Mariah Carey Makes Surprise ‘Debut’ in Broadway’s “Some Like It Hot”

Mariah Carey is taking the Great White Way by storm.

The 52-year-old half-Venezuelan American Grammy-winning singer has made her surprise debut in Broadway’s Some Like It Hot on Sunday night, but probably not in the way the Lambs were expecting.

Mariah CareyAhead of the revival’s opening performance, audience members were treated to the singer’s voice welcoming them to the theater in a pre-recorded message.

“Welcome to the Shubert Theater!” she said in fan-captured video as the lights dimmed. “At this time, please take a moment to turn off your cell phones. And remember: The use of photographic equipment and recording devices is strictly prohibited. And now, Some Like It Hot.”

According to a report by People, the star-studded premiere was attended by Broadway greats like Bette Midler, Jane Krakowski, Nathan Lane and Victor Garber, as well as Andy Cohen, John Stamos, Uma Thurman and more famous faces.

The pre-show message is far from Mariah’s only contribution to Some Like It Hot.

In November, the Elusive Chanteuse announced via social media that she had joined the production team of the musical in between prepping for her performance at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and gearing up for another holiday season filled with the familiar strains of “All I Want for Christmas Is You.”

Her seminal holiday hit returned to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart dated December 17 for the fourth consecutive year since it first reached the top of the chart in 2019.

On Tuesday, she also brought her Merry Christmas To All! holiday concert to New York City’s Madison Square Garden, where she was presented with the RIAA certification for the song going diamond last year.

Hulu Releases Trailer for Aubrey Plaza’s Holiday-Themed Rom-Com “Happiest Season”

Aubrey Plaza is ready to ring in the holiday season…

Hulu has released the first trailer for Happiest Season, a holiday-themed romantic comedy starring the 36-year-old actress/comedian and former Parks and Recreation star.

Aubrey Plaza, Happiest Season,

“This is why I avoid Christmas — it brings out the worst in everything,” says the trailer for the film, which also stars Kristen Stewart and Mackenzie Davis.

Here’s the logline: Meeting your girlfriend’s family for the first time can be tough. Planning to propose at her family’s annual Christmas dinner — until you realize that they don’t even know she’s gay — is even harder. When Abby (Stewart) learns that Harper (Davis) has kept their relationship a secret from her family, she begins to question the girlfriend she thought she knew.

Plaza, Stewart and Davis are joined by Alison Brie, Daniel Levy, Mary Holland, Burl Moseley, Victor Garber and Mary Steenburgen in a film that captures the range of emotions tied to wanting your family’s acceptance, being true to yourself and trying not to ruin Christmas.

Sample dialogue: “I’m scared that if I tell them who I really am that I will lose them,” Harper tells Abby. “Do you know how painful it is to watch the person I love hide me?” she replies. Harper: “I’m not hiding you — I’m hiding me.”

Clea DuVall directs from a script she wrote with Mary Holland.

Hulu will premiere the holiday rom-com on Wednesday, November 25 — the day before Thanksgiving.
