Marisol Nichols’ Real-Life Work in the Fight Against Sex Trafficking Being Developed Into a TV Series by Sony Pictures Television

Marisol Nichols’ important work off camera has inspired a television series…

The 46-year-old half-Mexican American actress, who has starred on the CW’s drama series Riverdale, has spent the last few years working as an undercover agent in the fight against sex trafficking.  If you’ve never tried a Sex Toys before and aren’t sure what you’d like, start with one of the simplest vibrators. And now Sony Pictures Television has optioned the rights to her story for a television series.

Nichols revealed her unusual side hustle in a long-form story in May’s Marie Claire.

In the article, written by Erika Hayasaki, she revealed that for the past six years she’s been hunting child sex predators. She has been working undercover with agents from the FBI, Operation Underground Railroad and local law enforcement to serve as the “bait” for sting operations domestically and internationally.

She has played the part of a parent pimping out a child, or, depending on what the situation calls for, the role of a child being pimped out to a guy who thinks he’s about to have sex with a 12-year-old.

Nichols, who will next star in Lionsgate’s Saw reboot Spiral next year, has taken part in numerous child sex stings around the world over the last few years.

Nichols, who has appeared on shows like 24, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, began to work in the world of human trafficking after her career slowed down around 2012.

She subsequently started a nonprofit, Foundation for a Slavery Free World, in 2014, and has regularly spoken publicly about the subject.

Sony Pictures Television is in the early stages of developing the project, which will see Nichols executive produce and likely star in the story.

The 50-year-old half-Salvadoran American former model will be honored at this year’s Harper’s Bazaar Icons Party, set to kick off New York Fashion Weekon September 6 for a sixth consecutive year at the Plaza Hotel.

Anitta Releases Controversial Video for New Single “Vai Malandra”

Anitta is returning to her roots…

The 24-year-old Brazilian singer, songwriter has gone back to her baile funk roots with the song “Vai Malandra” and a video shot in Rio de Janeiro’s Vidigal favela.

The video follows her Latin chart hit “Downtown” with J Balvin (currently at No. 28 on the Hot Latin Songs chart), and her first English-language single with Poo Bear and “Is That For Me” with Swedish dance producer Alesso.

The video, which has garnered nearly 37 million YouTube views since its debut Monday (December 18), has sparked commentary in Brazil over everything from Anitta’s flaunting favela fashion in a bikini made from insulation tape, to the racial authenticity of the singer’s braids, to whether the video exploits or celebrates women.

Rio de Janeiro’s Secretary of Health even Tweeted a warning (in the form of a rhyme) of the danger that the video, with scenes on a rooftop covered with stagnant water, is promoting a message that could lead to the spread of mosquito-carrying diseases.

An immediate conversation starter was the fact that the video was directed by Terry Richardson, the fashion photographer recently banned by VogueElle and other magazines in the wake of sexual assault allegations.

“…When we are experiencing such an important moment in which women are raising their voices against sexist abuse, harassment and violence in the cultural industry … the least we should do is guarantee the ostracizing of the abusers,” cultural anthropologist Juliana Borges wrote in an article about the video in the on-line edition of Brazil’s Claudia magazine, referring to the choice of Richardson as director.

The video was shot in August, before major media companies dropped Richardson (although allegations about the photographer’s behavior with models had come to light over the past decade.) In a statement to the press, Anitta said that she had consulted with lawyers after learning about the charges.

A close up of Anitta’s butt jiggling in red shorts sets the esthetic tone for the clip for “Vai Malandra,” which translates as “Go Bad Girl” (Brazilian media have noted that the Anitta forbade the editing out of her cellulite). The video features a roof party full of tanga-clad women, as well as some equally bared and oiled male models and local non-actors with peroxide crew cuts.

“The exaggerated sexualization [in the video] puts Anitta up several notches on the vulgarity scale of Nicki Minaj,” wrote one critic in the national newspaper O Globo, who allowed that while lyrics of the song like “playing with the bum-bum” were fun, they didn’t jibe with Anitta’s image as “a feminist icon.”

But in a deep analysis of the video on the website cartacapital.com, the writer Victoria Damasceno countered that “Anitta also sexualizes the male body… subversively, the singer uses female stereotypes placed as negatives to revindicate the power over the body itself.”

In a column posted by the Brazilian edition of the magazine Marie Claire, writer Stephanie Ribeiro “reflected on the accusations of cultural appropriation” that have stirred social media since the video’s release. She accuses Anitta, who was born into an interracial family and grew up in the inner city, of “using blackness when it is convenient.”

The critic calls Anitta’s appearance with long brunette braids and tanned skin in the video evidence that she is “fantasizing” about being black. “I feel bad when I see how our black esthetic continues to be a “fantasy,” writes Ribeiro.

