Selena Gomez Launching “Selena + Restaurant” Series for Food Network

Selena Gomez is upgrading her kitchen for her next cooking series.

The 31-year-old Mexican American actress, singer and television host is launching Selena + Restaurant on the Food Network.

Selena GomezThe Emmy-nominated Only Murders in the Building star had previously hosted four seasons of Selena + Chef for Max, as well as four-part series Selena + Chef: Home for the Holidays for Food Network.

The new series will premiere on May2 on Food Network. It’ll see her head out of her home kitchen and into the kitchens of some of L.A.’s hottest restaurants.

Gomez will be joined by best friend, Raquelle Stevens, with chefs Shirley Chung, Keith Corbin, Stephanie Izard, Andrew & Michelle Muñoz, Wolfgang Puck and Marcel Vigneron teaching and testing Gomez to see how quickly she can learn the ropes with the ultimate goal of creating a dish good enough to make each restaurant’s menu.

Restaurants include Puck’s Cut Steakhouse in Beverly Hills, Chung’s Ms Chi, Vigneron’s Lemon Grove, the Muñozes Moo’s Craft Barbecue, Izard’s Girl & the Goat and Corbin’s Alta.

“After cooking mostly virtually from my kitchen with some of the best chefs for the last four years, I was thrilled to step into their world,” said Gomez. “You’ll have to see if being in person helped my skills at all.”

Selena + Restaurant is produced by Gomez’s July Moon Productions, along with executive producers Eli Holzman and Aaron Saidman on behalf of Sony Pictures Television’s The Intellectual Property Corporation (IPC), showrunner Shauna Minoprio and Melissa Stokes.

The 30-year-old Mexican American actress/singer/television personality, the host of Selena + Chef, is joining the Food Network.

Selena Gomez x Our PlaceGomez is working on two projects for the cooking channel. The first will be a “celebration-focused series just in time for the holidays,” which will launch later in 2023.

The second will debut in 2024 and will have her meeting up with some of the best chefs in the country in a quest to cook their most popular dishes when she visits their kitchens.

Both projects will be produced by July Moon Productions and The Intellectual Property Corporation (IPC), a part of Sony Pictures Television for Food Network.

“The holidays are always huge for Food Network, reaching nearly 60M P2+ viewers, and having Selena kicking off the nearly 100 hours of new and returning holiday programming will certainly make this coming season one to celebrate,” said Kathleen Finch, Warner Bros. Discovery Chairman and Chief Content Officer US Networks.

Gomez last stepped in the kitchen for Warner Bros. Discovery with her series Selena + Chef on HBO Max. The series ran for four seasons and featured Gomez brushing up on her cooking skills with the help of master chefs, learning new recipes, and revealing tips and tricks to deal with disaster in the kitchen.

The fate of Selena + Chef given the star’s new presence on Food Network is unclear.

Selena Gomez Partnering with Univision to Produce Her First Spanish-Language Documentary Series, “Mi Vecino, El Cartel”

Selena Gomez is producing her first-ever Spanish-language documentary series.

The 29-year-old Mexican American actress/singer, who recently earned her first-ever Grammy nomination, has teamed up with Univision to produce her a documentary series for the network’s forthcoming subscription streaming service.

Selena GomezTitled Mi Vecino, El Cartel, the project hails from Gomez’s July Moon Productions company and Blackfin, owned by Hasbro’s eOne.

The three-part docuseries “follows the cold-blooded homicide of a former cartel lawyer and high-level cooperator for the U.S. government, Juan Guerrero Chapa, and the subsequent investigation and trial.”

“As a true crime fan, I was immediately captivated when I heard the story surrounding the homicide of Juan Guerrero Chapa. Not only did it take place close to my hometown in Texas, but it was also a story unlike anything I’ve ever heard,” Gomez said in a statement. “I am excited to partner with Univision and really pull back the layers of his double life.”

News of the deal between Gomez and Univision follow the recent announcement of a partnership between the Spanish network and Mexican actor/comedian Eugenio Derbez, who will also produce original Spanish-language content for the streaming service.

“As we build the largest Spanish-language streaming platform in the world and an indispensable service to this audience, one of our top priorities is bringing diverse voices and stories and investing in Latin storytellers,” said Rodrigo Mazon, executive vice president, general manager of SVOD at Univision. “We are proud to welcome Selena Gomez to our roster of globally acclaimed creators that will help create the best in-language, in-culture original content.”

