Showtime Renews Rosanny Zayas’ “The L Word: Generation Q” for Third Season

Showtime has renewed The L Word: Generation Q, starring the 31-year-old Afro-Dominican American actress, for a 10-episode third season.

Created by Ilene Chaiken, The L Word: Generation Q follows a group of LGBTQ friends in Los Angeles as they experience love, heartbreak, sex, setbacks and success.

In addition to Zayas, the series also stars Jennifer Beals, Leisha Haily, Katherine Moennig, Arienne Mandi, Leo Sheng, Jacqueline Toboni, Sepideh Moafi and Jordan Hull.

There are a lot of loose ends to tie up in Season 3. In Season 2, Bette (Beals) dealt with Tina (guest star Laurel Holloman) and Carrie’s (guest star Rosie O’Donnell) engagement, and daughter Angie’s (Hull) search for her birth father; Shane (Moennig) ramped up her business and her feelings for Tess (Jamie Clayton); and hot new author Alice (Hailey) wrestled with her own complicated feelings for her book editor. Meanwhile, a newly single Dani (Mandi) leaned on Gigi (Moafi) during her father’s trial; Finley (Toboni) and Sophie (Zayas) tried hard to make it work despite Finley’s spiraling addiction; and friends Micah (Sheng) and Maribel (Jillian Mercado) fell hard for each other. The L Word: Generation Q season three is executive produced by showrunner Marja-Lewis Ryan, along with series creator Chaiken, Kristen Campo, Allyce Ozarski, Melody Derloshon, and original series stars Beals, Moennig and Hailey.

Raúl Castillo to Star in FX’s Limited Series “Class of ’09”

Raúl Castillo is heading back to Class…

The 44-year-old Mexican American actor has been cast in FX’s limited series Class of ’09.

Raul CastilloCastillo, who has starred in Looking and Army of the Dead, is part of a list of cast newcomers that includes Jake McDorman, Sepideh Moafi, Brian J. Smith, Jon Jon Briones, Brooke Smith, and Rosalind Eleazar.

They join previously announced leads Brian Tyree Henry and Kate Mara. Sunu Gonera is set to direct the first two episodes.

The series, which follows a class of FBI agents set in a near future where the U.S. criminal justice system has been transformed by artificial intelligence, comes from Tom Rob Smith, Nina Jacobson, and Brad Simpson.

The eight-part series produced by FX Productions revolves around a group of FBI agents who graduated from Quantico in 2009 and are reunited following the death of a mutual friend. Spanning three decades and told across three interweaving timelines, the series examines the nature of justice, humanity, and the choices we make that ultimately define our lives and our legacy.

Moafi plays Hour; Smith is Lennix; Briones portrays Gabriel; Smith is Drew; McDorman portrays Murphy; Eleazar is Vivienne; Castillo portrays Amos.

Class of ’09 will air exclusively on FX on Hulu.

Moafi can currently be seen starring as Gigi Ghorbani in Showtime’s The L Word: Generation Q, and will be seen in the forthcoming Apple TV+ drama In With the Devil.

Briones was most recently seen in the Ryan Murphy Netflix series Ratched opposite Sarah Paulson, Sharon Stone, and Judy Davis. On the film side, he recently wrapped production on Amblin’s Last Voyage of the Demeter as Joseph.

Castillo can be seen starring in Adam Randall’s vampire thriller Night Teeth for Netflix as well as Army of the Dead from writer/director Zack Snyder. He’ll next be seen in Mattson Tomlin’s upcoming directorial debut, Mother/Android, which will premiere on December 17 on Hulu and The Same Storm, directed and written by Peter Hedges.

Showtime has renewed The L Word: Generation Q, starring the Latina actress, for a second season.

The renewal comes ahead of the season finale of the reboot of the classic drama on January 26. The show, which launched on the ViacomCBS-owned premium network on December 8, has been handed another 10-episode run.

Showtime Networks President of Entertainment Jana Winograde revealed that the launch of The L Word: Generation Q drove the network’s biggest weekend of subscribers sign ups in 2019.

Season one has followed the intermingled lives of Bette Porter (Jennifer Beals), Shane McCutcheon (Katherine Moennig) and Alice Pieszecki (Leisha Hailey), along with new characters Dani Nùñez (Mandi), Micah Lee (Leo Sheng), Finley (Jacqueline Toboni), Sophie Suarez (Rosanny Zayas) and Gigi (Sepideh Moafi), as they experience love, heartbreak, sex, setbacks and success in L.A.

Based on The L Word, which aired on Showtime between 2004 and 2009, the reboot moved from West Hollywood to Silver Lake.

The show follows Bette weaving her way through a contentious mayoral run while co-parenting her and Tina’s teenage daughter; Shane returning to L.A. and embarking on her new career as owner of a lesbian bar while trying to save her marriage; and Alice stepping into the spotlight as host of her own queer-focused talk show.

Meanwhile, PR pro Dani is running communications for Bette’s campaign while balancing her relationship with fiancée Sophie, a producer for Alice’s show. Production assistant Finley and professor Micah are finding their footing in the L.A. dating scene, while Gigi navigates family dynamics with her ex, Nat, played by guest star Stephanie Allynne, who is Alice’s current girlfriend. Other season one guest stars include Megan Rapinoe, Brian Michael Smith, Olivia Thirlby, Fortune Feimsterand Latarsha Rose.

Jillian Mercado is headed to the small screen…

The 32-year-old Dominican model will make her scripted television debut on the forthcoming The L Word: Generation Q, which is set to premiere December 8 at 10:00 pm ET/PT on Showtime.

Mercado will play the character of Maribel Suarez, an immigration attorney and the little sister of Sophie (Rosanny Zayas). The two are very close, and Maribel is always there to give Sophie advice and support.

The L Word: Generation Q continues the stories of the critically acclaimed and groundbreaking series The L Word, which ran from 2004-2009. This season’s guest stars include Brian Michael, Stephanie Allyne, Olivia Thirlby, Fortune Feimster and Latarsha Rose. 

The series is executive produced by showrunner Marja-Lewis Ryan with series creator Ilene Chaiken, Kristen Campo, Allyce Ozarski, Steph Green (pilot), and original series stars Beals, Moennig and Hailey.

Mercado is best known as a model with muscular dystrophy and has been praised for her representation of the differently-abled in fashion. She has appeared on E! News and has modeled in campaigns for Olay, Bumble 100, Calvin Klein fragrances, Nordstrom, Targetand Tommy Hilfiger.

On the editorial side, she was featured on the cover of Teen Vogue‘s first digital cover and was in September issues of Glamour, Cosmopolitan, Jejune and many others. 

She’s also an active disabilities advocate who has spoken at various summits.

Showtime has set a late-fall premiere date for The L Word: Generation Q,starring the Latina actress.

The eight-episode sequel to the groundbreaking 2000s series will debut at 10:00 pm on Sunday, December 8. 

Production is underway in Los Angeles. 

Original series stars Jennifer Beals, Katherine Moennigand Leisha Haileytopline the sequel, executive produced by showrunner Marja-Lewis Ryan, original series creator Ilene Chaiken, Kristen Campoand Steph Green(pilot). Beals, Moennig and Hailey also executive produce.
