Sanchez’s Latest Horror Film “Exists” Gets International Distribution

Eduardo Sanchez’s latest project will be spooking people throughout the world…

Entertainment One has picked up multiple territories for the 46-year-old Cuban American director’s found-footage horror film Exists, taking the title in Germany, France, Benelux, Scandinavia and South Africa.

Eduardo Sanchez

The company previously bought the U.K. rights for the Bigfoot-themed chiller from world sales agent International Film Trust (IFT) at the American Film Market in November.

The multiterritory deal was negotiated by IFT president Christian de Gallegos. IFT also sold Exists to Japan (AT Entertainment), the Middle East (Shooting Stars), Taiwan (Well Go) and CIS (Luxor) among many other territories.

Written by Jamie Nash (V/H/S 2), Exists follows five friends who head into the woods of Texas for an epic party weekend. Once there, they are confronted by the vicious reality behind the Bigfoot myth.

Exists has managed to scare people in the perfect way, and we are delighted at the enthusiastic response from buyers,” said de Gallegos.

Sanchez is credited with helping to invent the genre of found-footage horror films when he co-directed the psychological horror film The Blair Witch Project with Daniel Myrick in 1999. It earned the pair the inaugural Independent Spirit John Cassavetes Award from Film Independent, a non-profit organization dedicated to independent film and independent filmmakers.

His other credits include Altered, Seventh Moon and Lovely Molly.

Noomi Rapace in Passion

The erotic thriller, which stars the 33-year-old half-Spanish actress and Rachel McAdams, will be making its American premiere at the festival.

The film is described as a cat-and-mouse game of murderous personal and professional intrigue between a ruthless Berlin ad agency executive and her brilliant female assistant.

It bowed in competition at the Venice Film Festival last fall and segued directly to Toronto.

Its U.S. premiere was scheduled to take place at the New York Film Festival in October, but a glitch with the digital projection caused those screenings to be canceled.

Provincetown organizers confirmed Thursday that De Palma will fly in for Saturday’s showing of Passion. He is scheduled to participate in an audience Q&A after the film, which is a remake of French director Alain Corneau‘s 2010 noir, Love Crime.

Entertainment One will release Passion in the U.S. on August 30.

Archuleta’s “No Matter How Far” Album to be Released March 26

David Archuleta may be serving his Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on a two-year mission in Chile… But he’s giving fans new music to hold them over until his return.

Even though the 22-year-old Honduran/Spanish American singer and former American Idol runner-up isn’t expected to return until spring 2014, 10 Archuleta tracks have been collected for a new album, which fans can stream on Billboard.

David Archuleta

Before heading on his Mormon mission, Archuleta recorded several songs that were never placed on an official album — some unfinished demos, others hard-to-find cuts that had only been shared on international releases.

Due to his dedicated fans, many of the tracks were shared online, catching the eye of the label Entertainment One, which decided to compile them into a proper album: No Matter How Far.

The album’s lead single, the sentimental ballad “Don’t Run Away,” is one of two selections (along with “Heart Falls Out“) that hasn’t been released before in any format.

With help from British producers The Nexus (David Sneddon and James Bauer-Mein), the incomplete demo was polished into one of Archuleta’s finest moments.

No Matter How Far, the follow-up to Archuleta’s Begin. album, can be pre-ordered on iTunes here. It will be released officially on Tuesday, March 26.
