Amazon Studios Offers First Look at Season Two Footage of Rosa Salazar’s Animated Series “Undone”

Rosa Salazar isn’t (un)done yet…

Amazon has released first-look Season Two footage of Prime Video’s animated series Undone, starring the 36-year-old half-Peruvian actress.

Rosa SalazarThe half-hour animated dramedy series, from creators Kate Purdy and Raphael Bob-Waksberg, will premiere on Friday, April 29.

Undone explores the elastic nature of reality through its central character, Alma (Salazar), a 28-year-old woman living in San Antonio, Texas alongside her mother Camila (Constance Marie) and sister Becca (Angelique Cabral).

After getting into a car accident and nearly dying, Alma finds she has a new relationship to time. She develops this new ability in order to find out the truth about her father Jacob’s (Bob Odenkirk) death.

In Season Two, Alma realizes there are deeper mysteries in her family’s past. However, no one in her family is interested in digging up uncomfortable truths with her—until she finally convinces her sister Becca to help her look. As the sisters search for answers, they unravel a complex network of memories and motivations that have shaped who they are today. They realize by healing this family trauma they can make all of their lives better.

The series is brought to life using rotoscope animation—a first for episodic television. The look of the animation, under the direction of Hisko Hulsing, uses a variety of mediums, including oil painting on canvas to render the backgrounds. Amsterdam-based animation studio Submarine assembled a team of artists and painters from all over Europe to bring all the animation elements to life, with the rotoscoping elements being handled by the team at Austin-based Minnow Mountain.

Salazar serves as a producer.

Undone is produced by Amazon Studios and Tornante Productions.

The 32-year-old Latina actress will star in the adult animated show Undone, which has received a straight-to-series order from Amazon Studios.

Rosa Salazar

Co-created by Bob-Waksberg and BoJack Horseman writer-producer Kate Purdy, Undone is a half-hour animated dramedy that explores the elastic nature of reality through its central character, Alma, voiced by Salazar.

After getting into a near fatal car accident, Alma discovers she has a new relationship with time and uses this ability to find out the truth about her father’s death.

Also cast in the series is Angelique Cabral (Life in Pieces) as Alma’s younger sister.

Undone is in pre-production and expected to premiere in 2019 on Prime Video in more than 200 countries and territories.

Dutch artist Hisko Hulsing will oversee the production design and direct a team of animators working in the Netherlands. The animation will be done with Dutch co-producer and Amsterdam-based studio Submarine, and Austin-based studio Minnow Mountain.

Salazar will next be seen in the title role of the Robert Rodriguez-directed and co-written Alita: Battle Angel, which James Cameron co-wrote and is producing for Twentieth Century Fox. Additionally, she will be seen in upcoming films Bird Box and The Kindergarten Teacher.

Gael Garcia Bernal to Star in the Drama “The Kindergarten Teacher”

Gael Garcia Bernal is headed back to elementary school…

The 38-year-old Mexican actor has joined the cast of Maggie Gyllenhaal’s drama The Kindergarten Teacher, according to Variety.

Gael Garcia Bernal

Maven Pictures is producing the film, based on Nadav Lapid’s Israeli film of the same name.

Sara Colangelo is directing from her own adapted screenplay in which a kindergarten teacher who grows more and more numb each day she remains stuck in her mundane Staten Island life.

When she discovers what may be a prodigious five-year old poet in her class, she becomes obsessed with the child and his talent– risking her career, family, and freedom.

Garcia Bernal joins a list of new cast additions that includes Rosa Salazar, Michael Chernus, Anna Baryshnikov, Daisy Tahan, Samrat Chakrabarti and Ajay Naidu.

Filming is starting on July 12 in New York.

Bernal’s credits include The Motorcycle Diaries and Mozart in the Jungle.

Salazar is the lead in the upcoming Alita: Battle Angel.

The original Israeli film won the Grand Prize and $20,000 at the new talent competition at the 2015 Taipei Film Festival.

Rodriguez to Direct “Escape From New York” Remake

Robert Rodriguez is preparing for his big Escape

The 48-year-old Mexican American filmmaker will direct Escape From New York, the remake of John Carpenter’s iconic 1981 film for 20th Century Fox.

