Wisin & Yandel to Reunite at Madison Square Garden Concert in June

Wisin & Yandel are reuniting… and it feels so good!

The Puerto Rican reggaeton duo has announced its first official concert in the United States since their hiatus.

Wisin & Yandel

After a temporary separation, Wisin & Yandel will perform a Madison Square Garden on June 8 and will celebrate their Puerto Rican heritage, since the concert takes place during the Puerto Rican Day Parade weekend in New York.

Recently, Wisin & Yandel announced they would reunite for a world tour and new music.

The news came after hinting on social media to a possible reunion, keeping fans on edge.

So far, the pair, have released two songs — “Como Antes” (Yandel featuring Wisin) and “Todo Comienza en la Disco” (Wisin featuring Yandel and Daddy Yankee) — both of which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Latin Airplay chart.

Verdejo to Face Daniel Evangelista in 10-Round Bout

Felix Verdejo is ready to rumble on his home turf…

The 22-year-old rising Puerto Rican lightweight boxing star and 2014 ESPN.com prospect of the year will face Daniel Evangelista on April 16 at Roberto Clemente Coliseum in San Juan, according promoter Top Rank.

Felix Verdejo

The scheduled 10-round bout will headline a “Solo Boxeo Tecate” card on Spanish-language network UniMas.

“The name of my opponent makes no difference,” Verdejo said. “I want to fight the best, but I don’t choose my opponents. I leave that to [manager and trainer] Ricky [Marquez] and Top Rank. I always prepare well for any opponent, and this time won’t be the exception. I will be in my best condition to once again bring happiness to my people.”

If he comes through the bout against Evangelista unscathed, Verdejo (20-0, 14 KOs), 22, is due to fight again on June 11, the eve of the annual Puerto Rican Day Parade in New York. That bout, an HBO-televised co-feature at the Theater at Madison Square Garden, is expected to be against a much better opponent than Evangelista.

The leading candidate for that fight is Jose Felix Jr. (33-1-1, 25 KOs), 23, of Mexico, a fringe contender, according to Top Rank chairman Bob Arum.

Evangelista (18-6-2, 14 KOs), 25, of Mexico, is 1-3-1 in his past four fights but has experience against opponents such as former junior lightweight world titleholder Argenis Mendez and unbeaten prospect Casey Ramos.

“I don’t think it would be smart to think that a fighter with some losses on his record doesn’t have the qualities to be a worthy opponent,” Marquez said of Evangelista. “I respect Evangelista for his bravery of coming to our island to try to ruin our plans. I really think he is an opponent that will come to apply pressure, throw a lot of punches and will make Felix work to dominate him.”

Calderón Releases New Single “Dando Break”

Tego Calderón is dando break with new music…

The 42-year-old Puerto Rican rapper and reggaetón pioneer has released “Dando Break,” the first single long-awaited new album, El Que Sabe, Sabe, which is set for release in early 2015.

Tego Calderón

Calderón stays true to his musical roots on the new track, combining slow jamming rhythms with his intense street-talking delivery. The track serves as a reminder of how tight the urban tropical fusion genre was with hip-hop when it came out of the projects of San Juan.

El Que Sabe, Sabe is Calderón’s first major studio album in eight years. Despite his long absence from recording music, Calderón has continued to perform and record, as well as appear in the Fast and Furious movies.

He was nominated for a 2012 Latin Grammy for The Original Gallo Del País, a “mixtape” released by his own Jiggiri Records. (The marketing plan involved handing copies of the album out at New York’s Puerto Rican Day Parade.) He gave a boost to the young reggaetón duo Plan B by appearing on the 2013 song “Zapitito Roto,” which landed on the Billboard Latin charts.

El Que Sabe Sabe will be released by Siente Music, a Venevision label distributed by Universal.

“I keep on producing, writing new songs and enjoying the process in addition to be debuting with a new record company,” Calderón said in a press release from the label. “So I’m ready to keep contributing to the development of the genre, with lyrics that in addition to make people dance, have a message they can identify with.”

Calle 13’s René Pérez Named King of New York City’s Puerto Rican Day Parade

There’s no raining on René Pérez Joglar’s parade…

The 36-year-old Puerto Rican singer-composer and Calle 13 frontman, best known by his stage name Residente, has been named the king of New York City’s upcoming Puerto Rican Day Parade.

Rene Perez - Residente

Pérez, known as much for his music as for his social commentary and actions that include regular meetings with Latin American presidents, and recently, a collaboration with Julian Assange on the title track of the band’s recent album Multi-Viral, will be grand marshall of the parade, which will take place on June 8.

The front man of the record-holding Latin Grammy-winning group follows Latin music stars like Marc Anthony as king of the massive event on New York’s Fifth Avenue.

Pérez is an outspoken supporter of the Puerto Rican Independence movement.

The parade will also honor the two greats of Latin music, Cheo Feliciano and Gran Combo of Puerto Rico founder Eddie Pérez, both of whom who died in the past year.
