Bruno Mars to Open Sydney’s Newly Renovated Allianz Stadium

Bruno Mars is heading Down Under for a historic moment…

The 36-year-old part-Puerto Rican Grammy-winning singer/songwriter will officially open the new Allianz Stadium in Sydney, Australia.

Bruno Mars, Ricky Regal, LacosteMars is booked to perform on Friday, October 14 and the following evening to raise the curtain at the rebuilt venue.

Veteran concert promoter Paul Dainty, CEO of TEG Dainty, part of the TEG group, is producing the shows.

“It’s incredibly exciting to welcome audiences back to Allianz Stadium in the heart of Sydney and who better to lead the opening celebrations than the legendary, record-breaking artist Bruno Mars,” he says in a statement. “These opening shows will go down in history as not to be missed.”

Mars’ most recent studio album, 24K Magic, debuted at No. 3 on the ARIA Albums Chart following its release in November 2016, for his third Top 3 in Australia after Doo-Wops & Hooligans (No. 2 in January 2011) and Unorthodox Jukebox (No. 1 in January 2013). His single releases in Australia have collected 56-times platinum status, streams are north of 773 million, and he has completed three sold out tours.

Mars heads Down Under in Grammy-winning form. Mars’ collaborative smash with Anderson .Paak, “Leave the Door Open,” won in four categories at the 64th Grammy Awards in April, including record of the year and song of the year.

The duo’s debut album, An Evening with Silk Sonic, is expected to be a contender in multiple categories when the nominations for the 65th Grammy Awards are announced on November 15.

Situated next to the Sydney Cricket Ground, Allianz is expected to open its doors next month, after a renovation which reportedly carried a price tag upwards of A$800 million ($555 million). The result should be a “state-of-the-art multi-purpose venue, built for the future of sport and entertainment in Australia,” say the SCG trust.

The 42,500 capacity venue, traditionally known as Sydney Football Stadium (and previously Aussie Stadium) will host a free community open day and night on Aug. 28, headlined by Australian artists Guy Sebastian and Baker Boy. The grand opening is set for Sept. 2.

General public tickets for Mars’ shows go on sale from Thursday Aug. 11 via tegdainty.com, while Telstra Plus pre-sales start on Monday, August 8 at Telstra.com/tickets.

Robert Trujillo & His Metallica Band Mates Earn Third No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Rock Albums Chart as “S&M2” Debuts at No. 1

Robert Trujillo’s hit albums keep on coming…

The 55-year-old half-Mexican American bassist and his Metallica band mates have scored their third No. 1 on Billboard‘s Top Rock Albums chart, as S&M2 debuts at the top of the ranking list dated September 12.

Recorded live on September 6 and 8, 2019, with the San Francisco Symphony, the set arrives with 56,000 equivalent album units earned in the tracking week ending September 3, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data. Of that sum, 53,000 units are via album sales.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame-enshrined band now boasts three Top Rock Albums No. 1s since the chart began in 2006. Death Magnetic ruled for five weeks in 2008 and Hardwired… to Self-Destruct reigned for six in 2016-17.

The new set also debuts atop the Hard Rock Albums chart, where it’s Metallica’s third leader and the San Francisco Symphony‘s first. On Classical Albums, the LP likewise launches at No. 1, as Metallica earns its first leader; the orchestra also leads for the first time, as it ups its count to 11 top 10s.

On the all-genre Billboard 200, S&M2 bows at No. 4, marking Metallica’s 11th top 10. S&M2‘s predecessor, S&M, debuted and peaked at No. 2 in November 1999.

Metallica now becomes the first group, and the third act overall, with at least one new Billboard 200 top 10 in each of the last five decades. The band banked one top 10 in the ’80s (…And Justice for All, No. 6 in 1988); five in the ’90s (its No. 1 self-titled set in 1991; Load, No. 1 in 1996; Reload, No. 1 in 1997; Garage Inc., No. 2 in 1998; and S&M, No. 2 in 1999); two in the ’00s (St. Anger, No. 1 in 2003; and Death Magnetic, No. 1 in 2008); two in the ’10s (Metallica: Through the Never, No. 9 in 2013; and Hardwired… To Self-Destruct, No. 1 in 2016); and now one in the ’20s, with S&M2.

S&M2 debuted at No. 1 on Australia’s ARIA Albums Chart, Metallica’s seventh No. 1 album Down Under.

More than 20 years after Metallica and the San Francisco Symphony led the ARIA Albums Chart with the first installment, S&M, the unlikely partnership yields another leader.

The live compilation, recorded last September at San Francisco’s Chase Center, gives Metallica their seventh No. 1 album in Australia following Metallica (August 1991), Load (June 1996), S&M (November 1999), St. Anger (June 2003), Death Magnetic (September 2008), Hardwired…To Self-Destruct (2016).

Carey to Visit Australia for a Rare Coast-to-Coast Tour

Mariah Carey is heading to the land Down Under…

The 45-year-old half-Venezuelan American singer is planning to visit Australia for a rare coast-to-coast tour.

Carey’s Elusive Chanteuse Show this November is scheduled to make seven stops Down Under, where she’ll play arenas and exclusive winery dates.

Mariah’s Australian trek starts on November 2 at Sandalford Estate in Perth, then moves on to Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Rochford Wines in the Yarra Valley and wraps-up Nov. 16 at Sirromet Wines on Mt Cotton, south east of Brisbane.

It’ll be Mariah’s first national Australian run since her Butterfly world tour stopped in the country in 1998, though she did play three shows on the east coast in January 2013.

General admission is priced at Australian $109.90 ($98.60) plus booking fee, and tickets at the top-end (platinum) cost Australian $259.90 ($233) plus booking fee. Tickets for all shows go on sale Sept. 26, and pre-sales open September 24 at the official websites for Live Nation and A Day On The Green.

Mariah’s latest album Me. I Am Mariah…The Elusive Chanteuse, her 14th studio album, debuted at No. 5 on the ARIA Albums Chart in May. It was her 13th top ten appearance on the Australian chart, and her first since Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel back in October 2009.

In the U.S., The Elusive Chanteuse opened at No. 3 with 58,000 sales. The album, which features production from Rodney Jerkins, Jermaine Dupri, Hit-Boy and Mike Will Made It and guest appearances from Nas, Wale and Miguel, was tentatively earmarked for a release in March 2013. The set was then pushed to July 23, then to May 6, 2014 and finally May 27.
