Danny Trejo to Star in “The Protector”

The 75-year-old Mexican American actor will star opposite Billy Zane, Randy Couture and James Russo in the action film The Protector from filmmaker Justin Lee.

Ed Morroneleading the film as protagonist Mickey Rome, an aging protection specialist who’s ready to holster his guns and head for retirement. When the agency he works for demands one last job be done, Mickey obliges and is sent to Central America to watch a husband and wife who have stolen $8m from a ruthless crime family.

“This movie is a fun throwback to films from the ’80s like Lethal WeaponMidnight Run and 48 Hours. It has action. It has comedy. It has dark moments. It was such a joy to get to work in a space I love so much with phenomenal talent,” said director Lee.

Trejo, best known for his title role as Machetein the Robert Rodriguez-helmed films, has previously appeared in AnacondaCon AirGrindhouseand Once Upon a Time in Mexico.

Gonzalez Lands Series Regular Role on ABC Family’s Comedy Pilot “Tough Cookie”

The 35-year-old Dominican and Puerto Rican actor has landed a series regular role on ABC Family’s comedy pilot Tough Cookie.

From Awkward creator Lauren Iungerich and David Janollari, it centers on a young mother who isn’t ready to parent and her daughter who doesn’t want to be parented. It takes a village to raise a child — or, rather, a child to raise a village.

Gonzalez will portray Seth Whitfield, who works for the San Francisco Department of Children’s Services.

Gonzalez was a series regular on Rush, as well as Reaper. His other credits include appearances on Medium, Castle, Lie to Me, The Protector and The Closer.

His film credits include Coach Carter, The Guilt Trip and War of the Worlds.

Vasi Joins the Cast of VH1’s “Single Ladies”

Denise Vasi has plenty of reason to be a proud “single lady”…

The half-Dominican, half-Puerto Rican actress has signed on as a series regular on VH1’s Single Ladies, which was renewed for a second season after averaging 2.8 million viewers per episode.

The former All My Children star will play a businesswoman named Raquel—a friend of one of the show’s current characters, Keisha, played by LisaRaye McCoy.

“Denise is the perfect addition to the Single Ladies cast,” said Queen Latifah, the show’s executive producer. “She is bringing a fun, new element to the show.”

Vasi will replace another Latina bombshell on the hit show…

Stacey Dash has previously announced that she planned to leave the show, which films in Atlanta, to spend more time with her children in Los Angeles.

Vasi has also appeared on White Collar, The Protector  and Law & Order: Criminal Intent. She’s also set to appear in Steven Soderbergh’s movie about male strippers, Magic Mike, starring Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer and Olivia Munn.

Season 2 of Single Ladies will debut next summer.

Ferrer is “NCIS: LA” Bound

Miguel Ferrer won’t be out of work when his stint on Desperate Housewives comes to an end.

The 56-year-old Puerto Rican-American actor has signed on to appear in a recurring role on CBS’ military drama/crime procedural NCIS: Los Angeles, which stars LL Cool J and Chris O’Donnell.

The former Crossing Jordan will play NCIS Assistant Director Allan Granger, a high-ranking federal agency supervisor.

Ferrer, who was a series regular on Lifetime’s drama The Protector earlier this year, is currently appearing on ABC’s Desperate Housewives as Susan Mayer’s (Teri Hatcher) college art teacher.
