Karol G Wins Big at Latin American Music Awards with Six Trophies

Karol G is this year’s Latin AMAs darling…

The 31-year-old Colombian singer proved to be the biggest winner at the seventh annual Latin American Music Awards, earning six awards at the ceremony that celebrates the best of Latin music.

Karol GKarol G took home the most coveted award of the night, Artist of the Year. She also prevailed as Female Artist of the Year and Favorite Urban Artist.

Her third studio album, KG0516, was voted Album of the Year and Favorite Urban Album, and she picked up a Favorite Collaboration Award for her track “Makinón,” with Miami native Mariah Angelique.

Bad Bunny, who came into the ceremony as the most-nominated artist, followed close behind with five awards.

The 28-year-old Puerto Rican artist’s five awards included Song of the Year, Favorite Male Artist and Favorite Urban Song for his multiplatinum single “Dákiti,” with Jhay Cortez.

He also nabbed the award for Favorite Tropical Song “Volví,” and Viral Song of the Year for “AM.”

Argentine singer María Becerra, whose debut album Animal was released last summer, won Best New Artist.

This year’s Latin AMAs were hosted by Jacqueline Bracamontes, Rafael Amaya and Cristián de la Fuente and broadcast on Telemundo from the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.

Latin AMAs voting is fan-driven with nominations based on streaming, sales, airplay and social activity tracked by Billboard from February 6, 2021 through January 29, 2022.

Amaya to Host the 2013 Billboard Mexican Music Awards

Rafael Amaya will help celebrate Mexico’s best musicians next month…

The 36-year-old Mexican actor, model and singer will co-host the 2013 Billboard Mexican Music Awards with Cuban actress Aylín Mujica on October 9, live from the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.

The Billboard Mexican Music Awards are the only awards show on a major network that celebrates Mexican music, and this year’s hosts reflect the close contact that exists between the show and its music and fans.

Amaya, one of Latino film and television’s top actors, most recently played the lead in record-setting series El Señor de los Cielos and also played the role of El Guero Dávila in La Reina del Sur. He has previously co-hosted the Billboard Latin Music Awards.

Mujica, on her end, is one of the most established actresses in Latin television and starred in the telenovelas Corazón Valiente and Aurora. She has also co-hosted the Billboard Latin Music Awards in past years.

Finalists for the 2013 Billboard Mexican Music Awards vie for top honors in 32 categories, including Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Artist of the Year-New, Digital Download Artist of the Year, Airplay Artist of the Year, and various categories for Banda, Norteño, Ranchero/Mariachi and Duranguense/Grupero/Cumbia Music.

The list of finalists is led by Gerardo Ortiz, the late Jenni Rivera, La Arrolladora Banda el Limon de Rene Camacho, Roberto Tapia, Voz de Mando, Banda El Recodo de Cruz Lizarraga, Calibre 50, 3BallMTY and Joan Sebastian.

The Billboard Mexican Music Awards will air live on Telemundo on October 9.

Canela Picks Up Lead Actor Award at the Premios Tu Mundo

Jencarlos Canela should be grinning from ear to ear…

The 24-year-old Cuban-American actor/singer picked up the Favorite Lead Actor award for his starring role on the hit telenovela Mi Corazón Insiste at the first-ever Premios Tu Mundo, which celebrate the best in telenovelas, music, fashion, movies and sports.

Other winners include La Casa de al Lado and Una Maid en Manhattan honored with two awards each; while Flor Salvaje was honored with one award. Winners in music categories included: “Dutty Love” by Don Omar featuring Natti Natasha for The Party Starting Song; “Las Cosas Pequeñas” by Prince Royce for Song that Steals My Heart  and “Follow the Leader” by Wisin y Yandel featuring Jennifer Lopez for Best Musical Video.

In the film category, Jennifer Lopez was named Favorite Latino in Hollywood. Best Athlete of the Year went to Marlen Esparza, and Rafael Nadal won the Most Charismatic Athlete award; while the Favorite Supermodel award went to Adriana Lima and the I’m Sexy and I Know It award went to Anahi.

Fans from all over the country cast nearly five million votes online at www.premiostumundo.com and through Telemundo’s iPhone app, for their favorite TV shows, actors and actresses, movies, music, athletes and stars in 24 categories.

Broadcast live on Telemundo from the Fillmore Miami Beach at the Jackie Gleason Theater, the event hosted by telenovela stars Gaby Espino and Rafael Amaya and featuring high-octane performances by Tito El Bambino, David Bisbal, Jesse & Joy and Chuy Lizarraga.
