America Ferrera to Serve as Presenter at This Year’s Oscars

Win or lose, America Ferrera will be taking the Oscars stage…

The 39-year-old Honduran American actress, who earned her first-ever Academy Awards nod this year for her performance in Barbie, will serve as a presenter at Sunday’s Oscars.

She’s part of a roster of new presenters that includes Emily Blunt, Cynthia Erivo, Sally Field, Ryan Gosling, Ariana Grande, Ben Kingsley, Melissa McCarthy, Issa Rae, Tim Robbins, Steven Spielberg, Mary Steenburgen, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlize Theron, Christoph Waltz and Forest Whitaker.

They join previous announced presenters Bad Bunny, Chris Hemsworth, Dwayne Johnson, Michael Keaton, Regina King, Jennifer Lawrence, Kate McKinnon, Rita Moreno, John Mulaney, Catherine O’Hara, Octavia Spencer and Ramy Youssef, Mahershala Ali, Nicolas Cage, Jamie Lee Curtis, Brendan Fraser, Jessica Lange, Matthew McConaughey, Lupita Nyong’o, Al Pacino, Michelle Pfeiffer, Ke Huy Quan, Sam Rockwell, Michelle Yeoh and Zendaya.

The Oscars will be broadcast live on March 10 ceremony from the Dolby Theater in Hollywood.

Jimmy Kimmel is returning to host the ceremony for a fourth time.

ABC, which has aired the Oscars since 1976, is televising the show live starting at 7:00 pm ET/4:00 pm PT — an hour earlier that usual. The network, which has begun to use the Oscars as a lead-out to showcase its top programming, will follow its coverage of the live ceremony with an original episode of Abbott Elementary.

ABC’s time tweak also means that its annual pre-show will now run for 30 minutes — instead of the usual 90 — beginning at 6:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. PT. As per usual, the main Oscar telecast will be rebroadcast in the Pacific Time zone in primetime after the live presentation.

Raj Kapoor will serve as showrunner and executive producer of the 96th Oscars, with Molly McNearney and Katy Mullan executive producers. Hamish Hamilton is directing.

Jacob Elordi to Star in Guillermo del Toro’s Netflix Film “Frankenstein”

The 26-year-old half-Spanish Australian actor will form part of the all-star ensemble cast of Oscar-winning filmmaker’s Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein at Netflix.

Jacob Elordi,Elordi will play the iconic monster, replacing Andrew Garfield, who fell out due to strike postponements that led to scheduling conflicts.

The Saltburn actor joins a cast that includes Christoph Waltz, Felix Kammerer, Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley and Christian Convery.

Oscar Isaac, who will play Victor Frankenstein, and Mia Goth are set to star in the pic.

del Toro is writing, directing and producing alongside J. Miles Dale, who served as a producer on del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities for Netflix.

The classic Mary Shelley novel follows Victor Frankenstein, a brilliant but egotistical scientist who brings a creature to life in a monstrous experiment that ultimately leads to the undoing of both the creator and his tragic creation.

del Toro has been developing the Frankenstein project for some time and long has wanted to make a movie centered on the iconic story. It is unknown whether his version would be a period pic or set in modern times.

Elordi has had a busy stretch with multiple awards-season films bowing including the Amazon MGM Studios film Saltburn, in which he starred opposite Barry Keoghan. He also played Elvis Presley in A24’s Priscilla directed by Sofia Coppola.

Aimee Carrero to Star in the Buddy Action-Comedy “Code 3”

The 34-year-old Dominican actress will star in the buddy action-comedy Code 3 opposite Rainn Wilson and Lil Rel Howery.

She’ll portray Jessica, a newbie paramedic who is eager to learn is well-trained, and is superb under pressure. In the 24-hour shift where she’s training to replace Randy (Wilson), she’s in for an incredible day of surprises and realizations.

The film, by director Christopher Leone, follows a day in the life of two overworked, underpaid, and nearly burnt-out paramedics. One EMT is so burnt-out by the job that he’s forcing himself to resign, though he first must embark on one last 24-hour shift to train his replacement. Everything that could happen on the job, from the mundane to the extreme, then happens on this final, exhilarating day.