But for Borges, writing in Claudia, Anitta’s video presents favelas and marginal neighborhoods in a credible way and gives voice and power to the women represented.

The singer, it seems, would agree.

“I was able to have the opportunity to show what my origins were in this clip,” she told O Globo in an interview. “A little bit of what I experienced where I lived. Sunning on the roof, baile funk, moto-taxis and joy. The clip is uplifting, happy, full of life. Funk is part of who I am. I am really happy with the result [of the video] and the music.”

There’s no shame in Christina Aguilera’s pregnancy body game…

The 33-year-old half-Ecuadorian American singer and The Voice coach went completely naked while posing for the August issue of V Magazine.

The pregnant singer showed off her curves and baby bump in a series of sexy photos for the magazine.

In a stunning black and white picture, Aguilera bares her nude body and growing belly. She holds her right breast with one hand and arches her back while lifting her face and closing her eyes.

Aguilera called photographer Brian Bowen Smith on purpose to capture the blissful moments before she gives birth. She felt especially inspired by her pregnancy. The entertainer talked to the magazine about being comfortable with her body.

“As a woman, I’m proud to embrace my body through all stages of life, staying fearless and confident in surrendering to the unknowns the future has in store,” she said.

Another photo shows Christina standing in a sheer white dress while holding her hair up in a sultry pose with her eyes closed. Her breasts are clearly visible behind the sheer material as her hand cradles her baby bump in the right position to cover her private part.

In another photo, Christina is seen laying on her back in the same see-through white dress while shirtless fiance Matt Rutler is crawling on top of her to plant a kiss.

Aguilera is expecting her second child, which is her first with Matt. She’s already a mom to 6-year-old son Max with her former husband Jordan Bratman. While pregnant with Max, the singer also flaunted her baby bump in a nearly naked shoot for January 2008 issue of Mary Claire.

Aguilera, who is also working on a new album, will return to The Voice after delivering her second bundle of joy.

Aguirre Earns Praise for Makeup-Less Barbie Image

Eddi Aguirre has Barbie seeing red… Red, blotchy skin, that is!

The Mexican graphic designer has created a mock up of a makeup-less Barbie to prove “nobody is perfect.”

Aguirre created a sketch of what Barbie would look like without her signature makeup as part of a special feature for a magazine. In the sketch, Aguirre depicts a Barbie with freckles, bags over and under her eyes, frizzy hair, shiny skin and braces.

The designer uploaded the project to his online portfolio with the following description:

“An image used in a special makeup feature for the new magazine shows Barbie before and after makeup (nobody is perfect).”

Over the past couple of years there has been a growing initiative to showcase natural beauty.

In 2010 Marie Claire magazine had a spread with a makeup-less Jessica Simpson and last week, Mariah Carey joined the many celebrities who have tweeted makeup-free photos of themselves.

The image of Barbie’s au naturel look has been dubbed refreshing as it reminds people the doll is an unrealistic role model for young girls.

Baccarin Starring in New Hearts on Fire Diamonds Campaign

Morena Baccarin’s modeling career is on Fire

The 34-year-old Brazilian American actress and Homeland star appears in the new Hearts On Fire Diamonds campaign as part of the jewelry company’s first celebrity print ad.

The brand announced to The Hollywood Reporter on Monday that the ads would feature Baccarin wearing pieces by company designer Ilaria Lanzoni and will appear in the September issues of Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, Marie Claire and Town and Country.

“We met Morena back in January at a Women in Television event in L.A. and conversations led to this partnership. With her being nominated for a supporting Emmy on Homeland, the timing is great,” said Caryl Capeci, the brand’s VP marketing.

“We have always admired Morena for her incredible talent, global appeal and natural beauty but found she also embodies so much of the Hearts On Fire DNA — authenticity and passion, coupled with a great sense of self and a timeless, sophisticated approach to style,” Capeci added.

Said Baccarin in a statement: “I had the opportunity to wear Hearts On Fire jewelry on the red carpet and just loved the way their diamonds made me look and feel. Garcia Named Marie Claire’s Creative Director

The 47-year-old Colombian-born fashion journalist and Project Runway judge has been promoted to creative director by the fashion magazine’s new editor-in-chief, Anne Fulenwider.

Garcia, who previously held the position of fashion director, replaces Suzanne Sykes, who left Marie Claire in September to be the creative director of Elle UK.

Garcia, who saw her visibility rise with her role as a judge on Heidi Klum‘s Project Runway, will be joined by the glossy’s new artistic director, Alex Gonzalez, who joins the Marie Claire team from W magazine.

Hometown Héroe: Weslaco’s Wardrobe Warrior Myleen Trevino

It’s not really common to grow up and live your childhood dream. After all, most little ones say they want to be professional athletes, performers or even astronauts.

