Oona Chaplin to Star in Netflix’s Drama Series “Treason”

Oona Chaplin has landed a treasonous role…

The 35-year-old half-Chilean Spanish-born actress will star in Netflix’s six-part drama series Treason.

Chaplin, the granddaughter of Charlie Chaplin, will star alongside Olga Kurylenko and Charlie Cox in the spy series, which hails from Oscar-nominated Bridge of Spies screenwriter Matt Charman.

The drama follows Adam Lawrence, trained and groomed by MI6, whose career seems set. But when the past catches up with him in the form of Kara, a Russian spy with whom he shares a complicated past, he is forced to question everything and everyone in his life. A triangular relationship forms between Kara, Adam and his wife, Maddy; three people who are trying to expose each other’s secrets, navigate political and diplomatic relationships, whilst hanging onto their personal lives, and those they love most.

The series is produced by Binocular Productions, Charman’s production company, and marks its first major project. Creator Charman will write, showrun and exec produce the series. Foz Allan, who has executive produced series including Riviera, will executive produce alongside Valery Ryan, who is head of drama at Binocular. Louise Hooper, who has helmed episode of The Witcher, will direct.

Treason, which is described as The Bodyguard meets John Le Carre, comes out of Netflix’s UK division and was commissioned by VP Series Anne Mensah.

Chaplin’s previous credits include Game of Thrones, The Crimson Field and The Comey Rule.

Saban Films To Release Antonio Banderas’ Action Film “Gun Shy” in September

Antonio Banderas isn’t Shy-ing away from movie theaters..

Saban Films has acquired Gun Shy, starring the 56-year-old Spanish actor, for theatrical release.

The film, directed by Simon West and previously titled Salty, will be released on September 8.

Olga Kurylenko (Quantum of Solace, Oblivion) also stars in the action film, which was written by Toby Davies and Mark Haskell Smith.

The film was adapted from the novel also written by Smith and follows Turk Henry (Banderas) as an aging mid-level rock star whose supermodel wife (Kurylenko) is suddenly kidnapped while they are vacationing in Chile. Accustomed to his superstar lifestyle and lacking basic life-skills, Turk finds himself perplexed in having to navigate the back alleys of Santiago and South American jungles in order to save his wife from the renegades.

Jaenada Starring in Terry Gilliam’s “The Man Who Killed Don Quixote”

The 41-year-old Spanish actor has landed a role in Terry Gilliam’s long-delayed film The Man Who Killed Don Quixote.

Jaenada, who gained acclaimed for portraying Mexican comedic legend Cantinflas in a biopic of the same name, joins a cast that includes Adam Driver and Olga Kurylenko.

The film centers on an advertising executive who returns to his Spanish village, where as a student he made a film based on Don Quixote, only to get entangled in a series of catastrophes.

Gilliam co-wrote the script with Tony Grisoni and Amazon Studios will distribute the film domestically.

Jaenada’s upcoming film slate includes Fox’s Snatched with Amy Schumer and Goldie Hawn and the Fernando Leon de Aranoa-directed biopic Escobar, opposite Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem.

del Toro to Receive Heart of Sarajevo Award at the Sarajevo Film Festival

Benicio del Toro has a little extra heart…

The 48-year-old Puerto Rican actor, an Academy Award and Golden Globe winner, will receive the Heart of Sarajevo Award for his contribution to the art of cinema at this year’s Sarajevo Film Festival.

Previous recipients for the award, which was designed by French designer, filmmaker and festival patron Agnes B, include Angelina Jolie, Gael Garcia Bernal and Steve Buscemi.

del Toro will present Fernando Leon de Aranoa’s drama A Perfect Day, in which he has a starring role alongside Tim Robbins and Olga Kurylenko, at the festival’s open-air screening venue, where del Toro will receive the award in front of a 3,000-strong crowd. The film premiered in Directors’ Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival.

The actor will also hold a master class for the participants of Talents Sarajevo, a networking and training platform for emerging film professionals from South-East Europe and the Southern Caucasus.

del Toro won an Academy Award for supporting actor for his role in Steven Soderbergh’s Traffic, and an Oscar nomination for his work in Alejandro Gonzales Inarritu’s 21 Grams.

Reteaming with Soderbergh to star in Che, the biography of Che Guevera, del Toro’s performance won him the best actor award at Cannes in 2008.

Del Toro can be seen next starring in Denis Villeneuve’s Sicario, alongside Emily Blunt and Josh Brolin, which is scheduled for a September 18 release by Lionsgate in the U.S.

Trailer Released for Bardem’s Next Film “To the Wonder”

Magnolia Pictures has released the trailer for Terrence Malick’s latest film To the Wonder, with Javier Bardem narrarating.

Starring Bardem, Ben Affleck, Olga Kurylenko and Rachel McAdams, “To the Wonder” focuses on a man who reconnects with a woman from his hometown in Oklahoma after his marriage to a European woman falls apart.

Affleck plays the said man, while Kurylenko stars as the French woman. McAdams portrays another woman who divides Affleck’s affection, and Bardem plays a priest seeking  spiritual fulfillment.

The trailer for the film – which elicited strong reactions when it debuted earlier this year, first in Venice and then in Toronto – is filled with beautiful shots of natural landscapes and people sharing love with one another.

To the Wonder will be released next year.

Morales to Appear on Starz’s “Magic City”

The 49-year-old Puerto Rican actor has signed to star in Starz‘s Miami-set period drama Magic City.

Set in 1959 Miami just after the Cuban Revolution, Magic City tells the story of Ike Evans (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), the owner of Miami’s glitzy Miramar Playa hotel, who is forced to make a deal with local mob boss Ben Diamond (Danny Huston).

Morales, an NYPD Blue alum, will play Carlos Ruiz, a former rebel who once fought beside Castro but now works to free Cuba from the man he once considered a brother.

Morales—who rose to acclaim for his role as Ritchie Valens’ troubled brother in the 1987 biopic La Bamba—recently recurred on Fairly Legal and Caprica.

Filming on Season 2 of Magic City starts this week in Miami for a 2013 premiere.

Returning are creator/executive producer Mitch Glazer and cast members Morgan, Olga Kurylenko, Yul Vazquez, Dominik Garcia-Lorido and Elena Satine.

Cruz the Star of Campari’s 2013 Calendar

Penelope Cruz will be the lady in red” next year…

The 38-year-old Spanish actress is starring in Campari’s latest calendar.

In the 2013 installment, Cruz will appear in a series of seductive images by German photographer Kristian Schuller that were shot on location at an elegant, classic Parisian palace.

Cruz, who just recently saw a wax figure of her likeness installed at the The Grevin Wax Museum in Paris, wears a series of burgundy outfits in the photos. In one series, Cruz’s hair flows loosely; in another her hair swept back in a bun.

Cruz even resembles the legendary Audrey Hepburn in some of the shots, especially with the way her is styled.

The calendar for the Italian aperitif maker will debut in Milan this fall with a run of 9,000 copies. In addition, the images will appear in Campari’s advertising.