The script for Code 3 hails from Leone and former paramedic Patrick Pianezza. Angela Cardon will oversee the project for Wayfarer Studios and will serve as its sole financier.

Producers are Justin Baldoni and Andrew Calof for Wayfarer, Lawrence Mattis of Circle of Confusion, Matt Smith of Electro Corduroy Entertainment, and Paul “Pizza” Pianezza of Realdream.

Carrero’s breakout role was in Season 2 of FX’s The Americans playing the character of Lucia.

She can currently be seen in the Fox Searchlight film The Menu starring Ralph Fiennes and Anya Taylor-Joy, streaming now via HBO Max.

Additionally, she co-starred in the Apple TV+ holiday film Spirited opposite Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell.

Up next, she’ll appear as a series regular in Amazon’s The Consultant opposite Christoph Waltz in the role of Patti.

 

Netflix Releases Official Trailer for “Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio”

Here’s your first look at Guillermo del Toro’s take on the classic Pinocchio tale.

Netflix has released the official trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio from the 58-year-old Mexican Oscar-winning filmmaker ahead of its December 9 premiere on the streaming service after its run in select theaters.

The stop-motion animation, which he co-directed with Mark Gustafson, lends itself to del Toro’s eye for detail, from its storyline tweaks, creatures with hints of Pan’s Labyrinth and carnival scenes that would have felt at home in Nightmare Alley.

It all serves the plot, which finds lonely Geppetto, a broken man after the death of his son, carving a new boy out of wood who is suddenly brought to life. David Bradley voices Geppetto, and Gregory Mann is Pinocchio. Ewan McGregor handled narrator duties as the voice of Jiminy Cricket.

The voice cast also includes Tilda Swinton, Christoph Waltz, Finn Wolfhard, Cate Blanchett, John Turturro, Ron Perlman, Tim Blake Nelson and Burn Gorman.

Patrick McHale penned the screenplay for the film.

Pinocchio has been on the festival circuit since world premiering last month at the BFI London Film.

The 57-year-old Mexican Oscar-winning filmmaker and author’s Pinocchio will have its world premiere at the BFI London Film Festival.

The film will debut in the Royal Festival Hall at the Southbank Centre during the festival, which takes place October 5-15, 2022.

The stop-motion film was directed by del Toro and Mark Gustafson and is from a screenplay by the Mexican filmmaker and Patrick McHale.

The film’s voice cast includes Ewan McGregor as Cricket, David Bradley as Geppetto and Gregory Mann as Pinocchio. Finn Wolfhard, Cate Blanchett, John Turturro, Ron Perlman, Tim Blake Nelson, Burn Gorman and Christoph Waltz and Tilda Swinton also star.

The film’s music will be provided by the Oscar-winning composer Alexandre Desplat, who has also written the score. Netflix is set to release the film theatrically in November before making it available for streaming in December.

Principal photography on the film began in 2019 at ShadowMachine’s studio in Portland, OR, and production remained uninterrupted during the pandemic.

del Toro co-wrote the script with Patrick McHale. And the film’s music will be provided by Oscar-winning composer Alexandre Desplat, who has also written the score.

The animation remake is the first of two forthcoming collaborations between del Toro and Netflix.

The second, titled Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities, is an anthology horror series featuring eight new tales — including two original works by del Toro — brought to life by a team of writers and directors personally chosen by the Nightmare Alley filmmaker. Additional episode directors will include Ana Lily Amirpour, Catherine Hardwicke, Guillermo Navarro, David Prior, and Keith Thomas.

David Castañeda to Star in Peacock’s Drama Series “Poker Face”

The 32-year-old Mexican American actor has joined the cast of Natasha Lyonne and Rian Johnson series Poker Face at Peacock.

Lyonne will lead the drama series, with Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Stephanie Hsu also set to appear along with Castañeda.

Plot and character details for the series are being kept largely under wraps, though sources say the series will follow a procedural format and see Lyonne’s character working to solve different murders in each episode.

Poker Face received a 10-episode order at Peacock in March 2021. Johnson created the series and executive produces via T-Street Productions. MRC Television will produce.

