Helena Bonham-Carter Joins Voice Cast of Netflix’s “Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance”

Helena Bonham-Carter is putting up some Resistance…

The 52-year-old part Spanish actress has joined the all-star voice cast of Netflix’s forthcoming Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.

Taron Egerton, Anya Taylor-Joy and Nathalie Emmanuel have been cast as respective Gefling heroes Rian, Brea and Deet, while Bonham-Carter, Toby Jones, Alicia Vikander, Simon Pegg and Andy Samberg also lend their voices to the return of Jim Henson’s classic that will launch globally in 2019.

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance is based on Henson’s 1982 feature The Dark Crystal. The series tells a new epic story, set many years before the events of the movie and realized using classic puppetry with cutting-edge visual effects. We find that the world of Thra is dying. At the heart of Thra is the Crystal of Truth, a source of untold power. But it is damaged, corrupted by the evil Skeksis, and a sickness spreads across the land. When three Gelflings uncover the horrific truth behind the power of the Skeksis, an adventure unfolds as the fires of rebellion are lit and an epic battle for the planet begins.

Also joining the voice cast are Caitriona Balfe, Harris Dickinson, Natalie Dormer, Eddie Izzard, Theo James, Shazad Latif, Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Mark Strong.

The Skeksis & Mystics will be voiced by Harvey Fierstein, Mark Hamill, Ralph Ineson, Jason Isaacs,Keegan-Michael Keyand Ólafur Darri Ólafsson. Aughra will be voiced by Donna Kimball.

Additional characters will also be voiced by puppeteers from the production.

Helena Bonham Carter In Talks to Play Princess Margaret on Netflix’s “The Crown”

Helena Bonham Carter may have a new crowning achievement on her resume…

The 51-year-old part-Spanish actress is in talks to portray Princess Margaret on the upcoming third season of Netflix’s The Crown, according to sources.

Netflix had no comment.

Carter would take over the role played in the first two seasons by Vanessa Kirby.

The second season premiered December 8 on Netflix. In it, Margaret married Antony Armstrong-Jones, the Earl of Snowdon (Matthew Goode) and the season ended with her pregnant with one of their children.

The Crown, created by Peter Morgan, tells the inside story of Queen Elizabeth II’s early reign as the fragile social order established after World War II breaks apart.

It was announced earlier that Olivia Colman would be replacing Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth in the upcoming third and fourth seasons, which have not yet been ordered but are expected. Morgan previously said he intended to replace key cast members in later seasons, to better portray the characters as they aged.

Carter, star of Sweeney Todd: The Demon of Fleet Street and Alice in Wonderland among others, will next be seen in Warner Bros.’ Ocean’s 8, the female-driven caper spinoff directed by Gary Ross. She’s also the voice of Margaret Conroy in Fun Academy Motion Pictures’ first animated family film Sgt. Stubby: An American Hero.

Trailer Released for Bonham Carter’s “Alice Through The Looking Glass”

Helena Bonham Carter is a glass act…

The first full trailer for Alice Through The Looking Glass – the sequel to Disney’s 2010 blockbuster Alice In Wonderland – has been released, featuring the 49-year-old part-Spanish actress reprising her role as Iracebeth of Crims, the Red Queen.

For the original film, Bonham Carter’s head was digitally increased to three times its original size on screen.

Along with Bonham Carter, Alice Through The Looking Glass returns most of the cast — among them Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway, Mia Wasikowska and the voices of Stephen Fry, Alan Rickman and Michael Sheen — and screenwriter Linda Wolverton but not original director Tim Burton (he’s a producer on this one, with Muppets helmer James Bobin taking over).

Among the newcomers is Sacha Baron Cohen, who portrays a major cog in this new story based on Lewis Carroll’s original: he plays Time, who is part-human, part-clock (and has borrowed some outfits from Brüno’s closet apparently). When Alice returns to a much different Wonderland, she must go on a quest to borrow the Chronosphere, a metallic globe inside the Grand Clock’s chamber. This sends her into the past, where she comes across friends and enemies at different points in their lives, and a race to save Depp’s Hatter (looking quite put out here) before time runs out.

The 3D pic has a May 27, 2016 release date.

