Claudia Brant Returning to Sony/ATV Music Publishing

Claudia Brant’s music will have a broader audience…

The 51-year-old Argentine singer-songwriter has signed a global publishing administration agreement with Sony/ATV Music Publishing.

Brant, whose credits include Luis Fonsi’s “No me doy por vencido” and Ricky Martin’s “Lo mejor de mi vida eres tu,” is one of a few prominent female songwriters in Latin music.

She returns to Sony/ATV after a stint at Universal Music Publishing Group.

“With over two thousand songs recorded, multiple awards, and 30 years of my life dedicated to songwriting, it’s clear to me now that Sony/ATV is where I belong,” said Brant in a statement.  “It is my honor to be a part of this publishing powerhouse where songwriters are not only heard and understood but respected and taken care of. I am looking forward to getting back to work with my friend Jorge Mejia, whose hard work and dedication has greatly impacted my career. Moreover, I am thrilled to find new opportunities for my music under the guidance of the amazing Jon Platt and his team, both in the United States as well as internationally. I’m so glad to finally be back home.”

Brant has songwriting credits with many of Latin music’s biggest stars and beyond, including Camila CabelloFifth HarmonyReikIl Volo and CNCO

She was also inducted into the Latin Songwriter’s Hall of Famein 2016 and is a National Trustee board member for The Recording Academy. She won a Grammy award for Best Latin Pop Album in 2019.

Her deal with Sony/ATV encompasses her prior catalog with the publisher.

Most recently, she created “Canción de Autor Oficial,” a non-profit whose aim is to promote songwriters’ craft and rights. The organization teamed up with MusiCares for a live event concert series to raise money for the COVID-19 relief fund.

La Mega 97.9’s Alex Sensation Signs with Magnus Talent Agency

The Colombian DJ, who hosts two programs on SBSLa Mega 97.9 FM, the most-listened-to station in New York City, has signed with Magnus Talent Agency for exclusive booking.

Alex Sensation’s performances as a recording artist and DJ (as well as other public appearances) will now be handled by Magnus in the national and international markets.

He’s the latest addition to MTA, which was launched in January as a division of Magnus Media, the entertainment company founded by Marc Anthony.

He joins a roster that already includes Gente de Zona, Motiff, Nacho, Il Volo for Latin America and, Anthony, among other acts.

“I’m very grateful to Marc and his team for making me feel at home and for being part of an exciting new chapter in my career,” said Sensation in a statement.

The Colombian-born DJ is also signed as a recording artist with In-Tu-Linea, the indie label distributed by UMLE, and is slated to release a solo album soon.

Magnus was launched in early 2015 and aside from its talent agency, also includes a label, management, publishing, merchandising and distribution divisions. MTA is run directly by Michel Vega, Magnus’ CEO, who as the longtime former head of Latin music at WME booked some of Latin music’s premiere acts for years.

“Opening an agency made complete sense to us as part of our overall portfolio,” Vega told Billboard. “And we absolutely want to grow. This is a big focus of ours.”

Lucero to Host This Year’s Latin American Music Awards

The 46-year-old Mexican singer/actress and television host will serve as the host of the first-ever Latin American Music Awards.

Known as Latin America’s sweetheart, Lucero has a long history of serving as the mistress of ceremonies for numerous awards shows.

La Novia De America” has hosted the Latin Grammy Awards eight times and the Mexican Telethon since 1997, as well as telethon editions in Chile, Guatemala, El Salvador and U.S. She also coached contestants on the first season of La Voz México.

The Latin AMAs, taking place on October 8 from the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, will begin with a one-hour red carpet pre-show special at 8:00 pm. ET, followed by the awards show at 9:00 pm. ET, to be broadcast live simultaneously on Telemundo and NBC Universo.

The night will culminate at 11:35 pm. ET, with the exclusive behind-the-scenes special Latin American Music Awards: Acceso VIP.

The show will also include a special musical tribute to the late queen of salsa, Celia Cruz, produced by salsa veteran Sergio George and featuring Colombian sensation Maluma, princess of salsa India, Mexican icon Yuri and singer/actress Aymée Nuviola — who portrays Cruz in the new Telemundo series Celia.

Cruz to Receive Musical Tribute at This Year’s Latin American Music Awards

Celia Cruz may be gone, but she’ll be remembered in a big way at the inaugural Latin American Music Awards.

The late Cuban-American salsa singer/performer and seven-time Grammy winner, who passed away in 2003 at the age of 77, will receive a musical tribute produced by Sergio George at the Latin AMAs.

George, a tropical music legend, has rounded up a diverse group of performers to honor the late Queen of Salsa’s legacy during the October 8 telecast on Telemundo, airing live from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

Colombian sensation Maluma, princess of salsa India, Mexican icon Yuri and singer/actress Aymée Nuviola — who portrays Cruz in the new Telemundo series Celia — will sing a medley of her most beloved hits.

Presenting the tribute are Puerto Rican actors Jeimy Osorio and Modesto Lacén, who play Cruz and her husband/manager Pedro Knight during their younger years on Celia (Nuviola and renowned theater actor Willie Denton play the couple later in life).

Slated for an October 13 premiere, Celia chronicles Úrsula Hilaria Celia de la Caridad Cruz Alfonso‘s evolution from a shy teen in pre-revolution Havana, Cuba, to a larger-than-life figure that brought the world to its feet with the power of her voice, inimitable style and exuberant presence. Along the way, Cruz battled racism, sexism and defied expectations of what a black female musician could achieve in the ’50s.

Jesse & Joy to Perform at This Year’s Latin American Music Awards

Jesse & Joy will be spreading their (ecos de) amor at this year’s Latin American Music Awards.

The Mexican pop duo, comprised of siblings Jesse Huerta and Tirzah Joy Huerta, have been added to the lineup of the first-ever Latin AMAs.

No word on what song Jesse & Joy will perform, but all bets are on the duo’s new ballad, “Ecos de Amor.”

Jesse & Joy will join a lineup that includes Paulina Rubio, Daddy Yankee, Yuri, Reik, Farruko, Fonseca and Shaggy.

The Latin AMAs, the first-ever Spanish language award show modeled after the American Music Awards, will be broadcast on October 8 on Telemundo, live from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.

The newly announced performers will join Lil Jon, Yandel, Natalie La Rose, Jencarlos Canela, Maluma, Luis Coronel, CD9, Gloria Trevi, Gerardo Ortiz and Il Volo.

With awards given in 20 categories, winners to the Latin AMAs will be voted by the fans in the traditional format of the American Music Awards.

Carey to Perform on NBC’s “Christmas in Rockefeller Center” Special

It looks like Mariah Carey will have a Green Christmas in the Big Apple…

The 42-year-old Grammy-winning singer and new American Idol judge has signed on to participate in NBC’s 15th annual Christmas in Rockefeller Center television special alongside The Voice’s Cee Lo Green.

The holiday special, which celebrates the lighting of the Christmas tree in New York’s Rockefeller Center, will air on Wednesday, November 28 at 8:00 pm ET.

Carey and Green will be joined by other big-name performers during the special, including Rod Stewart, country crooner Trace Adkins, singer-songwriter Victoria Justice, former The Voice competitor Chris Mann, and Italian pop-opera trio Il Volo.

Celebrities Billy Crystal and Bette Midler will also make appearances during the special event hosted by Today co-host Savannah Guthrie and weatherman Al Roker.

This year’s telecast will also include a special one-hour pre-show broadcast from 7:00 -8:00 pm ET.

The special holiday event will feature the lighting of the 80-foot tall, world-famous Rockefeller Center Christmas tree.