Castañeda is best known for his role in the hit Netflix series The Umbrella Academy, on which he plays Diego. The third season of the series will premiere on June 22.

His other television credits include Blindspot and Southland.

He’ll next star opposite Christoph Waltz in Season 2 of the Roku series Most Dangerous Game.

He has also appeared in films like Sicario: Day of the Soldado, The Tax Collector, End of Watch and The Guilty at Netflix.

Aimee Carrero to Star in Amazon Prime Video’s Dark Comedy Series “The Consultant”

The 33-year-old Puerto Rican-Dominican actress has joined the cast of the Amazon Prime Video dark comedy The Consultant as a series regular opposite Christoph Waltz and Nat Wolff.

Aimee CarreroInspired by Bentley Little’s 2015 novel, The Consultant is a darkly comedic workplace thriller that explores the sinister relationship between boss and employee, asking how far we will go to get ahead, and to survive.

Carrero will play Patti, Craig’s (Wolff) fiancée.

Tony Basgallop serves as the showrunner and executive produces alongside Matt Shakman, Christoph Waltz, Steve Stark and Andrew Mittman. Shakman will also direct the pilot and Kai Dolbashian will serve as co-producer.

The Consultant hails from MGM Television and Amazon Studios.

Carrero is playing Honey in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? at the Geffen from April 19- May 22 opposite Calista Flockhart and Zachary Quinto.

She was last seen in an arc on the Netflix limited series Maid. Other credits include The Americans and the title voices in Elena of Avalor (Disney Jr.) and She-Ra (Netflix).

She will next be seen in The Menu with Anya Taylor-Joy for Fox Searchlight and Spirited for Apple with Will Ferrell.

Directed by del Toro alongside Mark Gustafson, the film will chart the mischievous and disobedient adventures of Pinocchio in his pursuit of a place in the world.

The voice cast includes Ewan McGregor, David Bradley, Tilda Swinton, Christoph Waltz, Finn Wolfhard, Cate Blanchett, John Turturro, Ron Perlman, Tim Blake Nelson, Burn Gorman and newcomer Gregory Mann as Pinocchio.

David Castañeda to Star on Season Two of Roku’s “Most Dangerous Game”

The 31-year-old Mexican-American actor will star in the second season of Roku’s Most Dangerous Game.

Set in New York, the series will be headlined by newly added lead Castañeda and Christoph Waltz, reprising the role of Miles Sellers. Creator Nick Santora returns as writer and executive producer.

Most Dangerous Game is among the first Quibi series to get a renewal by Roku, which acquired the library of the short-lived streaming service earlier this year.

Castañeda stars as Victor Suero, a down on his luck fighter who springs into action to protect his sister after learning she’s in trouble. He’ll make a fortune if he survives. Out of love for his sister— he’s determined to live.

Miles is the CEO of The Tiro Fund— a front for a centuries-old game in which hunters pay exorbitant fees for the privilege of hunting the most cunning and dangerous prey there is.

“When I read the script I couldn’t sleep for a few days. Thinking of a man given the opportunity of making money to provide for his sister— it reminded me of my family, their struggle and ingenuity in necessity,” Castañeda said in a statement. “This story will connect with them and hopefully many more. Also, Christoph Waltz is the man. I can’t wait to jump on this opportunity with Roku and bring the streamers along for a thrilling ride.”

Season 1 of the action-thriller, based on a classic short story by Richard Connell, centers on Dodge (Liam Hemsworth), a Detroit everyman up to his eyeballs in debt, who is looking to secure the financial future of his wife and unborn child before he succumbs to a terminal illness. After meeting a mysterious businessman named Miles, Dodge finds the opportunity to just that—by agreeing to participate in a 24-hour game, in which he’ll be hunted for sport.

The first season earned two Emmy nominations, for Short Form Comedy or Drama Series and Actor in a Short Form Comedy or Drama Series (Waltz).

Castañeda is known for his portrayal of Diego Hargreeves in Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy. Up next, he’ll be seen in Antoine Fuqua’s The Guilty also for Netflix, where he’ll collaborate with Jake Gyllenhaal and Ethan Hawke.
