ViX Orders “Todo Lo Que Fuimos,” a Relationship Drama Starring Esmeralda Pimentel

Esmeralda Pimentel is celebrating everything she was

TelevisaUnivision streamer ViX has ordered the relationship drama Todo lo Que Fuimos, starring the 34-year-old Mexican actress and model.

Esmeralda PimentelLatinx producer The Immigrant is working on the project about two mothers fighting the urge to be together.

In addition to Pimentel, who most recently starred in High Heat, the project also stars Fátima Molina, Michel Brown and Margarita Muñoz.

The story follows two women with a secret past, with themes touching on relationships, LGBTIA+ issues and family.

Shooting took place in Mexico and New York and production wrapped last week.

Here’s the synopsis: “Natalia and Gala are two mothers who don’t seem to have anything in common, except their children go to the same school. Natalia is the perfect Mexican mom, married to Bruno, the perfect husband and father. Gala is a Chicana from New York who just moved to Mexico with Isa, her wife. But Natalia and Gala keep a secret: years ago, they had a relationship that changed their lives. Now they try to stay away from each other, but they can’t. There is a passion that pulls them together no matter how hard they fight it. A passion that threatens to destroy everything they have.”

Adriana Pelusi, Natalia Castells-Esquivels, Jimena Montemayor and Maria Renee Prudencio are writing and the directors are Pepa San Martin and Montemayor.

“We wanted to produce an elevated melodrama,” said The Immigrant CEO and co-founder Camila Jiménez-Villa in an interview with Deadline. “We wanted to explore universal themes like motherhood, desire, gender roles and belonging, all through characters that are trying to do their best in difficult circumstances.”

Ownership of international rights outside of ViX’s operating territories are still to be decided.

“It would do really beautifully in Europe,” said Jiménez-Villa.

“For a platform like Vix, it’s not a show you would expect,” Montemayor told Deadline. “It’s very wild for them to make a show like this but they gave us a lot of freedom to conceive the world, story and the visual narrative.”

Pelusi said the series subverts the norms of Mexican television as queer characters as usually portrayed as support or sidekicks, adding: “It’s a love story like you’d see in a Mexican soap opera, only with queer characters.”

“While my stories have consistently prioritized characters over plot, Todo lo que Fuimos represents a departure from the thriller, drama, and social justice genres of my previous projects. Instead, this show immerses itself in a narrative that revolves around love, heartbreak, and desire,” said Montemayor.

Judy Reyes to Star in the Lifetime’s Border Separation Film “Torn From Her Arms”

Judy Reyes is a woman Torn

The 53-year-old Dominican American actress and former Scrubs star will lead the cast of Torn From Her ArmsLifetime’s family border separation film.

Judy Reyes,

Hailing from Ozy Media and Motion Picture Corporation of America, the movie will also star Gloria Reuben.

Fátima Molina and Camila Nuñez also star in the timely film, which, amidst the ongoing crisis at the U.S. border, depicts the harrowing true story of a mother and daughter who must find their way back to each other after being separated.

It’s slated to premiere this fall.

Reyes will play Thelma Garcia, a Texas Immigration lawyer who works tirelessly to reunite the pair, while Reuben plays Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist ProPublica reporter, Ginger Thompson, who broke the story.

Originally covered by Ozy’s reporting arm, Torn From Her Arms marks Ozy’s first foray into scripted programming and an expansion of its television catalog.

Based on a true story, Torn From Her Arms follows Cindy Madrid (Molina) and her six-year-old daughter, Ximena (Nuñez), who fled violence in El Salvador for safety in the U.S., only to be separated at the border as a part of the Administration’s Zero Tolerance Policy. Detained in detention centers in different states, Cindy and Ximena endured inhumane living conditions and inadequate medical care, but that was nothing compared to the emotional toll of being apart. Their story would gain national attention when a whistleblower leaked a gut-wrenching audiotape of six-year-old Ximena crying for her mother. The onslaught of media attention incited by Ginger’s story alerted the nation to the cruelties being committed against undocumented immigrant families at the border.
Alan Jonsson Gavica directs from a script written by Tawnya Bhattacharya and Ali Laventhol.

Reyes, who plays “Quiet Ann” on Claws, also appeared on Devious Maids.

Netflix Renews Manolo Cardona’s Spanish Mystery Drama Series for Second Season

The Sara chronicles will continue for Manolo Cardona

Days after the season 1 premiere, Netflix has given a season 2 renewal to Spanish mystery drama series Who Killed Sara?, starring the 43-year-old Colombian actor.

Manolo Cardona,

It’s slated to premiere on May 19 on the streaming service.

In addition to Cardona, the series stars Carolina Miranda, Ginés García Millán, Claudia Ramírez, Eugenio Siller and Alejandro Nones.

Matías Novoa, Daniel Giménez Cacho and Antonio de la Vega have joined the cast of the series for the second season.

In Who Killed Sara?, after 18 years of unjust imprisonment, Alex Guzmán (Cardona) is released from prison with the perfect plan to discover who killed his sister Sara (Ximena Lamadrid) and why the Lazcano family blamed him for the crime. What he doesn’t imagine is that the search for evidence will confront him with a much more dangerous detour than imagined: he will fall in love against his better judgment with Elisa (Miranda), the daughter of his main suspect, and, at the same time, will be horrified to learn that it is Sara’s secrets that will be the main obstacle to reach the truth. Therefore, when he finally confronts the true perpetrator of the crime, Alex will wish he had never begun his revenge.

The second season also will feature Lamadrid, Leo Deluglio, Andrés Baida, Ana Sofía Domínguez, Polo Morín, Luis Roberto Guzmán, Fátima Molina, Ela Velden and Litzy Domínguez among others.

Written by José Ignacio Valenzuela, the series is directed by David “Leche” Ruiz, Carlos Bolado and Poncho Pineda. Juan Uruchurtu produces for Perro Azul.