Trailer Released for Bonham Carter’s “Suffragette”

It’s women’s (rights) work for Helena Bonham Carter…

The official trailer has been released for the 49-year-old part-Spanish actress’ latest film Suffragette, co-starring Meryl Streep and Carey Mulligan.

Directed by Sarah Gavron’s drama and written by Abi Morgan, the film centers on early members of the British women’s suffrage movement of the late 19th and early 20th century.

Inspired by true events, the film also stars Ben Whishaw, Anne-Marie Duff, Brendan Gleeson, Romola Garai, and Natalie Press.

The film debuts October 23 in New York and Los Angeles, expanding October 30 and November 6 to additional cities.

Pathé to Release Bonham Carter’s “Suffragette” in October

Helena Bonham Carter is bringing the historic fight for women’s voting rights to the big screen in the United Kingdom…

Pathé has announced plans to release Suffragette, starring the 48-year-old part-Spanish actress, on October 30 in the UK.

From director Sarah Gavron, the drama also stars Carey Mulligan and Meryl Streep. Focus Features has set Suffragette for a domestic awards season release on October 23.

The film tracks the story of the foot soldiers of the early feminist movement as they fought for the right to vote in Britain. Radicalized and turning to violence as the only route to change, they were willing to lose everything in their fight for equality. The pic centers on Maud (Mulligan), a working wife and mother who decides she must fight for her dignity both at home and in her workplace.

With the UK’s General Election coming up on May 7, and given that nine million women failed to vote in the 2010 election, there is a major campaign under way in Britain to get women to register by the April 20 deadline. In support of the movement, Pathé has released a new teaser trailer.

“Never give up the fight,” Streep’s Emmeline Pankhurst tells Mulligan’s Maud.

Brendan Gleeson, Anne-Marie Duff and Ben Whishaw also star. Abi Morgan wrote the script.

Disney Releases New Trailer for “Cinderella” Featuring a Peek at Bonham Carter as the Fairy Godmother

Cinderella isn’t the only one getting a makeover…

Disney has released a sneak peek at its upcoming live-action fairy tale Cinderella, featuring Helena Bonham Carter as the Fairy Godmother getting her own magical makeover.

The clip was released on New Year’s Eve, appropriately enough, at the stroke of midnight.

In addition to a closer look Bonham Carter’s chartacter, the 60-second video — posted on the movie’s official Twitter account — offers more glimpses at the infamous glass slippers, the coach and other iconic images associated with the fairy tale.

Kenneth Branagh directs the live-action retelling of the classic story, starring Cate Blanchett as the wicked stepmother and Downton Abbey‘s Lily James as Ella.

When the trailer for the movie was released in November, it was viewed 4.2 million times on YouTube and 33 million times on Facebook in the first 24 hours, the biggest showing in history for a Disney movie, excluding Marvel Comics releases.

Cinderella opens in theaters on March 13.

Bustamante’s Debut Feature “Ixcanul” to Premiere at the Berlin Film Festival

Jayro Bustamante  is headed to Germany…

The Guatemalan director’s first feature film Ixcanul has been chosen as one of the first seven films for the 65th Berlin Film Festival Competition program.

The film, which Bustamante wrote, centers on a 17 year-old Mayan Kaqchikel girl named Maria, who lives with her parents in a coffee plantation on the side of an active volcano in Guatemala. She’s part of an arranged marriage she doesn’t want but can’t escape her fate.

Bustamante’s short films have earned him acclain at a number of film festivals. The most recent, Cuando sea grande, premiered at the Clermont-Ferrand Festival in 2012, where it landed the CNC (Centre national du cinéma et de l’image animée) quality award and was aired on television networks in France, Sweden and the Netherlands.

The film stars María Mercedes Croy, María Telón, Manuel Antún, Justo Lorenzo and Marvin Coroy.

Also in the Berlinale mix is Kenneth Branagh’s live-action Disney film Cinderella, although it’s playing out of competition. Lily James plays the titular role, while Helena Bonham Carter portrays the fairy godmother.

Other films that made the first cut include Peter Greenaway’s Eisenstein In Guanajuato. Shot in Mexico, the film stars Stelio Savante, Lisa Owen and Maya Zapata. It follows Eisenstein as he spends 10 days in 1931 in Guanajuato, Mexico, where he falls in love. His sensual experiences there turn out to have been crucial in his life and his films. From being a formal filmmaker with films about conceptual ideas, his trip to Mexico humanizes Eisenstein as a filmmaker, and his films become more sympathetic to the human condition.

