that our company has achieved. In 2005 we were the producers of his first tour, Barrio Fino, and today we say goodbye to him in La Ultima Vuelta. I thank Raymond and Mireddys for giving us the opportunity to be part of this dream that is now a reality and for allowing us to be direct witnesses of their great legacy.”

The La Ultima Vuelta World Tour was 2022’s second-biggest tour in Latin America, besting Bad Bunny’s $80 million-plus total, but falling short of Coldplay’s $127.9 million from two separate legs of Music of the Spheres Tour.

Still, Daddy Yankee’s nearly $2 million average in the states on a robust 45-date routing made for a gargantuan global total. Excluding Latin American dates, La Ultima Vuelta World Tour represents a leap of more than 100% from his previous nightly best. All shows considered, he’s up by 162%.

Regardless of geography or genre, Daddy Yankee finished at No. 13 on the year-end Top Tours chart, ranking artists on their concert business between November 1, 2021-October 31, 2022.

On Billboard’s monthly Top Tours chart, he’s climbed from No. 22 in July to No. 9 to No. 5 and, for October and November, to No. 3 (December’s ranking will publish next month).

Further, in the calendar year of 2022, Daddy Yankee has the sixth-highest grossing tour worldwide, behind Bad Bunny, Elton John, Coldplay, Ed Sheeran and Harry Styles.

And even beyond his year-end achievements, La Ultima Vuelta World Tour finishes as the second-highest grossing Latin tour in Boxscore history, sandwiched between Bad Bunny’s World’s Hottest Tour ($314.1 million) and El Ultimo Tour Del Mundo ($116.8 million).

NBC and E! have announced this year’s People’s Choice Awards nominations, with the 28-year-old Puerto Rican rapper and singer earning seven nods.

Bad BunnyBad Bunny will compete for Concert Tour of 2022, Latin Artist of 2022, Male Artist of 2022 and Social Celebrity of 2022.

He’s also up for Song of 2022 for his hit single “Me Porto Bonito”with Chencho Corleone, Album of 2022 for Un Verano Sin Ti, and Collaboration Song of 2022 for “Party” with Bad Bunny and Rauw Alejandro, a two-time nominee.

Selena Gomez is the top Latina nominee this year…

The 30-year-old Mexican American actress/singer received four nods, including Social Celebrity of 2022, Comedy TV Star of 2022 and Female TV Star of 2022 for her work on Only Murders in the Building, and Music Video of 2022 for “Let Somebody Go,” her song with Coldplay.

In addition to Rauw, two-time nominees include Jennifer Lopez, Camila Cabello and Karol G.

One-time nominees include Rafael Nadal, Brent Rivera, Anitta, Shakira, Sebastian Yatra, Rosalia, Becky G and Oscar Isaac.

Saturday Night Live cast member Kenan Thompson will return to host this year’s People’s Choice Awards, marking his second consecutive ceremony.

Voting is now open and fans worldwide can vote for their favorite nominee in each of the 40 categories representing movies, television, music and pop culture.

The 2022 People’s Choice Awards will air simultaneously on NBC and E! on Tuesday, December 6 at 9:00 pm ET/PT from the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, CA.

Live from E!: The 2022 People’s Choice Awards will kick off the night with a red carpet special at 7:00 pm ET/PT on E!.

Bad Bunny’s “World’s Hottest Tour” Named Top-Grossing Tour of August

Bad Bunny continues making history on the road…

The 28-year-old Puerto Rican superstar has conquered stadiums this summer with the top-grossing tour of August.

Bad BunnyWorld’s Hottest Tour – Bad Bunny’s second chart-topping trek of 2022 – grossed $91.1 million and sold 404,000 tickets during the month, according to figures reported to Billboard Boxscore.

Bad Bunny had previously mounted the biggest Latin tour in Billboard Boxscore history with $117 million on El Ultimo Tour del Mundo. Billboard began compiling Boxscore data in the late 1980s.

The total for Bad Bunny’s new tour, World’s Hottest Tour, is the second-highest one-month gross since the launch of Billboard’s monthly charts in February 2019.

Only The Rolling Stones have surpassed it in that time, grossing $95 million in August 2019.

Bunny had already claimed the all-time runner-up spot with his $65 million haul in March, though Coldplay snuck by with a $66.7 million take just last month. Now, he re-secures his standing with the highest one-month Boxscore gross for a solo act in the three years Billboard has been compiling monthly charts.

