Eva Noblezada is preparing for a great time on Broadway…
A new musical adaptation of The Great Gatsby, starring the 27-year-old half-Mexican American actress/singer and Broadway star and Jeremy Jordan, will open on Broadway this spring, producers have announced.
The musical begins previews on Friday, March 29, at The Broadway Theatre, with an opening night set for Thursday, April 25.
The announcement was made by lead producer Chunsoo Shin.
Direct from a record-breaking, sold-out world premiere at Paper Mill Playhouse last fall, the show features music and lyrics by Tony Award nominees Nathan Tysen & Jason Howland, a book by Kait Kerrigan, and is staged by award-winning director Marc Bruni and choreographer Dominique Kelley.
The Broadway premiere of The Great Gatsby will feature scenic and projection design by Paul Tate de Poo III, costume design by Linda Cho, lighting design by Cory Pattak, sound design by Brian Ronan, hair & wig design by Charles G. LaPointe & Rachael Geier. Arrangements are by Jason Howland, and Orchestrations are by Jason Howland and Kim Scharnberg. The Music Director is Daniel Edmonds and the music producer is Billy Jay Stein for Strike Audio. Mark Shacketof Foresight Theatrical serves as Executive Producer.
The musical’s world premiere engagement was the highest grossing show in Paper Mill Playhouse history.
The production, which ran October 12–November 12, 2023, also broke the theater’s record for ticket sales in a single day, and sold out the entire run before its very first performance.
This production is not to be confused with a Gatsby stage musical announced in 2021 with Florence Welch and Thomas Bartlett attached.
Noblezada made her Broadway debut as Kim in a revival of Miss Saigon, a performance for which she received a nomination for a 2017 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical, becoming one of the youngest nominees in the category, at age 21.
She also originated the lead role of Eurydice in Hadestownon Broadway, a performance for which she received her second nomination for a 2019 Tony Awardfor Best Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical, as well as winning the 2020 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album. Noblezada also played the title character of Rose in the 2020 film Yellow Rose, starring alongside Lea Salonga, who originated the role of Kim in Miss Saigon.
Apple Original Films and Skydance Animation’s Luck, starring the 25-year-old half-Mexican American actress and singer, will debut on AppleTV+ across the world on Friday, August 5.
Noblezada is among a list of new cast additions that includes Simon Pegg, Flula Borg, Lil Rel Howery, Colin O’Donoghue, John Ratzenberger and Adelynn Spoon.
They’ll star alongside Jane Fonda and Whoopi Goldberg.
Luck centers around the story of Sam Greenfield, the unluckiest person in the world. When she discovers the never-before-seen Land of Luck, Sam must unite with the magical creatures there to turn her luck around.
Broadway star Noblezada (Hadestown, Miss Saigon) will provide the voice for the character of Sam. When she ages out of foster care, Sam discovers the Land of Luck and embarks on a quest that could change her luck forever.
The 42-year-old part-Spanish Australian actress/singer has been cast as the lead role of Broadway’s Moulin Rouge! The Musical, filling the vacancy left when the Tony Award-nominated Karen Olivo resigned in April.
With the casting of Mendoza, the full Moulin Rouge!cast is in place for the resumption of performances on Friday, September 24, at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre.
The musical originally opened on July 25, 2019, but performances were suspended in March 2020 when Broadway went dark due to the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown.
Mendoza joins a principal cast that also includes Aaron Tveit, Danny Burstein, Sahr Ngaujah, Tam Mutu, Ricky Rojas and Robyn Hurder.
The casting is a bit of a homecoming for Mendoza, who portrayed a can-can dancer named China Dollin Baz Luhrmann’s 2001 film Moulin Rouge!
“From the moment Natalie was cast as China Doll in Moulin Rouge! the film, we knew we had discovered a major young talent,” Luhrmann said in a statement. “That young talent has now blossomed into the lead in our Broadway production. I could not be more thrilled that Natalie will be lowered in that glorious swing as Broadway’s Sparkling Diamond.”
Said Mendoza, “Having been involved with the film from its early conception, the role of Satine has always been close to my heart. This rare jewel of an opportunity to play a character like her on Broadway feels like a full circle moment. With this stunning group of bohemian artists and this uniquely conscious creative team I couldn’t be in better care.”
Mendoza, raised in Australia, previously worked with the Broadway musical’s director Alex Timbers when she appeared as Imelda Marcos in Here Lies Loveat London’s Royal National Theatre.
He starred on the BBC One drama series Hotel Babylon andThe Descenthorror film franchise.
On the film side, she’ll next be seen in the buzzy Cannes Film Festival film Annette, directed by Leos Carax and starring Adam Driver and Marion Cotillard.
Mendoza’s other credits include Michael Winterbottom’s futuristic thriller Code 46, Miramax’s The Great Raidand, on television, ABC’s production of South Pacific, ITV’s McDonald & Dodds, CBS’ Blue Bloods and in upcoming episodes of Amazon Prime’s Jack Ryan.
On stage, additional credits include Miss Saigon, Spiderman: Turn Off The DarkandGhost.
The 25-year-old half-Mexican American actress, singer and Broadway star has joined the cast of the Amblin Partners family comedy, Easter Sunday, which is based on the stand-up comedy and life experiences of comedy star Jo Koy and is set around a family gathering to celebrate Easter Sunday.
Noblezada will play Ruth, a friend of one of the characters, Junior.
Jay Chandrasekhar will direct with Ken Cheng penning the script.
The studio is eyeing a production start this spring.