Berlinale runs from February 5-15.

Bonham Carter to Star in Steve McQueen’s HBO Drama Pilot “Codes Of Conduct”

Helena Bonham Carter is playing by a new code of conduct…

The 48-year-old part-Spanish actress has been cast in Steve McQueen’s HBO drama pilot Codes Of Conduct.

Bonham Carter joins Rebecca Hall, Devon Terrell and Paul Dano in the project — a provocative exploration of a young black man’s experience entering New York high society.

Co-written by McQueen and Matthew Michael Carnahan, Codes Of Conduct centers on Beverly Snow (Terrell), a young man from Queens as talented as he is ambiguous. His self-confidence will enable him to break into the social circles of Manhattan’s elite, testing the boundaries of access and social mobility.

Bonham Carter will portray author and psychiatrist Esther Kaufmann. Born into a prominent Jewish family in Manhattan, the divorced mother of two grown boys is now living life on her own terms – terms that change dramatically though after she crosses paths with the enigmatic Beverly Snow.

Helena Bonham-Carter is making dreams come true…

Disney has released a new trailer for the Kenneth Branagh-helmed live-action film Cinderella, starring the 48-year-old part-Spanish actress as the fairy godmother.

Downton Abbey‘s Lily James stars in the title role, and Cate Blanchett plays the evil stepmother, Lady Tremaine. Richard Madden stars as the Prince, Derek Jacobi portrays the King, and Stellan Skarsgård is the King’s scheming adviser.

Cinderella opens in theaters on March 13.

Louis C.K. Collects Five Primetime Emmy Award Nominations

Louis C.K. is still a Primetime Emmy Awards darling…

Following a record-setting nine nominations last year, the 46-year-old Mexican American actor/comedian cleaned up once again during Thursday morning’s Emmy nominations.

Louis C.K., a four-time Emmy-winner, earned five nominations for the 66th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, the most individual nominations of anyone, Latino and non-Latino, this year.

Louis C.K., the creator of FX’s dark comedy series Louie, is nominated for Actor in a Comedy for his laugh-inducing performance as the show’s title character.

His behind-the-scenes work on Louie has also resulted in nods in the Writing for a Comedy Series and Directing for a Comedy Series categories. Louis C.K., one of the executive producers onthe show, saw the series receive a Comedy Series nomination.

And last but certainly not least, Louis C.K. earned a nomination in the Guest Actor in a Comedy Series category for hosting an episode of Saturday Night Live earlier this year. The actor/comedian, a two-time SNL host, has earned Emmy love for both his hosting stints on the long-running NBC sketch comedy series.

But Louis C.K. isn’t the only Latino to receive multiple nominations…

Fred Armisen, a former Saturday Night Live cast member, earned a Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series nod for portraying various characters on his critically acclaimed IFC satirical sketch comedy series Portlandia.

The 47-year-old half-Venezuelan American actor, who created the series with co-star Carrie Brownstein, also earned a nod in the Writing for a Variety Series for hisbehind-the-scenes work on the series.

Helena Bonham Carter, a two-time Oscar nominee, has earned her third career Primetime Emmy nod. The 48-year-old part-Spanish actress earned her first nomination in 11 years in the Actress in a Miniseries or a Movie category for her portrayal of the late Elizabeth Taylor in the BBC/BBC America production Burton and Taylor.

Alfred Molina earned his first-ever Primetime Emmy Award nomination. The 61-year-old half-Spanish actor is nominated in the Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie category for his performance in HBO’s The Normal Heart.

Lin-Manuel Miranda, who earned his first-ever Daytime Emmy Award nod earlier this year, now has his first Primetime Emmy Award nomination.

The Tony Award– and Grammy-winning American composer, rapper, lyricist and actor picked up the nod in the Original Music and Lyrics category for penning the lyrics to “Bigger!,”a tune performed by Neil Patrick Harris at the 2013 Tony Awards.

The 66th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards will be held on Monday August 25, 2014 at the Nokia Theatre in Downtown Los Angeles, and will be broadcast live by NBC.
