Becky G Releases New Album “Esquinas”

Becky G is turning a new corner(s)

The 26-year-old Mexican American singer/rapper has released the new album Esquinas via Kemosabe Records/RCA Records.

Becky GBeck G’s new album is a heartfelt exploration of her dual identity as a proud 200 percenter. The title translates to “corners,” symbolizing the meeting point between two cultures.

Celebrating her Mexican and American roots, the Inglewood native weaves a vibrant musical tapestry that spans corridos, rancheras and baladas while showcasing her deep reverence for her heritage.

For instance, “2ndo Chance,” featuring Ivan Cornejo’s haunting vocals, kicks off the album with a dreamy, nostalgic ballad that sets the tone for an introspective journey through her bicultural upbringing. Then there’s the cheeky “Cries in Spanish,” a whimsical duet with fellow Mexican-American DannyLux, that’s set to sad sierreño. The album’s latest single, “Querido Abuelo,” stands as a touching tribute to her late grandfather, a gut-wrenching balada which honors the sacrifices made by our ancestors as children of immigrants. Becky’ Gs vocals are at their most poignant here, manifesting her maturity and emotional depth.

Also starring Yahritza y Su Esencia, Chiquis, Angela and Leonardo Aguilar, Peso Pluma, and Gabito Ballesteros, her third studio album is a testament to her growth as a “genreless” artist, she claims, and her commitment to representing her bloodline proudly.

The sultry lyrics of the mellow reggaeton track, released under Kemosabe Records, sing: “Otra noche sola en mi cama, las seis de la mañana y tu ni si quiera me llamas.”

In previous songs, the pop-rap artist had mixed Spanish words into her English tracks like “Play It Again” and “Can’t Get Enough,” but this time around, Becky G sings completely in español.

“I’ve been working on what will be my first Spanish album. I know this came out of nowhere but when I went on tour with J Balvin, I felt that it was a different world when you’re doing Latin Spanish urban music,” she told Billboard. “Us Latinos we’re loud, we want to sing and dance and seeing Balvin’s style of music resonate with people that way, I knew I wanted to be a part of that cause that’s also who I am and a side of me that I’m very proud of. Although I don’t speak Spanish perfectly, singing it is much easier to do and I just love the way it sounds.”

Becky G’s “Can’t Get Enough” Reaches No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Rhythm Airplay Chart

The track, which Becky G released in English and Spanish, also gives Pitbull his fifth No. 1 on the chart. The coronation additionally scores the track’s producer, Dr. Luke, his first No. 1 on any Latin ranking.

Becky G, who was named Best New Artist at this year’s Radio Disney Music Awards, has been a protégé of Dr. Luke since he signed her to his Kemosabe Records imprint in 2011.

“Can’t Get Enough” enters Hot Latin Songs as the Hot Shot Debut at No. 10.

Per chart policy, in order to maintain its standing as a Spanish-language-based songs chart, only download sales of the Spanish version will count toward Hot Latin Songs, as will airplay accumulated by either version on Nielsen BDS-monitored Latin Airplay stations.

In addition, a portion of streaming points are incorporated, mirroring the song’s ratio of Spanish-to-English weekly download sales.

On Latin Airplay, the track leaps 21-2, climbing to 10.7 million audience impressions, a 90 percent surge.

A music video for the song is expected to be released on VEVO shortly.

Becky G is set to be a supporting act on a handful of Katy Perry dates on her Prismatic World Tour, which includes two shows in Mexico in October.