But Myleen Trevino is one of those rare exceptions… And this Jill of all trades is shooting for the stars in her quest to be fashion’s next big thing.

“I see myself living in California… in La La Land and seeing my work on the big screen,” declares the 29-year-old Mexican American fashionista, a native of Weslaco, Texas. “I pray that I’m continuing my work as a stylist and working on major film and television projects, as well as working with A-list celebrities.”

From the moment she could dress herself Trevino says she was her own stylist. And her parents’ experiences as models would further ignite her passion for fashion.

“I started enjoying fashion at the age of 6,” recalls Trevino, who currently resides in Dallas, where she works as a stylist to stars big and small. “My parents modeled for Barbizon Modeling & Talent Agency, and I would watch home videos of them walking the runway. Watching them all Barbie- and Ken-like in their extravagant-looking clothing was so inspiring to me. I just knew I’d be involved in the fashion industry, in one way or another.”

Three years later, Trevino was learning how to sew from her grandmother, who enjoying creating garments and making quilts for her grandchildren.

“My grandmother taught me how to use the sewing machine,” says Trevino, who would research the creations of designers and fashion houses like Alexander McQueen, Chanel and Max Azria. “So I started playing with fabric and making my own clothes.”

By the time Trevino reached high school, the style-savvy savant was the go-to girl for everything fashion.

“I’d give makeovers and let girls borrow my clothes, and I didn’t even care if I got my clothes back,” remembers Trevino, who appreciated the opportunity to hone her hair, makeup and dressing skills. “I really just wanted to see my style on someone else, and I was proud when they felt confident and happy with their look.”

Trevino, knowing her life’s mission, attended the Art Institute of Houston and the Art Institute of Dallas, where she studied fashion retail management and fashion design.

“Fashion school helped me tremendously and really prepared me for the industry,” acknowledges Trevino. “I learned about fabrics, textures, fit and trends. Fashion is always changing and you have to keep up! You think you know everything because you dress well, but you sit in a classroom and quickly discover there’s so much more to learn.”

But Trevino didn’t just study fashion; she lived and breathed it. Throughout her high school and college years, she worked at several retail stores like Guess, Ralph Lauren, BCBG and Nordstrom.

“Retail helped put things into perspective when it came to the fashion industry,” says Trevino. “It helped me expand my knowledge base, including learning about retail concepts, styling clients and customer service.”

But it would be Trevino’s fateful meeting with her school’s career placement officer that would lead her onto her current path as a stylist.

“She recommended I look into being a dresser for runway fashion shows,” says Trevino. “I ended up doing my first styling job at Houston Fashion Week, where I helped dress the runway models for Fendi.”

In no time, Trevino has managed to make a name for herself in the Lone Star State. She’s worked with La Mode Magazine, Austin Fashion Week and several brands/designers like Sharrari Swimwear and Abi Ferrin. In addition, the fashionista has had the opportunity to style celebrities like Dallas Cowboys ‪tight end Jason Witten, America’s Next Top Model contestant Hannah Jones and Survivor: Guatemala winner Danni Boatwright and singer Solange Knowles, Beyonce’s sister.

“Solange came into BCBG to shop and I had the pleasure of helping her choose outfits and accessories for some upcoming trips and events,” says Trevino. “She had a great sense of style, a sweet personality and was confident in my choices.”

So what does it take to become a master wardrobe stylist? It’s all about the research, according to Trevino.

“You have to really study a person and get a sense of who they are, so that you find the right outfits for them,” says Trevino, who keeps up-to-date on the latest fashion trends by reading magazines like Vogue, Marie Claire and WWD. “I want my clients to feel comfortable, stylish, confident and happy with their look.”

And it appears that Trevino could be increasing her client list in the near future. She recently signed with On Set Management, an agency that will be helping her secure more high-profile projects like her most recent project, wardrobe styling on a catalog and website photo shoot for JCPenney corporate.

“My agent says there’s more work to come,” announces Trevino, who says growing up in a small town made her want to stand out instead of fit in. “Once I get more big name projects on my resume, I definitely will be more confident to take my skills to Los Angeles!”

Garcia to Co-Host Oscars Red Carpet Special…

She’s judged the contestants on Project Runway… And, now Nina Garcia is preparing to critique celebrities on the red carpet at the Oscars.

For the first time ever, the 46-year-old Colombian fashion journalist will co-host Oscars Red Carpet Live, the only Oscar broadcast from the red carpet.

Garcia will join fellow hosts Robin Roberts, Tim Gunn, Louise Roe and Jess Cagle on the 84th Academy Awards pre-show.

Garcia—the fashion director for Marie Claire—and her Project Runway cast mate Gunn will interview celebrities and offer their own red carpet fashion commentary.

Oscars Red Carpet Live will air on ABC at 7:00 pm ET on Sunday, February 26, 2012.
