Feid Among Headlining Acts at Lollapalooza Argentina & Lollapalooza Chile

It’s Lollapalooza time for Feid.

The 31-year-old Colombian singer and songwriter is among the acts slated to headline the 2024 editions of Lollapalooza in South America.

Feid will be one of the headlining acts at Lollapalooza Argentina and Lollapalooza Chile. 

But he isn’t the only Latinx artist scheduled to perform at Lollapalooza in South America.

Omar Apollo and Jared Leto’s Thirty Seconds to Mars will perform in Argentina, Chile and at Lollapalooza Brasil.

Grupo Frontera will perform at the popular festival’s editions in Argentina and Chile.

Tickets are now on sale for the events in South America, which will take place from March 15 to 17 in Argentina at the Hipódromo de San Isidro in Buenos Aires; from March 15 to 17 in Chile at the Parque Bicentenario de Cerrillos in Santiago; and from March 24 to 26 in Brazil at the Autódromo de Interlagos in Sao Paulo.

The Argentina shows will feature many of the same acts, along with YSY A, Phoenix, Miranda!, Jungle, Cristian Castro, Kenia Os, GALE and more.

The Chilean edition will also feature performances by Chencho Corleone, Francisca Valenzuela and Ana Tijoux, to name a few.

While in Brazil, most of those mentioned will perform, in addition to Meduza, Above and Beyond, Gilberto Gil, Céu and many more.

The lineups were announced Tuesday (Nov. 7) on social media and via press release.

In total, the program includes over 100 acts of varied genres and nationalities, who will be taking stages in each of the three South American cities.

The original Lollapalooza festival — which began as a U.S. tour in the early ’90s and then set up shop annually in Chicago in 2003 — has expanded over the years to countries that also include Germany, Sweden and France. The first edition outside the United States was in Chile, in 2011. Brazil debuted a year later and Argentina in 2014.

Francisca Valenzuela is blossoming with new music…

The 34-year-old Chilean American singer-songwriter has released the new single “Como La Flor.”

Francisca ValenzuelaIn the pop-ballad track, Valenzuela delivers a message of resistance that touches on thriving in a world that tears you down over and over again.

“We are the flower in the middle of war, the light that will illuminate sadness… we are love, always love,” she sings evocatively.

Produced by Ali Stone and Sebastian Krys, the single is an homage to Selena’s 1992 heartbreak anthem.

“When I wrote this song during the pandemic, at a difficult time for all of us, I felt like my idols and artists that I love would keep me company. They would contain me, be my friends,” Valenzuela said.

Francisca Valenzuela is heading south (by southwest)…

SXSW has announced its first slate of artists for the popular Austin festival’s virtual event, with the 33-year-old Chilean American feminist pop powerhouse set to make an appearance during the March 16-20 digital experience.

Valenzuela rose to acclaim in Chile and Latin America following the release of her debut album, Muérdete La Lengua in June 2007. Her second album, Buen Soldado, followed in March 2011. Valenzuela has earned both gold and platinum album certification in Chile.

As a virtual event, the roster of SXSW artists is especially international this year, with performances scheduled from Indonesian indie jangle-pop trio Grrrl Gang; Nigerian-born, London-raised U.K. Afrobeats singer Darkoo; rising Spanish-Cuban Latin pop sensation Samantha Sanchez; and Canadian live-electronic/dance experimentalists Holy F–k among the first round of artists.

In addition to Valenzuela and Sanchez, other Latinx artists scheduled to take part in this year’s SXSW virtual event include Alien Tango, BELAKO, Candeleros, Dayramir Gonzalez, El Shirota, Los Blenders, Luisa e os Alquimistas, Petite Amie, Ruido Rosa, Tuyo, Vaya Futuro and Vocal Vidas.

Passholders will have access to these unique artists performing from their home countries with streaming available via web, mobile, and the SXSW Online Connected TV app (Apple TV, Fire TV, Roku, Samsung TV Plus, and Android TV). Select content will be viewable in VR via SXSW Online XR. This year’s SXSW Online passes begin at $249 and will go up to $399 in March. Passholders get access to conference keynotes and featured speakers, mentor sessions and workshops, musical showcases and events, comedy showcases and podcast, online exhibitions and more.

Previously announced speakers include Queen Latifah, The Chainsmokers, LL Cool J and a keynote from Willie Nelson.

Vanessa Zamora to Perform at the First-Ever Edition of OutMusik Festival on National Coming Out Day

Vanessa Zamora’s ready to express her Pride…

The 29-year-old Mexican singer, songwriter and composer will celebrate National Coming Out Day by taking part in the first-ever edition of OutMusik Festival.

In addition to Zamora, the list of performers set to take the stage on October 11 include Georgel, Javiera Mena, Zemmoa, Mabiland and Christian Chavez, among others.

The virtual festival will feature artists who form part of the LGBTQ+ community, as well as allies who’ll be sending motivational messages to the community.

Georgel, Raymix and Esteman will serve as hosts of the first OutMusik Fest.

“I didn’t grow up with openly and well represented LGBTQ+ icons to identify with in mainstream media, which a lot of times led me to feel like I didn’t exist or this life wasn’t  worth living,” Georgel tells Billboard. “OutMusik represents an evolved world as I perceive it, a platform where LGBTQ+ artists express their truth through performance and audiences feel represented.”