According to Univision, in 2022, it will launch its “global streaming service, including a new premium subscription (SVOD) and an expanded free advertising-supported (AVOD) tier, to become the home to the most extensive offering of originally produced Spanish-language content in the world.”

Most recently, Gomez — who produced the Netflix series 13 Reasons Why — starred in Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building co-created by Steve Martin and John Hoffman.

The show’s cast also includes Martin and Martin Short. The show, which has been renewed for a second season, is about three neighbors (Gomez, Short and Martin) who come together to solve a murder when someone who lives in their building winds up dead.

HBO Max has renewed the series for a fourth season, with premiere slated for next year.

The final four episodes of season three debut this week and feature chefs Jamie Oliver, Sophia Roe, Esther Choi and Gabe Kennedy.

Season 4 will be set at a beach house where Selena will continue to learn the joys of cooking with all-star chefs. Like in its first three seasons, each chef will highlight a different charity each episode.

To date, the series has raised $400,000 for 26 nonprofit organizations.

“I am looking forward to another season of being in the kitchen with some of the world’s best chefs,” said Gomez. “Hopefully, my skills have improved. More importantly, we’ve been able to raise money for incredible charitable organizations.”

New episodes of the unscripted cooking series will premiere later this year.

In Season 3, Gomez will continue her cooking adventures at home with a new roster of all-star chefs that will help her whip up delicious dishes. Like in its first two seasons, each chef will highlight a different charity each episode. To date, the series has raised $360,000 for 23 nonprofit organizations.

The series is executive produced by Gomez for July Moon Productions.

Gomez executive produced the Sony romantic feature The Broken Hearts Gallery, which was one of the first movies to get exhibition reopened as the pandemic eased last summer.

Her 2015 album Revival went platinum twice. Gomez released her third solo album Rare last year via Interscope Records, debuting atop the Billboard 200, making it her third consecutive No. 1 album in the U.S.

And, she released her first Spanish-language album earlier this year. Revelación debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart.

Selena Gomez to Star as Peruvian Mountaineer & Social Entrepreneur Silvia Vásquez-Lavado

It’s an uphill battle for Selena Gomez

The 28-year-old Mexican American actress/singer will portray pioneering Peruvian mountaineer and social entrepreneur Silvia Vásquez-Lavado in a new film, based on Vásquez-Lavado’s upcoming memoir In the Shadow of the Mountain.

Vásquez-Lavado is the first gay woman to complete the Seven Summits, the highest mountains (including Mount Everest) on each of the seven continents. She’s also the founder of Courageous Girls, a nonprofit that helps survivors of sexual abuse and trafficking, and has organized excursions for abuse survivors to the Mount Everest base camp. In the Shadow of the Mountain is expected to be published in 2022.

Gomez will produce the film through her July Moon Productions. Vásquez-Lavado and Lara Love Hardin of Idea Architects are executive producing.

Elgin James will pen and direct In the Shadow of the Mountain. He wrote the film Lowriders and co-created the series Mayans M.C.

Selena Gomez to Produce & Possibly Star in STXfilms’ Psychological Thriller “Dollhouse”

The 28-year-old Mexican American singer/actress has boarded STXfilms’ psychological thriller Dollhouse as a producer with an eye to also star.

The project is billed as being in the vein of Black Swan. 

 

Gomez will produce through her July Moon Productions along with 21 Laps’ Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen. A search is underway for a director for the script penned by Michael Paisley set in the upper echelon of New York City’s fashion scene.

“Selena’s involvement is an exciting direction for this project. She is supremely talented as both a star and a producer,” sayid STX films Motion Picture Group chairman Adam Fogelson. “Teaming Selena with Shawn and Dan’s expertise in the horror-thriller genre will elevate Dollhouse and we couldn’t be more thrilled by the way this is being developed.”

Gomez recently served as executive producer on Tri-Star’s romantic comedy Broken Hearts GalleryShe signed on to reprise her lead female role in Sony’s Hotel Transylvania 4 and will also executive produce. She can currently be seen on her HBO Max cooking series Selena+Chef, which she executive produces. Gomez will produce and star opposite Steve Martin and Martin Short in Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building.

The WarnerMedia streaming service has given a 10-episode straight-to-series order to the Untitled Cooking Project, starring and executive produced by Gomez via her July Moon Productions

It’s slated to premiere this summer.

In each episode, Gomez will be joined remotely by a different master chef. Together, they’ll tackle a variety of cuisines, share tips and tricks, and deal with everything from smoking ovens to missing ingredients. 

Each episode will highlight a food-related charity, while embracing both the struggle and the joy of learning to cook, inviting audiences to follow along at home.
