Danny Trejo to Star in Indie MMA-Themed Drama “American Underdog”

The 78-year-old Mexican American actor and Machete star has landed a role in American Underdog, an indie drama set in the world of MMA.Danny TrejoVeronica Falcón will also star in the film, which is now in production in Chicago.

The film, marking the feature directorial debut of Peruvian-American filmmaker Gustavo Martin, will also star Vishy Ayyar and Andrew Gray.

The film’s protagonist is Jai (Ayyar), an ex-con on a soulful path wrestling with personal redemption when outside circumstances pit him in the ring against the fierce opponent, Marcus (Gray).

Trejo portrays Dennis, who reluctantly comes out of retirement to train his former student, while Falcón steps into the role of Marcella, a local gym owner and community legend shepherding Jai in his return to fighting.

A production of Peach Partners, in association with Mulberry Films and MxW VenturesAmerican Underdog will also star Suleka Mathew (Your Honor), Taylor Treadwell (Big Little Lies), Omi Vaidya (3 Idiots), Ranjita Chakravarty (Never Have I Ever) and Jaspal Binning (The Newsroom).

Martin and Matthew Mascia wrote the script, with Naveen A. Chathapuram (The Last VictimBrown Nation), Rashaana Shah (IFC’s Bollywood Hero) and Cristy Coors Beasley (The WestsidersLonelyGirl15) aboard to produce.

Melissa Fumero to Appear on Upcoming Episode of NBC’s “Lopez vs. Lopez”

Melissa Fumero has landed a special guest-starring role…

The 40-year-old Cuban American actress and former Brooklyn Nine-Nine will appear on the May 2 episode of George Lopez and Mayan Lopez’s NBC’s Lopez vs. Lopez.

Melissa FumeroFumero will play Natalia, a Latina mother who mistakes Mayan for white.

But Fumero isn’t the only guest star on the episode.

Danny Trejo will play Danny Martinez of Martin-E.Z. Movers, who is George’s rival and biggest competitor.

Additionally, Judge Marilyn Milian and Erik Griffin will appear in the episode, with character details not yet revealed.

Fumero is best known for starring as Amy Santiago opposite Andy Samberg in NBC’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Recently, she voice acted in Samberg’s adult animated Comedy Central series Digman! and HBO Max’s adult animated series Velma. In 2022, she appeared in the IFC comedy film Barfight! and the Netflix comedy Blockbuster.

Her other prominent credits include One Life to Live, Gossip Girl, Royal Pains, CSI: NY and The Mentalist.

As a director, she has worked on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Grand Crew, Gordita Chronicles and the upcoming Freevee comedy Primo.

Trejo is a prolific charcter actor with film credits including Desperado, Heat, the From Dusk Till Dawn series, Con Air and Spy Kids.

In television, he’s appeared in Sons of Anarchy, King of the Hill, Breaking Bad, The Flash, American Gods and The Book of Boba Fett.

Milian has been the judge presiding over the syndicated arbitration reality series The People’s Court since 2001 and in the fall will launch “Justice for the People With Judge Milian.”

Uncork’ed Entertainment Acquires Danny Trejo’s “The Curse Of Wolf Mountain” for U.S. Digital & DVD Release

The action-horror film The Curse Of Wolf Mountain, featuring the 78-year-old Mexican American actor and Tobin Bell in the cast, has been acquired by Uncork’d Entertainment for a U.S. digital and DVD release in May.

Danny TrejoKeli Price wrote and stars in the horror film while David Lipper, who also features in the cast, directs.

Price plays a man who starts to have vivid dreams about his parents’ death and decides to return to the remote mountain spot where they were killed, with his brother and his brother’s family.

Further cast members include Eddie McClintock and Fernanda Romero, alongside Trejo and Bell.

Working under the banner of Latigo Films, Lipper also recently took writing and producing credits on the action thriller Hunt Club, starring Mickey Rourke and Mena Suvari, which Uncork’d Entertainment also acquired.