Fontana portrays Michael Dorsey/Dorothy Michaels in the Broadway musical adaptation of the film of the same name, which starred Dustin Hoffman as the lead character.

Prior to appearing on Broadway in Hadestown, Noblezada opened in the lead role of Eurydice in the Royal National Theatre‘s production of the musical on the West End.
Sergio Trujillowill be crossing his fingers on Broadway’s biggest night.
The internationally recognized Colombian choreographer is nominated in the Best Choreography category for his work in Ain’t Too Proud — The Life and Times of the Temptations.
Trujillo previously earned a Tony Award nod in the same category for his work on the Gloria Estefan and Emilio Estefan musical On Your Feet!
Hadestowntopped all nominees with nods in 14 categories including best musical, where it will go up against Ain’t Too Proud — The Life and Times of the Temptations, Beetlejuice, The Promand Tootsie.
This year’s Tony Awards will air at 8:00 p.m. on CBS on June 9 from Radio City Music Hall, with James Cordenserving as host.

The 22-year-old half-Mexican American actress and singer will star in the musical drama Yellow Rose.
Noblezada, who received a Tony Award nomination for her lead role as Kim in the 2014 West End and 2017 Broadway revivals of Miss Saigon, will star opposite Tony Award winner Lea Salonga, who portrayed Kim in the original Broadway cast.
Directed by Diane Paragas, Yellow Rose tells the story of a 17-year old Filipino American girl from Texas who secretly dreams of becoming a country music star. When her mom is arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, she runs away and is forced to embark on a journey to forge her own path or face deportation with her mother back to the Philippines.
This will mark Noblezada feature film debut. In addition to Salonga, she’ll also star alongside country music artist Dale Watson, Liam Booth, Gustavo Gomez(Walking Dead, Animal Kingdom),Libby Villari (Boyhood) and Princess Punzalan.
The film will feature original music composed and performed by the cast and director.
Lin-Manuel Miranda is making his triumphant return to the Tony Awards…
The 37-year-old Puerto Rican composer, playwright, actor and singer will perform on Sunday’s Tonycast, almost one year after his hit Broadway musical Hamiltonswept the awards.
The casts of Bandstand, Come From Away, Dear Evan Hansen, Falsettos, Groundhog Day The Musical, Hello, Dolly!, Miss Saigon, Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812 and War Paint will perform during 71st Annual Tony Awards, which CBS will broadcast live from Radio City Music Hall from 8:00 to 11:00 PM.
There’s still no word on what Miranda will perform.
There will be additional performances by The Radio City Rockettes and Tony Award winners Cynthia Erivo (The Color Purple) and Leslie Odom Jr. (Hamilton).
There will be additional appearances by Scott Bakula, Sara Bareilles, Orlando Bloom, Rachel Bloom, Glenn Close, Stephen Colbert, Brian d’Arcy James, Cynthia Erivo, Tina Fey, Sutton Foster, Josh Gad, Whoopi Goldberg, Jonathan Groff, Mark Hamill, Taraji P. Although Midler will appear as a presenter in one of the acting categories, she is not scheduled to participate in the Hello, Dolly! segment, which will be led by co-star Hyde Pierce. The blockbuster production’s offer to present the title song, or another of Dolly’s show-stoppers, live via remote from the Shubert Theatre was declined by the Tony producers.
The ceremony will be hosted by Tony and Academy Award-winning actor Kevin Spacey.
The Tony Awards are presented by The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing.
