Fifth Harmony Taking Latin America By Storm

Lauren Jauregui, Camila Cabello and Ally Brooke Hernandez are taking South America by storm…

The Latina singers and their fellow Fifth Harmony members have launched a well-crafted tour through South American that is slowly but surely building on the all-girl group’s growing Latin American appeal, taking them to Peru (June 22), Chile (June 24), Argentina (June 25) and, most prominently, Brazil, where they’ll play shows in five cities.

Fifth Harmony

“They’ve been stronger than we projected,” admits MOVE Concerts CEO Phil Rodriguez, who first brought Fifth Harmony to Latin America in 2014, when they played the Z Festival in Sao Paulo and Brasilia.

At that point, the group wasn’t even the festival opener; Austin Mahone was. Less than two years later, Fifth Harmony is almost selling out arenas.

“Sao Palo and Rio blew up immediately,” Rodriguez says. “They sold out in two, three days. In Chile, we originally put out 4,000 tickets [at Arena Movistar] and had to double the capacity.”

The tour was built on the success of those 2014 Brazilian dates, coupled with Sony’s push behind “Work From Home.”

Lima, Santiago and Buenos Aires were all brand-new markets for Fifth Harmony, as will be the Brazilian cities of Curitiba and Porto Alegre. To date, four out of eight Fifth Harmony shows are sell-outs, with most of them taking place at venues with a capacity of 4,500 to 5,500, except for Chile and Sao Paulo (7,500).

And while the quick sales did surprise Rodriguez, overall he expected good results.

“South America has always been a strong adolescent market,” says Rodriguez, who recently presented shows by Justin Bieber. In Argentina, for example, one of the strongest radio stations in the market is Radio Disney.

Beyond mainstream media, Fifth Harmony is an almost permanent Twitter trending topic in every market they touch. By 3 p.m. on Monday (June 27), for example, #5HnoBrasil (Fifth Harmony in Brazil), was the country’s top trending topic, with over half a million tweets.

#Welcometobrazilcamila — in reference to 5H’s Camila Cabello — was also a trending topic with over 10,000 mentions.

“Fifth Harmony is a classic case of an artist investing in the region and having management, agency, label and promoter work together to grow their market,” says Rodriguez.

Black Releases “Friday” Follow-Up, the Aptly Titled Track “Saturday”

Forget Friday…. Rebecca Black has moved on to the weekend…

Nearly three years after releasing the YouTube sensation “Friday” through Ark Music Factory, the 16-year-old half-Mexican American singer has released the follow-up to the tune that garnered millions of views while receiving harsh criticism for being what some considered “the worst song ever made.”

Rebecca Black

Black has now released the successor to her big hit, dropping the official music video for “Saturday.”

The singer depicts the morning after a Friday banger, but she and her friends are merely licking their wounds and preparing to do it all over again Saturday night.

“I don’t want this Saturday to end,” she sings over an electronic-infused beat and instrumentation.

She’s joined by fellow YouTube star Dave Days (with whom Black covered Rihanna‘s “Stay” earlier this year), who croons one of the verses.

Black has matured as a singer, sounding more confident, her voice shedding some of the Auto-tuned production on “Friday.” There’s even a line about “trying to get Friday out of my head.” It shouldn’t be too hard to figure out what that means.

The song itself is a totally passable piece of Radio Disney-esque pop, but this time it’s the music video that deserves the brunt of the attention. The clip features a myriad of references to the “Friday” video, including writing the word ‘fun’ on a sleeping guy’s face, eating from a bowl of cereal that has “gotta have my bowl” written on its side, and a car scene during which she sits in the front seat; our girl’s all grown up and has finally decided which seat she can take.

Though it’s too early to tell whether or not the song will even dwarf the success of its predecessor, “Saturday” has already racked up more than 4 million views on YouTube since its release.