“It’s great to be back in business again with producer, actor and filmmaker David Lipper following the successful release of Hunt Club. While very different from the latter, The Curse Of Wolf Mountain is no less as thrilling and star-studded,” said Uncork’d Entertainment President Keith Leopard.

Danny Trejo Appearing in Stimson Snead’s Sci-Fi Comedy “Tim Travers & The Time Traveler’s Paradox”

The 78-year-old Mexican American actor and Machete star has landed a key supporting role in Stimson Snead’s sci-fi comedy Tim Travers & The Time Traveler’s Paradox, which wrapped production in Spokane Washington earlier this month.

Samuel Dunning stars as a narcissistic, genius but broke scientist who seeks to solve the paradox of what happens to your past self when a future version travels backwards in time.

His work attracts the attention of the head of a mercenary army played by Machete star Trejo.

North by Northwest, which previously supported Snead’s previous shorts, lead produces the feature. An Immortal, LLC handled principal financing.

“Having worked with Stimson on his two very compelling shorts, I’m thrilled to be involved in his feature debut,” said Rich Cowan of North by Northwest, “Not only is he talented. He’s organized and has a sense of maturity unbecoming his age.”

Principal photography took place in and around Spokane Washington from November 30 to December 20, with limited final filming in January.

“I met Stimson years ago at the Seattle Film Summit, and I couldn’t be happier to join him for the culmination of our mutual efforts for his feature film directorial debut,” said Guerilla Rep Media founding head Ben Yennie, who was previously CEO of Mutiny Pictures, prior to its sale to BayView Entertainment last year.

The short version of Tim Travers screened at more than 30 film festivals in 2022 including winning multiple awards at Boston SciFi, Nevermore Film Fest, and FilmQuest.

Danny Trejo to Star in the Action Film “Pug”

The 78-year-old Mexican American actor and Machete film series star has joined the cast of the action film Pug.

Trejo will co-star alongside Mark RolstonDanielle Vega, Wolfgang Bodison and Velo in the film.

Pug centers on a gifted young ex-con who tries to return to the boxing ring after his release from prison, thereby catching the eye of a local crime boss who intends to sign him. When he refuses the order to take a dive during a fight, he puts his newfound love interest, family and entire future in the mob’s crosshairs.

Keli Price is producing for Price Productions, alongside Velo for Below The Line Entertainment, Aaron Bennett and Edwin To, with Wave Motion Pictures’ Scott Huneryager serving as exec producer.

Trejo’s previous credits include Desperado, Heat and the From Dusk Till Dawn film series.

Danny Trejo to Portray Ferdinand Magellan in Historical Epic Film “1521”

The 78-year-old Mexican American actor will portray Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan in 1521, an upcoming historical epic that charts the pre-colonial era of the Philippines depicting the Battle of Mactan.

Lara Ho of Inspire Studios 1521 is a U.S.-Philippines production that follows the journey of Magellan, who led the Spanish expedition and was one of the first Europeans to travel to Asia. He reached the archipelago that is known as Philippines today on March 16, 1521.

The script of 1521 was penned by Mary Krell-Oishi. Principal photography is expected to start this month in Palawan.

Joining Trejo in the cast is Michael Copon. He will play the role of Datu Lapu-lapu, an island ruler and leader of the warriors who fended off Magellan’s attempted colonization of the Philippine archipelago.

Magellan’s forces were defeated and the Portuguese explorer killed in the Battle of Mactan on April 27, 1521.

Complicating the historic encounter between Magellan and Copon is the forbidden romance between native Mactan princess Diwata, played by Filipino actress Bea Alonzo and a Spanish soldier, as well as Magellan’s translator Enrique, played by Hector David Jr. Filipino actress Maricel Laxa-Pangilinan will be playing Ahmani, the sister of Diwata.

