Vanessa Zamora to Perform at the First-Ever Edition of OutMusik Festival on National Coming Out Day

The 29-year-old Mexican singer, songwriter and composer will celebrate National Coming Out Day by taking part in the first-ever edition of OutMusik Festival.

In addition to Zamora, the list of performers set to take the stage on October 11 include Georgel, Javiera Mena, Zemmoa, Mabiland and Christian Chavez, among others.

The virtual festival will feature artists who form part of the LGBTQ+ community, as well as allies who’ll be sending motivational messages to the community.

Georgel, Raymix and Esteman will serve as hosts of the first OutMusik Fest.

“I didn’t grow up with openly and well represented LGBTQ+ icons to identify with in mainstream media, which a lot of times led me to feel like I didn’t exist or this life wasn’t  worth living,” Georgel tells Billboard. “OutMusik represents an evolved world as I perceive it, a platform where LGBTQ+ artists express their truth through performance and audiences feel represented.”

“Music is a powerful medium to tell stories and send messages that tell our reality,” adds Esteman. “The more visible our stories, we won’t have to put labels and instead celebrate who we are.”

Presenters and allies who will be of the celebration include Karol G, Chiquis, Maite Perroni, Lila Downs, Francisca Valenzuela and Gepe.

The festival will be streamed on the website OutMusik.Com, which will remain post-festival and will serve as a resource center for the LGBTQ+ community. Access to the live stream will be free but viewers will have the option of donating.

Proceeds will go toward to organizations It Gets Better and The Trevor Project.

Nat Geo Releasing Docuseries Episode About the Late Gustavo Cerati

National Geographic Latin America‘s TV network has released a poignant teaser for its upcoming docuseries episode about the Argentine singer-songwriter, composer and producer, considered one of the most important and influential figures of Ibero-American rock.

In the 30-second clip, the late Soda Stereo frontman sings “Happy Birthday” to his then baby son Benito in an archival home video shot by the Argentine musician himself.

The Cerati episode from Nat Geo’s BIOS series is due out in late fall for viewing in Latin America, according to a press release from the channel.

In the series, which is also set to include an episode about Argentine rock pioneer Charly Garcia, a participatory narrator follows the path of the subject’s life and career.

In this case, Chilean pop artist Javiera Mena will reveal the details about Cerati, through interviews with his children, Benito and Lisa; his former wife, Cecilia Amenábar, and others. The episode will show previously unseen footage.

September 4 will mark four years since Cerati died after having an aneurysm and going into a coma following a concert in 2010. As part of the now legendary Soda Stereo and with his subsequent solo career, he transcended his enormous popularity in Argentina to become one of the most influential artists that the Spanish-speaking world has known.

The two-hour documentary episode was directed by Sebastián Ortega, who is well-known in Argentina for his extensive work in television. “Gustavo Cerati is one of the greatest poets of our contemporary music,” Ortega said in the announcement from Nat Geo. “An artist with great sensitivity and unique inspiration who gave us some of the most original songs of Ibero-America of all time.”

Justin Quiles Added to Deezer NEXT 2018 Roster

Justin Quiles has NEXT…

The 28-year-old Puerto Rican reggaeton singer has been added to Deezer NEXT 2018, which focus on new emerging talent with a special emphasis on Latin artists.

The Deezer NEXT program includes 12 months of profile development, playlisting and taking part in creative artist marketing campaigns.

Quiles, who has written for artists like Daddy Yankee, Lil Jon and Maluma, joins a new roster that includes Brytiago, Greeicy and Javiera Mena.

Quiles has been signed to record label Rich Music. And in February 2017, the label and Quiles signed a distribution deal with Warner Music‘s Latin division.

Brytiago is signed to Daddy Yankee’s El Cartel Records and is the first Latin artist to be named a local Deezer NEXT act in both the US and in Latin America. The Puerto Rican singer was endorsed by the “big boss.”

“I am always looking for artists with longevity over an ‘in the moment’ artist without lasting power,” said Yankee.

Mena is a Latin Grammy nominee and Chilean Indie electro-pop musician; and Greeicy is a Colombian actress, singer-songwriter.

“I am excited for the journey with Deezer NEXT and look forward to being able to bring my songs to more people than ever before,” said Brytiago.

Deezer Next 2018 Latin class also includes Irie Kingz, a Colombian duo comprised of Oliva and Yeyo mixing Spanish and English known for “Me Want Party” and Mike Bahía, a Colombian popstar. Both acts were announced earlier this year.

Venegas to Perfom at Chicago’s Ruido Fest

Julieta Venegas is ready to make some ruido in the Windy City…

The 46-year-old Mexican American singer will take the stage at Chicago’s 2017 Ruido Fest.

Venegas, a Grammy and Latin Grammy-winning singer, joins a lineup that includes Cultura Profética and Molotov.

Adding a norteño twist to the alt-rock set of performers is legendary band Intocable, who will perform alongside Alejandro Marcovich, former Caifanes guitarist.

Other bands set to perform include Bomba Estéreo, Fobia, Duncan Dhu, Titan, Mon Laferte, Javiera Mena, Alex Anwandter, Adan Jodorowsky and Buscabulla. More artists will be announced in the upcoming months.

The third annual Ruido Fest will take place on July 7-9 at Addams/Medill Park with tickets for the three-day fest on sale now.

“We are very appreciative of the support of the local and international community that have supported,” Ruido Fest founder Max Wagner said in a statement.

“We always are looking to reward the faith that the fans show in us by striving to bring in the best talent, and provide opportunities for artists that don’t receive a lot of chances to perform in this country. Our goal this year, and every year, is to provide the best experience and best value possible for our loyal fans.”

Last year’s performers included Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, Panteon Rococó, Carla Morrison, Natalia Lafourcade, Aterciopelados and Maldita Vecindad.
