Showtime Expands Joel Martinez/The Kid Mero’s “Desus & Mero” Talk Show to Two Nights a Week

Showtime is expanding Desus & Mero, its first late-night talk show with the 35-year-old Dominican-American comedian/television personality, to two nights a week for a special summer run.

Beginning Monday May 6, Desus & Mero will air two nights a week, on Monday and Thursday nights at 11:00 pm, until its August hiatus beginning Monday, August 5.

The show features longtime acquaintances Desus Nice (Daniel Baker) and The Kid Mero (Martinez) chatting with guests at the intersection of pop culture, sports, music, politics and more, as well as giving their take on the day’s hot topics in front of a small live studio audience from New York City. 

Upcoming guests include Lin-Manuel Miranda, Charlize Theron, Amy Poehler, Gabrielle Union, Seth Rogen, Spike Lee, Bill Hader, Regina Hall, among others.

Desus and Mero reconnected online in the early days of Twitter, where they unleashed their potent personalities and found themselves kindred spirits. That led to stints on Complexand MTV, the Bodega Boys podcast, and a daily late-night show on Viceland. The duo continue to host their Bodega Boys podcast.

Desus & Mero is produced for Showtime by JAX Media. Desus Nice, The Kid Mero, Lilly Burns, Tony Hernandezand Victor Lopezexecutive produce.

CBS All Access Orders Second Season of Zabryna Guevara’s “The Twilight Zone”

CBS All Access has ordered a second season The Twilight Zone, itsanthology series starring the 47-year-old Afro-Latina American actress.

The CBS All Access series is a modern reimagining of Rod Serling’s original, which aired from 1959-64 on CBS and became a worldwide phenomenon, using socially conscious storytelling to explore the human condition and culture of the times.

“Jordan Peele and Simon Kinberg’s reimagining of The Twilight Zone is off to an amazing start on CBS All Access, driving the most viewers on its premiere day for an original series to date,” said Julie McNamara, EVP Original Content at CBS All Access. “Jordan, Simon, the creative team and cast have done a phenomenal job translating the series’ legacy of socially conscious storytelling for modern-day audiences. They are master storytellers, and we look forward to bringing fans further into The Twilight Zone with a second season.”

CBS announced in 2017 that it would revive The Twilight Zone for streaming service CBS All Access with Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions and Simon Kinberg’s Genre Films.

The anthology series features Peele as host and narrator with cast members including Guevara, Ike Barinholtz, Zazie Beetz, John Cho, Lucinda Dryzek, Taissa Farmiga, James Frain, Betty Gabriel, Ginnifer Goodwin, Percy Hynes-White, Greg Kinnear, Luke Kirby, Sanaa Lathan, Kumail Nanjiani, Chris O’Dowd, Seth Rogen, Adam Scott, Rhea Seehorn, Alison Tolman,Jacob Tremblay, Jefferson White, Jonathan Whitesell, Jessica Williams, DeWanda Wise and Steven Yeun.

The first season of The Twilight Zone is airing on-demand at CBS All Access. The series’ first five episodes are available with new episodes dropping weekly on Thursdays.

The Twilight Zone is produced by CBS Television Studiosin association with Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions and Kinberg’s Genre Films. Peele and Kinberg serve as executive producers.

Guevara’s previous television credits include appearances in New Amsterdam, The Handmaid’s Tale, Gothamand Chicago Med.

Karol G Reveals Track List for New Album “Ocean”

The 28-year-old Colombian reggaeton singer and songwriter, who won the Best New Artistaward at last year’s Latin Grammys, is sharing the track list for her sophomore album Ocean, which she’ll release on Friday, May 3.

Karol G took to social media to reveal the track list for the album, which will be home to 16 new songs including “Culpables” with Anuel AA, “Mi Cama (Remix)” with J Balvin and Nicky Jam, “Creeme” with Maluma, and her recent single “Punto G.”

Karol G’s new project represents a personal and professional milestone. 

“I worked with different producers from all genres, trying to bridge different styles of music, from urban to electronica to ballads,” she previously said in an interview with Ocean Drive magazine. “I put a lot of emphasis on the composition of the songs and the creative production. We finished it in Turks and Caicos because I wanted to capture the essence of the title. Imagine creating music in the middle of the sea. Spectacular!”

According to Karol G, “a percentage of the profits will go toward cleaning the ocean. It is our job to make a difference and leave the world a better place.”

Netflix Renews Jason Genao’s “On My Block” for a Third Season

Netflix has ordered a third season of high school comedy series On My Block, starring the 22-year-old Dominican American actor.

The announcement, which the show shared via Twitter, comes one month after the show’s Season 2 premiere.

Production on Season 3 of the series, which hails from Awkward creator Lauren Iungerich, Eddie Gonzalezand Jeremy Haft, will begin this year in Los Angeles.

Co-created and executive produced by Iungerich, Gonzalez & Haft, On My Block is a coming-of-age comedy about bright and street-savvy friends navigating their way through the triumph, pain and the newness of high school in LA’s South Central neighborhood.

Genao, who previously starred on Netflix’s The Get Down, Sierra Capri, Brett Gray, Diego Tinoco and Jessica Marie Garcia will reprise their roles in Season 3.

The 22-year-old Mexican American rapper/singer joins voices with Digital Farm Animals on the new single “Next To You.”

Becky G appears in the music video for the song, which features additional production from Jamaica’s Rvssian, who previously worked with Cardi B, J Balvin and more.