Robert Rodriguez

The studio won a bidding battle for rights to the reboot in early 2015, with Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman’s The Picture Company set to produce.

Neil Cross is penning the script.

The original was released by Avco Embassy, and the rights were owned by Studiocanal. Carpenter will be an executive producer and have a big say in the tone of the project. Fox’s Mike Ireland, who brought in the movie, will oversee for the studio. The hope is to reinvent the property with an eye toward launching a Planet Of The Apes-like franchise.

The deal cements the relationship with Rodriguez and Fox; the director just helmed the studio’s Alita: Battle Angel, the film based on Yukito Kishiro’s manga graphic novels that was written by James Cameron and Laeta Kalogridis. Set in a 26th century dystopian future, the film follows the story of an amnesiac cyborg who, after being rescued from a scrap heap by a doctor, becomes a bounty hunter tracking down criminals. Rosa Salazar and Christoph Waltz star in the film, which has a July 20, 2018 release date mapped out.

The cynical original Escape From New York, hatched by Carpenter after the Watergate scandal, was set in a futuristic Gotham circa 1997. Kurt Russell played Snake Plissken, an eyepatch-sporting tough guy who is conscripted to rescue the President of the United States after Air Force One — en route to a summit that could head off World War III — goes missing after it crashes in New York, which has been relegated to a maximum security prison. Plissken, a former special forces operative convicted of trying to rob the Federal Reserve, is given 22 hours to liberate the president and a tape he carries which holds the key to peace. If he fails, he’s wired to explode.

Rodriguez and Carpenter have collaborated before. Rodriguez’s El Rey Network last fall announced the launch of The People’s Network Showcase, a series of specials featuring short films from emerging indie filmmakers. Carpenter hosted the premiere episode, The People’s Network Showcase: Horror Edition.

Salazar to Star in Robert Rodriguez’s “Battle Angel Alita”

Rosa Salazar is ready for battle…

The 30-year-old Latina actress and Maze Runner star will star in Battle Angel Alita, an adaptation of the popular Manga by Yukito Kishiro being produced by James Cameron and directed by Robert Rodriguez.

Rosa Salazar

Salazar has previously appeared in Insurgent, Maze Runner: The Scorch Trialsand FX’s Man Seeking Woman among other credits.

Salazar to Star Opposite Shailene Woodley and Theo James in the “Divergent” Sequel “Insurgent”

It looks like Rosa Salazar has ties to insurgent groups…

The Canadian-born Latina actress, best known for her role on NBC’s drama series Parenthood, has joined the science fictionaction film Insurgent, based on the novel of the same name by Veronica Roth.

Rosa Salazar

Salazar will portray Lynn in the sequel to the Divergent and the second installment in the Divergent film series.

Summit’s follow-up to the blockbuster hitsees the return of Shailene Woodley and Theo James as citizens in a world where people are divided into factions based on certain values.

Robert Schwentke is directing the sequel — currently shooting in Atlanta — from a script by Brian Duffield and Akiva Goldsman.

The sequel, set for release March 20, 2015, sees most of the cast returning, including Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Kate Winslet, Jai Courtney and Zoe Kravitz. Among new additions are Octavia Spencer, who will play Johanna, Suki Waterhouse, Naomi Watts, Daniel Dae Kim and Jonny Weston.

The story follows Tris (Woodley) and Four (James), now fugitives on the run, who must find out what Tris’ family sacrificed their lives to protect, and why the Erudite leaders will do anything to stop them.

Lynn is one of the Dauntless-born initiates, and, in Veronica Roth‘s books, she’s described as beautiful and sporting a shaved head. She’s good friends with Uriah and Marlene (Waterhouse) in the books.

The first film based on Roth’s popular YA series, Divergent, opened in March, going on to earn $267 million worldwide.

In addition to Parenthood, Salazar also appeared on the first season of American Horror Story.

Her film credits include voicing a character in Epic and appearing in the 2014 film Jamesy Boy. She’ll next be seen in the upcoming films Search Party, Night Owls, Submerged and May the Best Man Win.