Bad Bunny only played nine shows in August, averaging a blistering $10.1 million and 45,000 tickets per show. While other artists near the top of the touring pack also played to massive crowds in stadiums around the U.S., their grosses are more reasonably head-spinning, between $5 million and $7 million each night.

World’s Hottest Tour, on the other hand, went stratospheric, pushing eight figures per show on the back of Un Verano Sin Ti, Bad Bunny’s summer-defining album that has logged 11 weeks (so far) atop the Billboard 200. Released on May 6, it impacted after the tour was sold out, though the added momentum of new music may have further affected resale demand.

There’s a saying that goes “your biggest competition is yourself.” If that’s true, Bad Bunny continues to win. He hit seven U.S. markets in August, improving upon the gross and attendance in each city from his Spring tour. That might sound obvious to the point of insignificance considering his upgrade to stadiums, but his arena tour played two or three shows in several markets and ultimately broke many local records.

Still, the Bad Bunny of February and March is no match for Bad Bunny of August. His $22.1 million run at Yankee Stadium August 27-28 nearly doubled the already-massive $11.1 million take in Brooklyn and Newark, N.J., combined. Grosses doubled, and then some, in Atlanta, Boston and Washington, D.C. His one show at Chicago’s Soldier Field earned $13.8 million and sold 51,791 tickets, besting a three-show run at the Allstate Arena ($11.2 million, 51,430 tickets) March 10-12.

August is Bad Bunny’s third month leading the Top Tours chart, following his gold medals in February and March. That ties him with The Rolling Stones for the second-most time atop the ranking, bested only by Elton John, who crowned four months in 2019-20.

Including a pair of September reports, World’s Hottest Tour has already grossed $122.5 million, eclipsing his previous run to become the highest grossing Latin tour in Boxscore history. It also makes him the first artist, in any genre, to mount two separate $100-million tours in the same year.

All seven plays on Bad Bunny’s August haul make the 30-position Top Boxscores chart, four of which crack the top 10. His shows help lift Soldier Field, Fenway Park and Yankee Stadium to the top five of Top Stadiums. And alongside Daddy Yankee, he helped push Cardenas Marketing Network to No. 3 on Top Promoters, earning $122.4 million, a record high for the Chicago-based company.

Coldplay Releases Music Video for Selena Gomez Collaboration “Let Somebody Go”

The 29-year-old Mexican American actress/singer’s collaboration with Coldplay, “Let Somebody Go,” has received the music video treatment.

In the video, frontman Chris Martin and Gomez inhabit a city that, with the help of impressive CGI work, is turned both upside down and inside out.

The pair shares a loving embrace with each other before taking walks separately through the slowly disintegrating town, later meeting up in an infinitely winding staircase and flying through a turbulent sky.

“All the storms we weathered/ Everything that we went through/ Now, without you, what on earth am I to do?/ When I called the mathematicians and I ask them to explain/ They said love is only equal to the pain,” Gomez sings on her verse of the song. The video concludes with Gomez and Martin in the same area where they shared their first embrace — this time, their bodies fade away to illustrate the passage of time.

During an October 14 appearance on On Air With Ryan Seacrest, the Coldplay frontman explained why he wanted the former Disney Channel star to sing on the track.

“First of all, Selena’s personality inside, she’s just an angel,” Martin shared. “I’ve got so much love and respect for her. She’s such a good, kind person, and then her voice for me is in like what I would call ‘the Rihanna bag,’ which are voices that are gifts to humanity…you can’t feel worse listening to her sing.”

Coldplay and Gomez initially debuted the track in a live joint appearance on the The Late Late Show With James Corden as part of a weeklong residency on October 19.

“Let Somebody Go” served as the second single from Coldplay’s ninth album, Music of the Spheres. The track charted at No. 91 on the Billboard Hot 100, with the album reaching No. 4 on the Billboard 200.

Cardi B, who hosted the star-studded awards show, won the award for Favorite Hip Hop Song for her chart-topping single “Up.” It’s her second consecutive win in the category after she took home the same award in 2020 for her single “WAP,” featuring Megan Thee Stallion.

The awards show featured performances from BTS with Coldplay, Olivia Rodrigo, Tyler the Creator, Måneskin, Walker Hayes, Mickey Guyton, Bad Bunny, Tainy with Julieta Venegas, Carrie Underwood with Jason Aldean, Kane Brown, New Edition and New Kids on the Block. Diplo was on DJ duty for the ceremony.