“Next To You,” out now via Arista Records, is a dancehall-tinged ballad that puts a soft-spoken twist on the bright lights of dance-pop. The understated hook is the most interesting part, representing the lyrics’ regretful and introspective mood.

London’s Digital Farm Animals makes his mark on the biligual scene with Becky G’s fast-rap stream in the third verse. In 2017, he hit the Billboard Hot 100with louis tomlinson and Bebe Rexhaon “Back To You.” 

Becky G has recently collaborated with Anitta, Maluma and Kane Brown.

The 33-year-old Colombian reggaeton singer has revealed that he’s working on a collaboration with  Chris Brown and Tyga — and that it’s coming any day.

J Balvin, who earned his first No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 as a featured artist on Cardi B’s “I Like It,” most recently collaborated with Rosalia on “Con Altura.”

The 25-year-old Spanish singer has announced the release of “Me Traiconaste,” her song for the new Game of Thrones concept album.

Rosalia’s new single takes a running theme of the show, betrayal, into flamenco territory, with Peruvian artist A. Chal featured on the bilingual collaboration.

The darkly intriguing tone of the track, accompanied by flamenco hand claps, evokes the locations around the Andalusian city Sevilla that will reportedly play a role in Season 8, including the amphitheater in the ruins of the Roman city Italica.  

Rosalía announced the release of the song from the For the Throne (Music Inspired by the HBO Series Game of Thrones) album on social media with a photo of herself in GOT-style garb.

Sebastián Yatra Earns Second Chart-Topper on Billboard Latin Pop Albums Chart

The 24-year-old Colombian singer-songwriter’s sophomore album Fantasia debuts atop the Billboard Latin Pop Albums chart dated April 27, following his debut set Mantra to the top of the chart.

His sophomore set Fantasia launches at No. 1 with 5,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending April 18, according to Nielsen Music. Of that sum, 3,000 were in album sales. Both figures mark the best weeks of his career, in terms of album sales and equivalent album units.

The LP concurrently debuts at No. 5 on the Top Latin Albums chart, his second entry, following the No. 3 debut and peak of Mantra.

Yatra scored his first Latin Pop Albums leader less than a year ago, when his debut set Mantra opened at No. 1 on June 2. The album also opened at No. 3 on Top Latin Albums and even reached the all-encompassing Billboard 200, at No. 192.

Yatra’s Fantasia is just the third album to be No. 1 on Latin Pop Albums in 2019 so far. Selena’s Ones ruled for the first six weeks of the year (of the set’s total 24 weeks at No. 1), followed by Luis Fonsi’s Vida for 10 weeks.

The latest trailer for Men In Black: International, Sony’s long-in-the-works reboot starring the 35-year-old  Afro-Panamanian American actress.

Thompson and Chris Hemsworth kick ass in London and all over the world in their black suits, replacing Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith.

Sony has set a June 14, 2019 release date for Columbia Pictures’ comedic sci-fi actioner, which F. Gary Gray has directed from a screenplay by Art Marcumand Matt Holloway. 

Whereas the original films were centered in New York City, the new take sees Agent M (Thompson) join the covert MIB organization dedicated to policing the alien population hiding in plain sight on Earth. She is partnered with Agent H (Hemsworth) in the London bureau to stop a potential global catastrophe. 

Emma Thompson and Liam Neeson also star.

Gael Garcia Bernal to Star in Jonas Cuaron’s Showtime Thriller Drama Pilot “Hombre”

The 40-year-old Mexican actor/producer has been cast as the lead in Showtime’s thriller drama pilot Hombre, which hails from BAFTA nominee Jonas Cuarón (Gravity).

Garcia Bernal, who won a Golden Globe for his lead role in Mozart in the Jungle, will star alongside Marisé Alvarez (The Vessel), Greg Grunberg (A Star Is Born), Pepi Sonuga (Famous In Love), Adriana Santos (Taken) and newcomer Noah Reyes in the pilot, which is set to begin production at the end of April in Los Angeles.

Created by Cuarón, who also will direct the pilot, Hombre centers on a Mexican-American family man named Marcos Osuna (Bernal) who is living undocumented in the United States. When his wife Leticia is detained by ICE, Marcos, both desperate and resourceful, goes to unprecedented lengths to get her back. The project is an emotional thriller about a man enmeshed in a dangerous double life, contending with powerful forces set on thwarting his unwavering desire to unite his family.

Hombre is a co-production between Showtime and Makeready.

Alvarez will play Marcos’ smart and selfless wife Leticia, whose detention by ICE proves to be the ultimate test on her marriage and close-knit family.

Sonuga will play Adanna, a kind-hearted undocumented immigrant from Nigeria who works with Marcos at a motel. Grunberg will play Norm, a friendly and well-intended ICE trainee. 

Santos will play Leticia’s sister Teresa. Reyes will play Marcos’ and Leticia’s pre-adolescent son Anthony.

Alvarez recently appeared in the feature films The Vessel and Imprisoned, and the Spanish mini-series En el corredor de la muerte. She had her first notable role in the Puerto Rican feature Maldeamores, and starred in Steve Soderbergh’s Che: Part One and Che: Part Two.

Santos can be seen in the upcoming film Night Swim directed by Victoria Riverapremiering at Tribeca. Her television credits include Taken, Sweetbitter and Daredevil.

Reyes is a newcomer from Ontario, California. Hombre marks his first television series regular role.