“Music is a powerful medium to tell stories and send messages that tell our reality,” adds Esteman. “The more visible our stories, we won’t have to put labels and instead celebrate who we are.”

Presenters and allies who will be of the celebration include Karol G, Chiquis, Maite Perroni, Lila Downs, Francisca Valenzuela and Gepe.

The festival will be streamed on the website OutMusik.Com, which will remain post-festival and will serve as a resource center for the LGBTQ+ community. Access to the live stream will be free but viewers will have the option of donating.

Proceeds will go toward to organizations It Gets Better and The Trevor Project.

Francisca Valenzuela to Take Part in the Grammy Museum’s Mentorship Monday Program

The 33-year-old Chilean American singer, poet and multi-instrumentalist will take part in the Grammy Museum’s new Mentorship Monday program in partnership with Grammy U and former First Lady Michelle Obama‘s Reach Higher initiative.

Every Monday beginning next week through August 31, top-tier music industry professionals like Valenzuela will mentor college students and recent graduates via digital conferencing. 

In addition to Valenzuela, mentors include artists Sam Fischer, Tikyra “TK” Jackson, Ledisi, three-time Grammy winners Little Big Town, Melanie Pfirrman and Sasha Sloan, as well as Recording Academy members. 

The sessions will give students an opportunity to connect with established music industry professionals and creatives, and will serve as a valuable tool for information, advice and exploration within a wide variety of music careers and topics as they pursue their own careers.

“The Grammy Museum’s new Mentorship Monday program exemplifies the Museum’s mission to uphold music’s value in our lives through education and collaboration between professionals and aspiring creatives,” said Michael Sticka, president of the Grammy Museum. “I’d like to thank Reach Higher and Grammy U for helping make this program a reality.”

While the sessions are currently invitation-only, a selection will be released in the future as part of Reach Higher’s Beating the Odds Summit, and a selection of public-facing mentorship sessions will be available via Instagram Live.

 Valenzuela released her latest album, La Fortaleza, in January.The album consists of 14 tracks, including the singles “Tómame,” “Héroe” and “Flotando.”

Mala Rodriguez to Perform During the Virtual Edition of the Latin Alternative Music Conference

Mala Rodriguez is offering a special alternative for people stuck at home during this coronavirus pandemic.

The 41-year-old Spanish Latin Grammy-winning rapper will take this in this year’s Latin Alternative Music Conference, which will be held live online.

This year, the annual Latin Alternative Music Conference will officially kick off on Tuesday, June 9 withg a variety of virtual industry panels, workshops and showcases that will live.

Amid the global COVID-19 pandemic and as the nation begins to reopen gradually, the LAMC‘s five-day virtual conference includes timely panels like “The Future of Touring” with panelists Jordi Puig (OCESA), Phil Rodriguez (Move Concerts) and Sebastian De la Barra (Lotus Producciones).

And, “Mental Health and the Creative Community” presented by MusiCares and the Latin Grammys featuring Carla Morrison, Kany García, Ana Tijoux and Guaynaa.

LAMC’s Talks with Billboard Latin will feature Leila Cobo‘s fireside chats with Walter Kolm and ChocQuibTown‘s Gloria “Goyo” Martínez.’

Rodriguez will perform on June 9 as part of peermusic‘s showcase. Other participating artists include Thee Sinseers, Gaby Moreno and Lido Pimienta.

Francisca Valenzuela, Tatiana Hazel, Los Caligaris, among others will perform during the LAMC. 

On closing night, LAMC will celebrate Pride Month with performances by Kany García, Mabiland, Circo and Javiera Mena.

“Providing a forum to discuss the issues we face and the potential solutions that lie ahead is key as we look towards the future,” LAMC founder Tomas Cookman said in a previous statement. “Although the days ahead may be slightly different for a time, we should always keep in mind there is very much a future as music is a human and global emotion. We are lending our hand by making the conference free for all and having a team of professionals join us in making sure the LAMC experience is as informative and technologically seamless as can be.”

Francisca Valenzuela Releases New Album “La Fortaleza”

Francisca Valenzuela is back with new music…

The 32-year-old Chilean-American singer-songwriter has released her highly anticipated fourth album, La Fortaleza.

It had been six years since Valenzuela had released a new album. 

“What was I doing these last six years? Good question,” the Chilean singer-songwriter said in a phone interview with Billboard. “Getting my sh– together and making a commitment to music and to art on my own terms.”

The 14-track pop album, which she says “became more of a diary,” explores the ups and downs of life and finding the strength to embark on a journey that will take you from darkness to light. The lyrics also stay true to her commitment to champion femininity and feminism.

The musician and entrepreneur, who founded Ruidosa, a Latinx feminist festival and digital platform that celebrates women “making noise,” says the revolution in Chile had an impact on her personally and musically.

 La Fortalezawas ready to be released in 2019 but was postponed and “for all good reason,” she says. “There are other priorities too, and that’s fine.” 

In October, the government’s decision to increase subway fares in Chile sparked massive protests that turned deadly and violent. 

The protests gave a new meaning to a track on the album titled “Al Final del Mundo” and inspired Francisca to write new songs that she promises will be released eventually.