Danny Trejo’s Spanish-Language Comedy “Escándalo Secreto: En Plena Cuarentena” to Debut on DistroTV

The story is based during COVID-19 times and set in Bogota, Colombia.

Danny Trejo to Star in the Crime Drama “Alone Today”

Danny Trejo isn’t leaving things Alone Today

The 77-year-old Mexican American actor and entrepreneur has joined the cast of Alone Today, an upcoming crime drama from director Wendy Wilkins.

The project centers on a woman (Elizabeth) in an abusive relationship with a dirty detective (Whaley) who is helping move sex trafficked girls coming over the Mexican Border. When attempting to save just one truck load before “disappearing forever” everything goes horribly wrong and she decides to take a different path.

The project hails from Different Duck Films founder Rob Margolies, who will produce.

The film will begin filming in Los Angeles this winter.

Wilkins is a former law enforcement official and the author of memoir Sex, Love & Cops: A Memoir of My Five Years as a Young Cop, a collection of stories of when she was a real life cop.

“As a former police officer, I wanted to write a film that portrayed a more authentic version of a woman who was also a police officer, not a stereotyped version, and to shine a light on domestic violence and that it could happen to anyone, regardless of your upbringing, job, and geography,” she said. “The script, I believe, is grounded, realistic and an accurate portrayal of the characters as these are inspired by true life events.”

Added Margolies: “The project is an interesting mesh of thrills and suspense. I look forward to working with Shannon. Alone Today will show her in a brand-new light. Shannon is excited to portray a multi-faceted woman that she said after reading the script  ‘feels real to her’ and she is ‘thrilled to have a female director.’”

Justina Machado to Appear in First-Ever The Muppets Halloween Television Special

It’ll be a Haunted Halloween for Justina Machado.

The 49-year-old Puerto Rican actress will appear in the first Halloween television special featuring The Muppets.

Muppets Haunted Mansion will premiere on Friday, October 8, exclusively on Disney+.

Starring in the special alongside the Muppets are Will Arnett (as The Ghost Host), Yvette Nicole Brown (The Hearse Driver), Darren Criss (The Caretaker) and Taraji P. Henson (The Bride).

In Muppets Haunted Mansion, the Great Gonzo – world-famous daredevil artiste, has done it all, seen it all and survived it all. But on Halloween night, the fearless Gonzo takes on the greatest challenge of his life by spending one very daring night in the most grim grinning place on Earth: the Haunted Mansion.

In addition to Machado, Muppets Haunted Mansion will also feature appearances from Chrissy Metz, Alfonso Ribeiro, Edward Asner, Jeannie Mai, Danny Trejo, Sasheer Zamata, Craig Robinson, Skai Jackson, Pat Sajak, Geoff Keighley, Kim Irvine and John Stamos as himself.

Danny Trejo to Appear in Hulu’s Horror Anthology Series “American Horror Stories”

Let the Horror begin for Danny Trejo.

The 77-year-old Mexican American actor has joined the cast of American Horror Stories, Hulu’s American Horror Story spinoff anthology series.

Trejo will join the cast as Santa as part of Ryan Murphy’s horror franchise.

AHS alums Matt BomerBillie Lourd and John Carroll Lynch are set to return to the series.

Bomer, Lourde and Lynch are set to play Michael, Liv Whitely and Larry Bitterman, respectively. Naomi Grossman will also return to the American Horror Story franchise to take on Rabid Ruth.

American Horror Stories is a weekly hourlong anthology series that will feature a different horror story in each contained episode. The spinoff will premiere exclusively on Hulu July 15. Murphy’s social media post also revealed that Aaron Tveit, Paris Jackson, Madison Bailey and Virginia Garndner and many more will appear throughout the series. Murphy also confirmed that

“And this isn’t even the half of it,” Murphy said about the packed cast.

The spin-off anthology series will premiere a little more than a month before American Horror Story returns for its tenth installment, Double Feature. American Horror Stories is set to conclude on Halloween.