Bruno Mars won the Favorite R&B Song for “Leave the Door Open,” his Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 track “Leave The Door Open,” his single with Silk Sonic co-bandmate Anderson .Paak.

Becky G was named Favorite Female Artist – Latin for the second year in a row, Band MS was named Favorite Latin Duo or Group, and Kali Uchis won her first-ever AMAs trophy for Favorite Latin Song for “Telepatía.”

Selena Gomez Teaming Up with Coldplay for New Single “Let Somebody Go”

The 29-year-old Mexican American singer/actress is joining voices with Coldplay for an epic collaboration to appear on the English band’s upcoming album.

Gomez, currently starring in Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building, announced on Twitter that she and Coldplay have joined forces on the new song “Let Somebody Go.”

Gomez posted a visual to share the news with her followers, which featured a re-imagined, technicolor version of planet Earth rotating in space, surrounded by dozens of stars.

The brief video also gave fans a sneak peek of the track, on which the “Lose You to Love Me” singer and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin sing, “When I called the mathematicians and I asked them to explain/ They said love is only equal to the pain” over a sweeping pop instrumental background.

No official release date for “Let Somebody Go” has been announced yet, though it is slated to appear on Music of Spheres, Coldplay’s forthcoming album set for release on October 15.

Global Citizen Live has revealed additional names of performers for its worldwide show on September 25, with the 52-year-old Puerto Rican superstar among those taking the stage.

J.Lo — who also performed as part of Vax Live in Los Angeles a few months ago — Taboo and his fellow Black Eyed Peas and Meek Mill are among the acts just added to the 24-hour event, which will feature performances on six continents.

Global Citizen, the international advocacy group behind the Vax Live concert on May 8, said next month’s event is aimed at defeating poverty, Covid and climate change.

The acts revealed today join Adam Lambert, Alessia Cara, Andrea Bocelli, Angélique Kidjo, Billie Eilish, BTS, Burna Boy, Camila Cabello, Christine and the Queens, Coldplay, Davido, Demi Lovato, DJ Snake, Doja Cat, Duran Duran, Ed Sheeran, Femi Kuti, Green Day, H.E.R., Hugh Jackman & Deborra-lee Furness, Keith Urban, Lang Lang, Lizzo, Lorde, Metallica, Rag’n’Bone Man, Ricky Martin, Shawn Mendes, The Lumineers, The Weeknd, Tiwa Savage and Usher.

Global Citizen’s stated goal for the event is call on world leaders, major corporations and foundations to donate at least 1 billion Covid-19 vaccine doses to those most in need by September, help the 41 million people on the brink of famine by contributing enough meals to feed everyone for the next year and combat climate change by developing science-based targets to reach net-zero emissions.

Broadcast and streaming partners for Global Citizen Live include ABC, ABC News Live, BBC, FX, iHeartRadio, Hulu, YouTube, Time and Twitter.

Global Citizen and the European Commission have joined forces for Global Goal: Unite for Our Future – The Concert, with the43-year-oldColombian singer-songwriter set to perform.

Dwayne Johnson will host the event, which will take place on Saturday, June 27. 

The Concertwill be televised worldwide and digitally streamed special that will highlight the disproportionate impact COVID-19 has on marginalized communities.

In addition to Shakira, The Concertwill feature performances from Jennifer Hudson, Chloe x Halle, Christine and the Queens, Coldplay, J Balvin, Justin Bieber and Quavo, Miley Cyrus, Usher and Yemi Alade. 

In addition, there will be appearances from Billy Porter, Charlize Theron, Chris Rock, David Beckham, Derrick Johnson, Diane Kruger, Forest Whitaker, Hugh Jackman, Ken Jeong, Kerry Washington,Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Olivia Colman, Opal Tometi, Salma Hayek Pinault, Antoni Porowski and more.

The Concert will also be streamed on global platforms. 

The virtual broadcast will celebrate innovators, scientists, health workers, activists and organizations working to develop and distribute COVID-19 tests, treatments and vaccines to everyone, everywhere who need them.

The Concertfollows Global Goal: Unite for Our Future—The Summit, a global pledging moment where world leaders, corporations and philanthropists will announce new commitments to help develop equitable distribution of COVID-19 tests, treatments and vaccines, as well as rebuild communities devastated by the pandemic. 

The Summit will feature panel discussions and interviews moderated by journalists Katie Couric, Mallika Kapur, Morgan Radford, Isha Sesay and Keir Simmons.
